Clippers Interested in Metta World Peace?

The New York Knicks announced Monday that they have officially reached buyout agreements with guard Beno Udrih and forward Metta World Peace, making both players free agents. World Peace has battled injuries throughout the season, and played in just 29 games for the Knicks, averaging 4.8 points and 2.0 rebounds per game while shooting just under 40% from the floor.

The Knicks signed him after the Lakers used the amnesty provision on him following the 2012-13 season, but obviously things never really worked out. The Knicks have plenty of wings, and he struggled to crack the rotation.

A report from Sam Amick of USA Today indicated that the Clippers, who now have two open roster spots following the signing of Glen Davis earlier Monday, may have interest in the veteran forward. The team would likely offer him the minimum salary to join the team for the remainder of the season.

L.A. is in need of some frontcourt depth, as Antawn Jamison and Byron Mullens were both traded last week in order to save the club a little money.

World Peace’s best days are well in the past at this point, but perhaps he could be a useful defensive body for the Clippers in limited minutes. He may also be able to add a bit of a three-point shooting threat, though his effectiveness from beyond-the-arc has waned considerably in recent years.

I don’t imagine he’d play much of a role at all on the floor for the Clippers, but he’ll be an available depth piece if they’re ever in need of a guy to come in and give a few fouls/spare guys like Barnes and Griffin for a few minutes.
