Jets Roughed Up By Bengals

There are not many positives to take away from Sunday afternoon’s game.
On the opening possession of the game the New York Jets allowed the Cincinnati Bengals to drive down the field and score a touchdown. It only got worse from there.
The Bengals made it into the end zone on four of their six first-half possessions en route to a 49-9 victory.
The Jets’ lopsided loss is just the latest example of the team’s inconsistency. While the Bengals got off to a fast start the Jets accumulated 1 net yard in the first quarter and it didn’t get much better from there.
Geno Smith completed 20 of 30 passes for 159 yards and threw two interceptions, which were both returned for touchdowns. On the first play of the second half Smith dropped back and was intercepted by Chris Crocker, who returned it for 32 yards. The rookie quarterback was eventually replaced by Matt Simms in the fourth quarter.
It wasn’t just the offense that struggled, New York looked helpless on both sides of the ball.
The defense could not make a stop at crucial moments and let the Bengals convert six of 11 third-downs. Andy Dalton had a career game throwing five touchdowns, four of them to second-year wide receiver Marvin Jones. The Jets’ secondary looked lost and Dalton made them pay by throwing it long on multiple occasions, completing two different passes of more than 50 yards to A.J. Green.
Once again cornerback Dee Milliner was sent to the bench after he failed to cover Jones. Replacement Darrin Walls didn’t do much better. He let Jones score a touchdown almost immediately after entering the game.
The Jets continued their up and down season on Sunday. They still have not been able to string together back-to-back wins. When you come out flat it’s tough to win a ballgame. The Bengals looked ready to play, while the Jets did not. It’s as simple as that.
