Ovie’s first “all time” goal against Hiller leads to Hiller’s “first ever” regulation loss to the Caps

The Washington Capitals came into tonight’s game with the Anaheim Ducks to start a three game West Coast road trip in hopes of moving up in the playoff race. Washington was able to exact revenge on the Ducks for beating them earlier this season by winning tonight by a score of 3-2. The go-ahead goal was scored by Caps winger and captain Alex Ovechkin, making it his first career goal against Ducks goalie Jonas Hiller. This loss tonight was also Hiller’s first career loss he has suffered against the Caps (2-1-1).

Anaheim’s home ice woes continue now as they have lost four straight games at the Honda Center, and two of their last nine home games (2-5-2). Washington on the other hand extends their winning streak to three games and has won four of their last six. The power play unit for the Caps was very successful tonight scoring two out of three chances. They have now scored 14 power play goals in their last 11 games after tonight.

Caps third line right winger Joel Ward, who has had a personal milestone season so far for Washington, scored his 21st goal tonight and has now scored a point in three straight games.  Second line right winger Troy Brouwer scored a goal tonight on the power play making it his fourth goal in his past six games, and center Nicklas Backstrom helped out by recording two assists.  Goalie Jaroslav Halak, who has won three of the last five games he has started between the pipes, recorded 43 saves despite his bad luck when playing the Ducks at the Honda Center (1-4-0 before tonight), he now has a .500 record against the Ducks (5-5-0 after tonight).

The Caps will get a day off to rest and prepare to face off against the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday night.  Game time will be at 10:30pm/ET.
