It only took the second game for Manny Diaz to get fired. Personally after last year I would have released him at the end of the season. Mack is a very fair coach and secure in his position. I don’t think Texas will ever fire him regardless how bad it gets. And, I have a feeling its gone get pretty bad. To give up over 600 yards on defense with all the talent they have is unheard of, just can’t believe it.
I thought Texas would win by two touchdowns. But, I still had a concern with the defense. They really played better the week earlier but again that was against New Mexico State.
I thought Texas defensive line was good but against BYU they didn’t look so good. BYU pushed the line all over the place as the game went on. I thought maybe if they went to a 5-2 defense may help things. But, after watching the game. I saw no heart! I am not sure if the altitude got to the defense or they just gave up on Diaz.
Greg Robinson is a very good coach. He seems to be a players coach and knows how to teach proper tackling. He also emphasis turnovers. I am concerned current personnel may not be able to play his style of defense. If not its gonna be a long year. Texas could not stop the run and the leading rusher was the QB that was not able to throw the ball. All the had to do was line up and play smash ball.
I thought early in the game Texas didn’t look to bad but again, as the game went on they just looked worse. I don’t think the last minute coaching change will help. I hope I am wrong. They have a few tough games in a row before the big OU game.
I guess on offense it starts with the offensive coordinator and in this game he failed to have the team prepared to win the game. I don’t blame it all on him. He can’t play the game for the team. One big problem is execution. This line has failed to drive on run blocks and protect on pass plays against good defense.Ash threw no interceptions in this game but went out of the game with a head injury. Texas had no backs go over 100 yards this week but had two receivers over the century mark.
I still have not figured out the identity of this offense. I understand they want a hurry up offense but it must be productive and at this time it is not. They also have a key injury in D.Johnson.
The coaching staff gets a D for this game and the players will get a C.
