Jets Are Ready For Takeoff

The New York Jets and Pittsburgh Steelers are moving in opposite directions.  The Jets are coming into this game with all the confidence in the world after a huge win on Monday night.  The Steelers are lacking an identity following an 0-4 start.

The Jets, who are undefeated at home, will try to put together their first winning streak of the season.  If Geno Smith really wants to prove he’s turned a corner he needs to take care of business this week.

Pittsburgh’s defense has not forced a turnover the entire season, which had been Smith’s downfall up until last week.  This Steelers defense is definitely not the same unit the black and yellow have become accustomed to.  Although they’re giving up less than 200 passing yards per game they’re ranked 25th in rush defense and have allowed 27.5 points per contest.

Earlier this week Pittsburgh head coach Mike Tomlin banned his team from playing games in the locker room.  That’s a clear indication that tensions are high.  When they come out Sunday afternoon Tomlin and his team will mean business.  They can’t afford to lose.  It’s make or break time for them.

Ben Roethlisberger and the offense haven’t been able to get much going through four games.  With a beat up backfield their running game has almost been nonexistent.  Rookie Le’Veon Bell is back from an injury after missing the first three games which should help.  He’s a talented young guy, but the offensive line in front of him has been anything but consistent this season.

The Jets may be without their top cornerback Antonio Cromartie after he injured his knee in practice this week.  The Steelers have some skilled receivers, so it could be a problem for New York if Cromartie isn’t on the field.

With the secondary hurting, head coach Rex Ryan will need to be creative with his blitz schemes.  They need to get pressure on Roethlisberger, who is a tough guy to take down, in order to help the defensive backs.

If New York’s defense does its job and the offense plays mistake free the Jets will put themselves in a position to win.

Final Score: New York 24  Pittsburgh 14
