Playing For Pride
Posted By Matt Brody On Dec 20 2013 @ 8:18 pm In New York Jets | No Comments
Other than pride the New York Jets do not have much to play for. At 6-8 they have a chance to go .500, which is respectable, but they have to show up in their final two games.
This week they have the 4-10 Cleveland Browns, who don’t have a lot to play for either. It’s rare to see a team more dysfunctional than the Jets, but the Browns may have accomplished that. Cleveland’s season has been a circus. From trading their star running back to starting three different quarterbacks this is a season to forget.
These guys are all professionals and you would hope they’d give it their all regardless of the situation, but you never know.
Six wins with a rookie quarterback is nothing to be ashamed of. Coming into this season there weren’t extremely high expectations for the Jets. After a 6-10 year they looked like they were in rebuilding mode. With multiple rookies starting on defense it’s impressive how strong the unit has been. Defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson has the potential to be a star, but cornerback Dee Milliner’s future is still up in the air.
This week is another opportunity for these young guys to grow. The veterans need to play tough and show the rookies how to play with heart. At the end of the day it would help New York’s draft position if they lost their final two games, but it would build character and team morale if they won.
Final Score: New York 20 Cleveland 12
