It’s only week 1 of the NFL season, but one thing is clear; Christian Ponder is not the quarterback of the future for the Minnesota Vikings, and he should not the QB of the present.  He is bad, really bad.  Head Coach Leslie Frazier says he needs to be more consistent.  Well Coach, you can leave town with him.  In the loss to the Lions on Sunday, Ponder was consistent.  He overthrew, underthrew, and threw behind receivers for all four quarters.  The Vikings lost 34-24, however, if not for AP’s 78 yard TD run and Jerome Simpson’s ridiculous catch on an overthrown 47 yard bomb from Ponder, the score would have been much worse.

The biggest issue with this quarterback is that this inconsistent play is not a new development.  He has had this problem since being drafted by the Vikings in 2011.  In fact, he wasn’t very good at Florida State either.  The problem?  Inconsistency.  Sounds like a familiar pattern.  I know it’s always easy to kill the QB when the team plays badly, but it has to frustrate Minny fans everywhere to watch this player make the same mistakes over and over and over.

There is more bad news for the Vikings.  Their defense let Detroit move up and down the field at will, while the offensive line appeared to be taking the day off.  Yes, it’s only Week 1 of the NFL season, yet Minnesota looks to be in big trouble.
