Jets Streak Comes To An End

The New York Jets were unable to do one of the few things they’ve done well this season. Rebound after a loss.
For the second straight week the Jets’ offense came out flat as they fell to the Baltimore Ravens, 19-3. Give credit to the Ravens’ defense. They played their best game of the season forcing three turnovers and allowing only 220 yards of total offense.
Once again Geno Smith was hit with the turnover bug. He threw two interceptions and lost a fumble, while completing just nine of 22 pass attempts for 127 yards. Baltimore prides itself on defense and that’s what won them the game.
The Ravens’ offense did what it needed to do. Joe Flacco connected with Jacoby Jones on a 66-yard touchdown and Justin Tucker pitched in with four field goals. Flacco finished with 273 yards and one interception, which Antonio Cromartie returned for 20 yards.
New York’s defense did a good job of stopping the run. Baltimore gained a total of 67 yards on the ground, including 30 yards from Ray Rice on 16 rushes. The unit was able to get pressure on Flacco for a good portion of the day. They sacked the quarterback four times, two of those coming from Muhammad Wilkerson.
The Jets’ streak of alternating wins has come to a halt. Although the team is still in the playoff hunt at 5-6, with the way the offense has played the past two weeks it’s going to be tough to beat anybody. There’s only so much the defense can do. The offense needs to keep its end of the bargain and that starts with fixing the turnover problem.
