After a rocky start in the beginning of the season the Cyclones quickly turn around and made it a heck of a run. The only problem for the Iowa State in this game really was the offense just simply couldn’t get on the board and the thing that worked running game going. Alexander Robinson barley had a 100 yrds rushing. The defense also had a tough time stopping the Tigers but they did make Missouri have two fumbles. So overall this season was a valiant effort by the Cyclones, hopefully next year will be a better outcome.

Iowa State really has the odd stack up against them now for a chance to become bowl eligible. they have to win saturday against Missouri, who has only two losses on the season. Iowa State has to go without their starter senior quarterback, Austen Arnaud for the rest of the season due to a knee injury. In order for the Cyclones to win this game they have to heavily rely on their defense and running game, which the trend for the year has been if both those factors are working they win. But the problem with loosing Arnaud is that the Missouri defense will be ready to shutdown running back Alexander Robinson and the running game.

The Cyclone defense has a tough task this week against Missouri because they use two quarterbacks, their freshman QB James Franklin on a few running downs. But QB Blaine Gabbert has been taking off in the open field, in the Kansas State game, whenever Kansas State dropped eight players into man coverage, which left the middle of the field wide open. Gabbert ended the game with 89 yards on 14 carries, and should be more of a running threat.

This week is due or die for Iowa State, this is their last game for the regular season, because they have a bye next week. So they have sit and wait about their feature next week. But they have to beat the tigers Saturday to even have the uncertain outcome of the rest of their season. If they don’t win Saturday, the Cyclones are done and they have to regroup and start thinking about next season. I hope that is not the case but they have to pull out an upset, we shall see.

Another one bites the dust for the Iowa State Cyclones. Another victory and chance to become bowl eligible slipped away, losing to the “new” Colorado Buffaloes under interim head coach Brian Cabral. The win gave Colorado their first conference win of the season, and their first win in over a month.

Colorado just took Iowa State to school holding the Cyclones to only 229 yards in total offense. They had 235 yards passing and -6 yards rushing. It was the poorest show of the offense and the running game this year. Iowa State is running out of chances to become bowl eligible. Iowa State has to win next week against Missouri to become bowl eligible. By the way they played in this game I have to say their season is over folks. Colorado look as though it deserve better to become bowl eligible. Even the Cyclones defense didn’t showed up to play, they didn’t get any interceptions, just forced a couple fumbles.

The outcome for this season will most likely be bitter sweet for the Cyclones because they struggled in the beginning and then turn on “heat” and started to look like a real football team. But unless they pulled off a miracle, upset against the Tigers next week, it will be better luck next year Cyclone fans.

Dan Hawkins was fired this week after their 52-46 loss to Kansas last weekend. Longtime assistant Brian Cabral, the Buffaloes’ defensive coordinator, was named interim coach. Another reason for the firing is Colorado has a 0-5 start in conference play, first time ever in the football program’s affiliation to leagues dates to 1915.

The Colorado Buffaloes offense under Dan Hawkins, heavily relied on his son the quarterback Cody Hawkins by passing the ball. They might change their ways and run the ball which against the Cyclones would be a good idea because the Iowa State defense like to intercept. The Iowa State offense might have their way with the Colorado defense because they haven’t really be able to dominate at all this season due to injuries.

This game should be the game to make Iowa State bowl eligible, Colorado is on a big tailspin but they might rise up and big a competitor. They will be playing for their pride, trying to get at least one Big 12 victory to salvage this horrible season for them. Well shall see at the end o f the game if Iowa State overall dominates or Colorado upsets.

Poo, Iowa State let one just slip by, now this one was a tough loss. Now if I was the Cyclones, I wouldn’t really change anything because they payed their hearts out in this one, the only thing that really should be different is the outcome. Iowa State did jump out to an early lead, leading 10-7 at half time. But the Second half was a full out back and forth battle. Nebraska came out of the gate first scoring 17 points in the third quarter to get ahead. Then in the forth quarter the Cyclones came back scoring 14 [points to make the game out into overtime, with both teams at 24 a piece. The ISU offence under Austen Arnaud, overall had a pretty good game. Arnaud threw for 203 yards and three TDs but, he also had two costly picks for Iowa State, which lost for the 29th time in its last 33 games against the Cornhuskers. The defense did a good job forcing a couple turnovers, but this game I guess wasn’t the won to win for the Cyclones.

I mean this by far was the Cyclones best game, I mean they showed they can really hang tough with the big guys. Losing in overtime, I mean come on, if they don’t get to be bowl eligible I will be shocked. I guess Iowa State will have to win either next week against Colorado next week or the following week against Missouri to become bowl eligible. Colorado, might be the opponent for Iowa State to defeated to be bowl eligible, because Buffaloes haven’t won a game since they played Georgia over a month ago winning that game 29-27.

Even though Nebraska is ranked no. 9, the Cyclones have been playing great football the past couple weeks. If they keep running the ball like they have and forcing turnovers they should pull out a upset victory. It would be Iowa State’s first win against a ranked opponent all season. They have lost against Iowa, Utah, and Oklahoma giving a combine score of 155 points. Another reason I think Iowa State will win this Saturday is because they defeated Nebraska last year, so it possible.

Nebraska on th other hand need to win this week too, to keep their seson alive as well. They could be without two starters, quarterback Taylor Martinez (ankle) and cornerback Alfonzo Dennard (concussion). Neither had practiced this week through Tuesday, and both players were day-to-day. The big thing for Nebraska needs to do in order to win aganist Iowa State is win the turnover battle. The Huskers committed 13 turnovers in their last two games against Iowa State, and they have been fumble-prone this season with 26 fumbles (including nine lost). The Huskers are coming off a turnover-free game against Missouri.

I feel this game could be a interesting and very close game to watch and its really a coin toss to say who is going to win. This game has a make up to be an all out war, I am excited to see the outcome.

Iowa State struggled in the first half. They only completed five first downs and their only touchdown was a 62 yard punt returned by Jost Lenz.Alexander Robinson had another good game with another 100 plus yard rushing with a total of 117 yard in 17 carries. Robinson became the forth highest career rusher in school history with 3,088 yards. The Cyclones had a total of 400 yards on the day 278 yard in the second half alone and that is when they scored all their points. They had three touchdowns in the third quarter by Alexander Robinson, Jeff Woody, and Shontrelle Johnson all of which where rushing.

Kansas on the other hand suffer their 11th straight B12 game lost. The Jayhawks, down to third-stringer Quinn Mecham due to injures only had a total of 268 yards on the day. Mecham, who had thrown only one pass prior to Saturday, went 22 for 33 for 149 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Kansas didn’t get its lone touchdown until Mecham tossed a 5-yard pass to James Sims with 7 seconds left.

The Cyclones have really turn around this season, because if they just need to win one more game and they will be bowl eligible. Next up for Iowa State is 14th ranked Nebraska Cornhuskers.

The Iowa State Cyclones have a good opportunity this weekend to start a winning streak if they pull off a victory against the Kansas Jayhawks. After last weeks game this seems like a very good possibility if they play just like they did against Texas. The Cyclones game plan should be they need Alexander Robinson to have another 100 plus yards and the offense needs a 20 point cushion to lock up the win. Oh and of course the defense needs to cause turnovers, if Iowa State follows that to a “T” they should get another “W”.

As for Kansas, the odds stack against them for this game, with several Kansas skill players either ailing or suspended, the Jayhawks would be wise to at least try to pound the football with RBs James Sims and Angus Quigley. TE Tim Biere, who could emerge as an outlet receiver in some instances with Kansas turning to third-string QB Quinn Mecham, a junior-college transfer who has played sparingly. Biere is coming off a big game against Texas A&M, when he established career bests for receptions (four) and yards receiving (67). He scored on a 16-yard strike and also logged a 32-yard catch.QB Jordan Webb figures to be available as a backup against Iowa State after suffering a shoulder injury against Texas A&M. His backup, QB Kale Pick, will be out after suffering a concussion in the A&M game. QB Quinn Mecham, who went into the A&M game as the third-stringer, was named the starter for the Iowa State game. With the unusual status of the Kansas roster I feel without a doubt Iowa State will get the victory and if they don’t well….it will be hard to be a Cyclone fan.

Many props today, for one the game plan could not go any better. The Clones scored the right amount of points and the run game was right on with 199 yards of the total 335 yards for the day. Alexander Robinson rushing for 120 yards and two touchdowns. Iowa State drew first blood by scoring a touchdown in the first quarter and scored one every quarter. Texas didn’t get on the board until the second quarter, with a field goal. The defense still had a good show with snatching 3 interceptions and recovering 1 fumble. The also held Texas to 98 yards rushing. Overall this game was exactly what the doctor order for Iowa State, for one, they got their first road victory of the year and two, they defeated a ranked team. The Longhorns have dropped consecutive home losses for the first time since 1997.

Now Iowa State is back to .500 and look to go above .500 with a win next week against the Kansas Jayhawks at home. Next week’s game should be pretty good for Iowa State because Kansas is struggling this season with 2-5 record. The Jayhawks have been blow out by their past four opponents, so if the Cyclones play exactly the same next week, they will be above .500.

I feel this game will be a big confidence booster for the team if they can come out with a win or make it a very close game. The Longhorns are to looks run the ball. They are very good success with that against Nebraska last week.

Iowa State my have to follow suite and stick to the run game against the Longhorn defenses. The offense may not what to pass as much because I feel the Texas defense is like the Iowa State defense, which is get at defending the pass and ok against the run. Overall I think these two teams are mirror images of each other except for the fact that Texas has had a little more success than the Iowa State.

I feel if Iowa State comes out running and use the play action past option once in awhile, I think they can get a early lead. If they score at least 3 touchdowns and maintain their lead and stop the Longhorns. They could probably pull out a close victory. My guess is 27-20 Iowa State over Texas……Go Cyclones.
