This week the New York Jets will attempt to win back-to-back games for the first time this season. It won’t be easy as they go up against the 9-4 Carolina Panthers.
The Panthers have been one of the hottest teams in the NFL. They had an eight-game winning streak going but it was snapped last week against the New Orleans Saints. It would be a smart move for Rex Ryan to talk to his brother, Rob, to get some insight on how to beat Carolina.
In his third season Cam Newton has become the leader of his team. The Jets’ defense will need to do a good job of containing the quarterback. If he’s able to scramble free it won’t end well for New York. The guy is a playmaker and can beat you with his arm as well as his legs.
The Jets’ offense looked like an NFL offense last week. They may not be able to put up 37 points on the Panthers’ defense, but they’re gonna have to get on the scoreboard. Carolina leads the league giving up just 14.5 points per game, so New York will have to seize every scoring opportunity they have.
Geno Smith may have some trouble with the secondary of Carolina. They rank fifth in pass defense and have a total of 16 interceptions this season.
Don’t expect to see much success on the ground for either team. While New York is currently ranked No. 2 in run defense, Carolina is No. 1. Both teams have running backs who can rack up the yards, but the way these defenses have been playing rushing yards will be tough to come by.
The Jets cannot have a letdown after last week’s victory. The team is fighting for its playoff life and needs a win on the road. Will they rise to the occasion?
Final Score: Carolina 26 New York 20
