Jets Upset Saints

As the New York Jets headed off the field and into the bye week everyone was smiling.

New York stuck it to the Super Bowl contender New Orleans Saints and came away with a 26-20 victory.

The Jets’ defense stepped up to the challenge of stopping Drew Brees and held the Saints to six second-half points.  It was the type of defensive performance that Rex Ryan loves seeing.  They were up in Brees’ face all day, which led to interceptions by DeMario Davis and Antonio Cromartie.  Calvin Pace and Muhammad Wilkerson each chipped in with a sack.

The offense did their part, too.  Running back Chris Ivory, against his former team, rushed for 139 yards on 18 carries and a touchdown.  He took a lot of pressure off quarterback Geno Smith.  Smith only threw it 19 times completing eight passes for 115 yards, but it was enough.

Rob Ryan’s defense has improved this season, but the Jets’ offense, including four field goals from Nick Folk, moved the ball up and down the field all day.

Through nine weeks the Jets are 5-4 and have won every other game.  A victory like this could give New York just the boost it needs heading down the stretch.
