Fantasy Week 2 Waivers

With the first week of the season in the books, the real fallout of fantasy drafts is upon us. Some owners may be throwing their hands in the air over the play of players like David Wilson, Calvin Johnson, Lamar Miller, Cam Newton, and others, its best to remind everyone that week 1 is often fluky and patience is preferred to blowing up your team just yet. That’s not to say that attention shouldn’t be given to questionable draft picks, and waivers can often patch some of those glaring holes in your team. Lets look at some of the top pick-ups for week 2.

Julius Thomas – There were grumblings about Thomas last season, though he could never get on the field behind Jacob Tamme and Joel Dressen. An athletic ex-basketball player, Thomas had a coming out party last Thursday to open the season and chances are if your league isn’t sporting a waiver system he’s long gone. Manning has gone on record saying that Thomas will remain a big part of the offense and though I wouldn’t usually trust a QBs press statement, I think Manning’s endorsement along with his gaudy stats to open the season make Thomas a must own. Available in 54% of leagues currently.

Julian Edelman – With the news that Danny Amendola (groin), Shane Vereen, (wrist) and Zach Sudfeld (hamstring) are hurt Edelman becomes a solid add, especially in PPR leagues. With Gronkowski still at likely to be at least another week out from playing, Tom Brady will look to Edelman in the passing game. Don’t forget, before he got hurt last season the Patriots were using Edelman over Wes Welker in some situations. Available in 75% of leagues currently.

Kenny Stills – The Saints may have brought in Robert Meacham, but only for depth. Stills ran through the preseason with a chip on his shoulder and continued to do so in his season debut. He has 4.3 wheels and goes after the ball. Though he may be behind Graham, Colston, Sproles, and Moore on the pecking order currently, that could change quickly over the next few games. He’s worth stashing or at least keeping an eye on over the next few weeks. Available in 89% of leagues currently.

Doug Baldwin – With Percy Harvin out at least until week 7 (or so he claims), but probably longer, Baldwin saw most of the looks from Russell Wilson. He is very much worth a look in PPR formats. Available in 98% of leagues currently.

Terrance Williams – He showed flashes in the Cowboys season opener and still appeared to have a ways to go before establishing any sort of fantasy consistency. Still with the injury scare to Dez Bryant, owners who took Bryant may want to handcuff their WR1 to be safe. Available in 99% of leagues currently.

Bryce Brown – Chip Kelly and the Eagles offense put on a show in the first half of Monday’s game against the Redskins and gave fantasy owners a small sample size of what their offense can do. Whether it can be maintained or not will be the question everyone is asking. LeSean McCoy touched the ball 32 times total and was clearly winded on a few drives. McCoy is of the smaller back variety and though he should be able to maintain stamina-wise, his durability may be a concern. Brown has likely been drafted in deeper leagues, but owners in more shallow leagues should look to handcuff Brown who had 9 carries of his own and could be useful on his own in some fantasy leagues. Available in 54% of leagues currently.

Sam Bradford – Finally with some weapons around him, Bradford is showing signs of what he was drafted to be when the Rams took him with the 1st overall pick. Jared Cook looks like a legit TE1 along with Tavon Austin and Chris Givens. He’s worth an add as a backup QB with the possibility of moving into lower end QB1 territory. Available in 52% of leagues currently.

Joique Bell – He vulture two TDs from Reggie Bush this week, much to fantasy owners’ chagrin, but he is the clear back up and a strong add. Especially, if Bush’s long tenured injury history creeps up on him. Available in 63% of leagues currently.

Others to watch: Knowshon Moreno (57% of leagues currently), Terrelle Pryor (88% of leagues currently), Fred Jackson (54% of leagues currently), and Marlon Brown ( 95% of leagues currently).
