On a night when Manny Machado was on a roll with an RBI double in the second inning and then struggled for the next ten innings, the O’s young third baseman came through in bottom of the twelfth with a game winning homer to defeat the Los Angeles Angels 7-6. Machado mentioned after the game in his MASN interview that this was his first ever walk-off home run. The O’s are now 12-3 in extra inning games this season and remain undefeated (6-0) in extras in the month of July.
Tonight’s pitching duel between the Angels Jered Weaver and the O’s Chris Tillman was just as competitve as the last time they faced off during the O’s recent West Coast road trip. Weaver earned a no decision tonight pitching five innings giving up seven hits, six earned runs, four walks and striking out four. Tillman also earned a no decision and lasted five innings, only he gave up six hits, five runs (three earned), one walk and struck out six batters.
Baltimore home runs also came from Adam Jones with a solo homer in the first and Nick Markakis with a three-run homer in fourth. Delmon Young, who was the designated hitter tonight, went 3 for 5 keeping his four game hit streak alive and giving him his tenth multi-hit game of the season. Angels Albert Pujols and Josh Hamilton combind for six hits, two RBI’s and one home run including Hamilton’s 11th homer at Camden Yards in 24 games.
