We are now just days away from the first teams reporting for training camp.  The Vikings report July 25th and actually start practicing on the 26th.  Now is the time to wonder just how good can your favorite team can be.  Up in Mankato, it promises to be a playoff or bust atmosphere.  Last season, Adrian Peterson dragged the Vikings into the NFL postseason, but if the Vikes want to return, they will need contributions from several other guys, including some new additions.

The biggest off=season news was the loss off Percy Harvin.  In what has become a trend in recent years, the former Viking is now a Seattle Seahawk.  This time however, Rick Spielman actually brought a new player in that is as good or better than the one the team lost.  Greg Jennings spent plenty of Sundays with the Green Bay Packers tormenting teams like the Vikings, Lions, and Bears.  But now, the WR is in Minny as a weapon for QB Christian Ponder, who is definitely the player in purple under the most scrutiny.

Minnesota made some nice acquisitions in the draft, but again it really all comes down to Ponder.  The Vikings have the best running back in football, a Pro-Bowl tight end, and an all-star wide receiver on offense.  The defense is very good, but aging a little.  Christian Ponder is entering his third season and this is a make or break year for him.  Minnesota picked up Matt Cassel as a back-up, but if Ponder struggles early on, Cassel could easily wind up with the starting job.

The time is right now for this team.  The stadium deal is done, the ownership is solid, and the Vikings are coming off a surprising playoff appearance in 2012.  Training camp is ten days away.  The biggest question Minny has to deal with is their quarterback.  Can Christian Ponder succeed in the NFL?
