Round one for Mack Brown and his coaching staff. The expectations
for the Longhorns in 2013 is a Big 12 Championship title and NCAA Championship. If that doesn’t happen Mack most likely is gone. I have seen were Texas is ranked as high as fourth in National polls for 2013. I personally think Texas is the fourth best team in the Big12. I think this might finally be the year for Okie State and behind them the Sooners followed by Horned Frogs.
Mack, feels the Longhorn’s are back. They have plenty of experince returning. They are a much older team with a new offensive style. Gonna play faster goal to increase the number of plays per game, one of the lowest stats in the confernce. See that’s an area I blame on the coaching staff. more plays
should have always been a emphasis. With an inexperience QB in Ash and three great backs probably on paper the best in the Nation. Texas should been trying to control games by running the clock with running plays. Should recruited proper personal upfront to accomplish that fate. Last, year O line didin’t do a good job dominating in the trenches.
I like Ash at quarterback, I do question his leadership skills. He seems to have a tendcy to get rattled in big games. Lacks that killer trait which VY and Colt had back in the day. And I don’t blame him totally for that I also blame the coaching staff. Not only does the offensive plan to play faster no huddle offensive. Applewhite is the play caller. I never like the system with two
player callers in the booth just doesn’t work. Not only are the Longhorns returning great backs they also have two good receivers in Shipley and Davis. They really need to work on stretching the field.
If this team is going to be better it has to start on Defense. Last year Defense
rank in the lower half of college football. Their schmatics at times were poor.
Talent was not a question but executions was definelty a problem. I hope Diaz
has worked out the problems. I look for less stunts and twist. I still think they will biltz a great deal I must say had a lot of younger players in key area and they played like it. The linebackers should be improved with the return of Hicks and a years experience for last years crew. The defensive line should be improved with the return of Jeffcoat. The key on the D line will be the play of
the tackles. I look for sophmore Malcom Brown to step up this year. The end opposite Jeffcoat will be Reed and I like his play. The secondary is very talents with Diggs.
The main problem for the Defenses was tackling which I find that hard to believe. From day one, we are taught as youth players is to tackle properly so why when these talented players get to UT they have problems in this area. Again, I blame it on the coaching staff. In, Texas four losses gave up over forty points and over four hundered yards, hard to win with them stats.
I would hope special teams improve, especially on the return side. This team has so much speed in specailty positions I wouuld like to see more kick returns for TD’s. And, I hope they have an answer for field goal accuracy ranked low in the conference last year. Over all, first game should be a blow out but if the continuing to start that game off sloww like the past two years then that tells me no changes. I will have a better an idea where this team ranks this year
after the OU game.
