The New York Jets have the opportunity to play spoiler on Sunday.
At 8-7 the Miami Dolphins have a chance to make the playoffs if all the cards fall the right way. The most important part is to win. If they lose it’s all over for Miami.
New York is coming off a big win as they head down south and would love to ruin Miami’s season.
There’s a chance this could be head coach Rex Ryan’s final game with the Jets so you know he’s going to be fired up and it wouldn’t be surprising to see his players feed off of that.
Miami did not look like a playoff caliber team when they were shutout by the Buffalo Bills last week. Quarterback Ryan Tannehill was constantly being hit and Miami now leads the league in sacks allowed with 58.
The problems on the offensive line can be in part attributed to the loss of Jonathan Martin and Richie Incognito. In fact, it’s pretty shocking that the Dolphins are even in playoff contention after the scandal they went through.
Both of these teams have definitely had up and down seasons.
Quarterback Geno Smith has shown improvement in his last three games by throwing four touchdowns. He went through a stretch in the middle of the season where people were questioning his talent. If he can finish with a strong game it would help silence many of his critics.
The Jets would love to end the Dolphins’ season and finishing 8-8 would be a huge step in the right direction.
Final Score: New York 23 Miami 16
