The Patriots played the Bills yesterday. They had to have won by two TD’s, at least, right? At the very least, were in complete control of the game. They never had to worry about E.J. Hell, last year was the first time a QB wasn’t drafted in the first round since 2008 (In 2008, Jake Long from Michigan interrupted the streak of fist pick QB’s, otherwise it goes back to 2000 when Cleveland drafted Courtney Brown). That means EJ can’t be good. And it’s Buffalo. However, the Patriots had to pull of a last minute field goal to get the W in this one.
A lot of strange developments happened in this one. Ridley fumbled the ball and was then benched for the rest of the game. Giving Vereen a game of over a hundred yards. This is the reason why I believe the Pats can win the Super Bowl and why I never draft a Patriots running back in my fantasy leagues. The Patriots have depth at the running back position like no other team and few others seem to notice. This team can run many different way with Vereen, Woodhead, Ridley, and even Boldin as shown last year. A team can never know what to expect. But, it is easy to expect a lot of yards given up.
People seem to forget that the Patriots had one of the worst defenses last year in the NFL. They gave up more big plays than anyone else in the league and it is the only reason the Patriots aren’t the favorite to win the Super Bowl. This may be the quietest offseason they have ever had it terms of championship talk. And some of the loudest talk when it comes to the hijinks of Wes Welker. But, despite all of these things the Pats got a W and will probably get, at least, 10 more this season (However, the Pats have missed the playoffs with an eleven win season with Matt Cassel).
In the end, The Pats still have Bellichick and Brady. They are the guaranteed 10. Brady went 7 for 7 on the last, game winning, drive of the game. Many of the passes went to Amendola ( who showed guts going of the game hurt, but coming back into the game to make some huge first down catches). I believe people will slowly start to see that Amendola is a bigger, younger, and better WR than Welker. He took some shots on those first down catches that I just don’t think Welker would have held on to. I have watched many Pats games and most of Welker’s drops came from big hits.
There isn’t going to be many bumps in the road this year. The only loss in sight is in week four at Atlanta. The only losses that could happen this year is Atlanta, Saints, Cinci, and the Texans. Maybe the Ravens (but they didn’t look too good) and the Broncos (but I am never afraid of Peyton). If they loose all these games they are guaranteed 10 wins and a spot in the playoffs.
