Jets Fall Flat Against Dolphins

Sunday was not pretty. The New York Jets could not get anything going offensively and fell 23-3 to the Miami Dolphins.
Geno Smith once again took a step backwards. He just looked uncomfortable in the pocket. The rookie completed four of ten passes for 29 yards and threw an interception right before the half, which Miami turned into three points to go up 6-0.
After a first half that was almost unwatchable coach Rex Ryan decided to go with Matt Simms at quarterback in the second half. To say Simms did better than Smith is not saying much, but he did complete nine out of 18 passes for 79 yards and led New York down to the goal line once. He also threw an interception and lost a fumble.
The Jets’ defense kept Ryan Tannehill and the Dolphins’ offense in check for most of the game, but there’s only so much they can do when they’re on the field for 38 minutes. New York’s unit looked tired and deflated as the game progressed.
New York converted two of twelve third-downs. That’s not going to cut it. For the second week in a row the Jets failed to make it into the end zone. Mathematically they still have a shot to make the playoffs, but they’ll need to score some points to keep the dream alive.
