Munchak to Meet with Tommy Smith and Ruston Webster in Houston

This has been a long week for Titans fans, who are anxiously awaiting news on who will be the coaching the team next year. Tommy Smith made it known that the Titans wouldn’t make their decision on the infamous “Black Monday” that saw five other NFL coaches lose their jobs. Now, 3 days later the Titans are finally having their end of the year meeting with Mike Munchak and the reports are that Tommy Smith and Ruston Webster (Titans GM) will also be there. Mr. Smith met with Ruston Webster twice already this week.

It is my personal opinion that we will find out the fate of Mike Munchak today or tomorrow morning at the latest. When Munchak lands back in Nashville it will be no secret. The media will then begin asking questions and someone will have to answer. If there is no answer by tomorrow morning, then I will be very worried about the leadership of the front office. This is a crucial decision and should be treated as such but you can’t wait forever to make this kind of move.  When Jeff Fisher “left” it was late in January and most of the coaching candidates were already gone.  You can’t afford for that to happen again.  Two teams have already filled their head coaching vacancies and the job spots always seem to fill up quickly.

It is also my personal opinion that Mike Munchak will be fired after 3 seasons, but I do think if that happens Munchak he will be the next Penn State head coach. It’s just a waiting game now, but patience is running thin amongst Titans’ fans.  However, we should hear something very, very soon. . . I hope. [2]

It is also now being reported that the Titans have talked to other candidates even though they have not officially fired Munchak yet. I’ve been hearing some chatter about how that’s disrespectful and classless. That may be true but how is it any different than Munchak talking to Penn State about becoming their next head coach while he is still under contract? It’s the same principle in my eyes. If Munch tries to use the Penn State job as leverage then Tennessee has every right to use other candidates that they have talked to as leverage also.
