The Wisconsin – Arizona St game was everything it was advertised to be, exciting spread offense lead by ASU vs Wisconsin’s powerful run game, pretty evenly matched defenses, talent and high temperatures.
ASU running back Marion Grice rushed for 4 TD’s/84 yds. WI’s Melvin Gordon put up 193 yds/2 TD’s.
All of those things were overshadowed by a bizarre play with just seconds remaining that would of given Wisconsin the go-ahead game winning FG.
Here is what happened at the end of the game that left the Wisconsin players and coaches stunned. The ball was on the right hash mark, QB Joel Stave took the snap ran towards his left to center the ball for what he thought would be the game winning FG. Stave looked as if he was going to take a knee to end the play, but ran into one of his lineman, he set the ball down on the ground however.
Players from both teams stood around for a few seconds in confusion before jumping on the ball, the officials however, signaled as if it was a dead ball. Realizing the clock had not stopped, WI quickly tried to get up to the line of scrimmage with about 3 seconds left and snap the ball but the clock ran out. Sending the ASU players running off the field cheering and celebrating.
