Jets Slide By The Bills
Posted By Matt Brody On Sep 23 2013 @ 10:41 pm In New York Jets | No Comments
The New York Jets led from the start and never looked back.
They took the opening drive 80 yards down the field, capping it off with an 8-yard touchdown run by Geno Smith. That was just the beginning for the Jets’ offense that came alive in a 27-20 victory over the Buffalo Bills.
Smith added two touchdown passes, including a 69-yard toss to Santonio Holmes in the fourth quarter, and racked up 331 yards as the Jets improved to 2-1. The rookie made a couple mistakes and threw two interceptions, but ultimately outdueled opposing rookie quarterback E.J. Manuel.
As good as the Jets looked at times it was still an extremely sloppy game. There were yellow flags on the field throughout the entire contest. New York was called for 20 penalties totaling 168 yards. At the end of the day head coach Rex Ryan will take the victory, but he can’t be happy with those penalties.
Aside from the flags New York’s defense kept Buffalo in check. Running back C.J. Spiller suffered an injury and was ineffective gaining 9 yards on 10 carries. Fred Jackson broke a long run for 59 yards, but only rushed for 13 more the rest of the game.
The pass rush was in full force. The Jets were able to sack Manuel 8 times, including two from Muhammad Wilkerson.
With the help of a career-high 149 rushing yards from Bilal Powell the Jets were able to have a balanced attack. They made big plays when it counted and came away with a much needed win.
