Not sure of Buck’s choice on when to bunt late in the game

The fifth batter in the order in this game for the Orioles J.J. Hardy bunted down the first base line to move Chris Davis onto second with one out in the thirteenth, leaving two chances to drive in the go ahead run. However in the tenth Nate McLouth who was batting in the sixth spot due to all the changes, and is usually a lead-off hitter, was allowed to hit with only one out into a double play with the bases loaded. If the O’s bullpen gets out the inning just like they did they win that game. How is it that you allow your number five batter to bunt but not your number six batter who has a chance to drive in the go ahead run?
In this game the O’s, who have never been spectacular in interleague play in the past (135-164 all time) lost to the Arizona Diamondbacks in 14 innings 5-4, the D’backs swept the O’s and the O’s fall to 9-8 this season in interleague play. Closer Jim Johnson blew his third consecutive save in the ninth and his second in this series. A total of fifteen pitchers were used in this game (8-Baltimore, 9 if you count Scott Feldman who pinch hitted in the fourteenth & 7-Arizona).
Starting pitchers Chris Tillman and Patrick Corbin who were both first time All-Stars this season and second round draft picks (Tillman ’06 & Corbin ’09) both were coming off no decisions in their previous starts that were on the same date, and they both received the same thing tonight. Tillman pitched six innings gave up five hits, two runs, three walks and one strikeout and Corbin pitched seven innings gave up nine hits, four runs, one walk and seven strikeouts. This game was only the second time in Orioles history when both starters had a .800 win percentage on August 14th. Heath Bell earned the win for the D’Backs and Bud Norris, who is usually a starter, earned the loss for the O’s giving up the game winning single to Aaron Hill who went 2 for 6 with two RBI’s.
Thanks to Jim Johnson’s blown save in the ninth Chris Davis extended his hit streak to eight games tonight with a pair of singles but also struckout three times, Baltimore batters struckout a total of 15 times in this game. All four of the O’s runs came in the second so they were shutout for the final twelve innings. Backup catcher Taylor Teagarden who started this game had a three hit ballgame for the first time since July 1, 2011 back when he was playing for the Rangers and they were facing the Marlins.
The O’s-D’Backs series all time is now 12-3 in favor of Arizona, and Baltimore is now 2-7 whenever playing in Arizona. After the off day tomorrow the O’s return home to open up a weekend series with the Colorado Rockies. Probable starters for the first game Friday at 7:05 are Juan Nicasio vs. Wei-Yin Chen.
