All Eyes On The Jets

The New York Jets need all the help they can get on offense.

With a rookie quarterback under center you’d like to provide him with some weapons to make his life a little easier.  When Geno Smith plays in his first Monday night game against the Atlanta Falcons he’s going to have some unfamiliar faces lined up alongside him.

The Jets will in all likelihood be without their top two receivers this week.  Stephen Hill suffered a concussion early in the game against Tennessee and Santonio Holmes injured his hamstring.  That means guys like Jeremy Kerley, Ben Obomanu and Clyde Gates will be called on to run routes for the rookie quarterback.

It also means the Jets will most likely rely heavily on the running game.  Bilal Powell has been given the majority of carries the past couple weeks, but it will be interesting to see how New York uses running back Mike Goodson who has been cleared to play after serving a four-game suspension.

The Jets’ secondary is going to have its hands full.  With the absence of running back Steven Jackson Atlanta has been focusing on its air attack.  The Falcons are averaging 316.5 passing yards per game.

Matt Ryan threw for a career-high 421 yards last week, while Julio Jones is leading the league with 481 receiving yards this season.  That lethal duo, along with Tony Gonzalez and a banged up Roddy White, will force the defense to be creative with its coverage schemes.

Atlanta had high expectations coming into this season, but is currently sitting at 1-3 after losing its last two games.  New York knew it was going to be an up and down season when the organization decided to start a rookie at quarterback.  Who is going to step up when the entire nation is watching?

Final Score: Atlanta 27  New York 20
