Mike Green achieves 2 out of 3 personal milestones in win

Coming into tonight’s game with the Tampa Bay Lightning Caps defencemen Mike Green had a chance to achieve three big milestones: 100 career goals, 200 career assists, and 300 career points. Green was able to accomplish two of these personal milestones and help his team break a four game losing streak, winning by a score of 4-3. The twenty-eight year old Calgary native is now on an amazing hot streak with this game and the Caps previous game last Saturday against Minnesota where he recorded his fifteenth career two goal game.

What is ironic about Green’s two personal milestones is that he got them by trying to go for the one he didn’t achieve in the end. His 200th career assist came off a power play goal that was almost given to him but then was given to Mikhail Grabovski instead. On his 300th career point he took a slap shot that ended up being deflected in by Eric Fehr to take the lead and the win giving Green his second assist of the night, Fehr finished with two goals on the night.

Washington’s no. 2 ranked power play unit definitely showed up tonight scoring two out of three times on the Lightning’s 15th ranked penalty kill unit. There were only a total of four penalties between these two teams which is unusual to see in a Caps game. Tampa Bay’s highlights were Ondrej Palat recording a goal and an assist, and B.J. Crombeen snapping a 56 game scoreless streak with a goal.

The Caps will return home Friday to take on a Toronto Maple Leafs team that beat them in a shootout 2-1 back on November 23th. Game time will be 7:00pm/ET at the Verizion Center.
