Fantasy Football Week 3 Waivers

There were a lot of running backs feeling the sting in just week 2 of the season, and savvy fantasy owners should keep their ears to the ground and nose in the waivers as there is some good value already early in the season.

Bernard Pierce – With Ray Rice suffering a non-contact injury owners should hit the waivers for handcuff Bernard Pierce first and foremost if he is still available. Rice is listed as day-day according to Jim Harbaugh, but it is likely that he sits at least one game. Pierce has stand alone value even if Rice does play. He is currently owned in 46% of leagues.

James Starks – Eddie Lacy suffered a concussion on his first carry against the Redskins and Starks proceeded to give the Packers their first 100 yard rushing day in ages. It is unknown how long exactly Lacy could be sidelined, but with Green Bay’s BYE week coming up in week 4, he could be out until week 5. Starks is worth grabbing for all Lacy owners, but realize it will likely be a one week filler. He is currently available in 90% of leagues.

Eddie Royal – He will likely be a priority on waivers, and after 5 TDs to start the year, it’s understandable why. However, if and when defenses key in on him it’s hard to say what Royal’s ceiling is. He should be a solid grab in PPR leagues, but owners should temper expectation. The upside is that he will likely be one of the main targets in the passing game opposite of Antonio Gates. He is currently available in 80% of leagues.

Jason Snelling – There is talk that Steven Jackson could be out until after the Falcons’ week 6 BYE, and though Jacquizz Rodgers got the first look, Snelling is the better all around back for what the Falcons do on offense. Jackson has been ruled out for at least week 3. Owners should grab him with the understanding that Jackson could come back early and that Snelling may split carries, but TDs rule fantasy and he is more likely to get carries around the red-zone. He is currently available in 99% of leagues.

DeAndre Hopkins – When Andre Johnson suffered a concussion on Sunday, Hopkins took the role of WR1 for the Texans and helped lead them to an overtime victory. Though Johnson is not likely to miss this week’s game, he has established himself in the passing game as a reliable option that Matt Schaub will key in on when defenses try to take Andre Johnson away. He is currently available in 52% of leagues.

Marlon Brown – After putting up another solid week in fantasy, Brown should be grabbed in most leagues. The drop off at the tight end position is likely going to increase the attention for the 6’5” rookie, as well as increase targets. He is currently available in 75% of leagues.

Tyler Eifert – Eifert’s production will likely increase and the season wears on, and now is a good time to grab him if you are hurting at tight end or in need of a BYE week filler. Andy Dalton is getting more comfortable with him and he is being moved all around the formations. He is currently available in 81% of leagues.

Others to watch: Joique Bell (24% of leagues, he should be owned in all leagues. Just a note for stragglers.), Knowshon Moreno (47% of leagues), and Coby Fleener (89% of leagues).
