Tonight’s game was the night for Orioles players, legends and fans to be proud of. On the same night that the Baltimore Orioles celebrate their 60th anniversary of existance and honors members of their Orioles Hall of Fame the Orioles of today bring down the Cardinals 12-2. The O’s wore their throwback uniforms from the 1954 season tonight.
The Orioles last win with ten or more runs was back on April 24th of this season when they defeated the Blue Jays in Toronto 11-4. It was also their first win at home with ten or more runs since August 25th, 2013. Orioles starter Chris Tillman earned his 9th victory of the season pitching six and two-thirds innings giving up four hits, two runs, one walk and striking out seven. Tillman still has not lost a game since July 12th.
Baltimore made a season milestone by hitting six home runs in tonight’s game. O’s shortstop J.J. Hardy hit home runs number 5 and 6 in back-to-back innings in the third and fourth driving in four runs in the process. This was Hardy’s 11th career multi-homer game of his career and first of this season. Other home runs were hit by Manny Machado, Adam Jones, Chris Davis and Ryan Flaherty combining for seven of tonight’s twelve runs.
Cardinals starter Justin Masterson, who was acquired from the Indians, only pitched two plus innings after failing to get anyone out in the third inning, earned a loss giving up seven hits, five runs, three walks, two hit batters and one wild pitch. Tonight was Masterson’s 7th straight outing with three or more walks, he has also now hit thirteen batters and thrown ten wild pitches this season.
These two bird teams will square off tomorrow at 4:05pm/ET. Probables for this game will be also newly acquired John Lackey for St. Louis who has faced the O’s three times already this year and Ubaldo Jimenez who is coming off the DL and has not pitched since July 5th.
