Joe Might Go – And Soon
Posted on 8 Nov 2011 by Stephanie Geosits.
With the cancelling of Joe Paterno's weekly press conference on Tuesday, the New York Times reported that PSU is planning his exit in the wake of the Jerry Sandusky arrest on multiple counts of molesting children. The Nittany Lions are the only undefeated team in the Big Ten and they host Nebraska on Saturday, but really, no one cares. In what was looking to be a redemptive season for JoePa ...

PSU’s Good, Bad and Ugly
Posted on 5 Nov 2011 by Stephanie Geosits.
First the good news – PSU (8-1, 5-0) beat Illinois 10-7 last week in the waning moments of the game to somehow head into this bye week as the only unbeaten in the Big Ten in conference play. The Nittany Lions' only loss of the year was to Alabama – not too shabby if you haven't watched the games. Derek Moye came back unexpectedly from a foot injury to help lead Penn State to victo...

PSU Looks for Payback Vs. Illinois
Posted on 27 Oct 2011 by Stephanie Geosits.
Illinois spoiled Penn State's Homecoming last year, and the Nittany Lions would love to avenge that loss. PSU (7-1, 4-0) hosts the Illini (6-2, 2-2) after beating Northwestern 34-24. Penn State is the only undefeated team in the Leaders Division. Illinois is coming off two losses to Ohio State (17-7) and Purdue (21-14). The Nittany Lions dispensed with the Boilermakers 23-18 two games ago and f...

PSU Heads to Northwestern
Posted on 19 Oct 2011 by Stephanie Geosits.
Miraculously, Penn State has managed to compile a 6-1 record thus far, with its only loss coming against Alabama. It is somewhat unexpected considering the Nittany Lions lost their star receiver (Derek Moye) and are still doing the Quarterback Shuffle ™ more than halfway into the season, however, when you look at their opponents, only the Crimson Tide are anywhere to be seen in the Top 25...

Four QBs Slated for Purdue at PSU
Posted on 14 Oct 2011 by Stephanie Geosits.
The Paternos have found a kindred spirit in Boilermakers Head Coach Danny Hope. Purdue will play two quarterbacks, just as Penn State will, in Saturday's matchup. The Nittany Lions have eked out a 5-1 record so far this season while the Boilermakers come to Happy Valley 3-2 with losses to Rice and Notre Dame. Leading PSU receiver Derek Moye broke a bone in his foot this week in his apartmen...

PSU Tackles Iowa at Home
Posted on 7 Oct 2011 by Stephanie Geosits.
After an epic 16-10 win against juggernaut Indiana (gross exaggeration), the Nittany Lions (4-1, 1-0) come home to the friendly confines of Beaver Stadium for their Big Ten home opener against Iowa (3-1, 0-0). In the recent past, Iowa has been ranked and PSU has struggled to beat them. The Hawkeyes have won the last three and lead the overall series 12-11. Iowa isn't the team of old, however it...

Yes, Yogi, It’s Over
Posted on 7 Oct 2011 by Stephanie Geosits.
Game 5 of the ALDS did not turn out as the Yankees or their fans had hoped or expected, but when you leave 11 men stranded and can only score on a solo homer and a bases-loaded walk, you probably don't deserve to win anyway. Post-season magic was nowhere to be found in the Bronx as the Tigers defeated New York 3-2. The Yankees out-hit Detroit 10 to eight but certainly not when it mattered. Ivan...

PSU Opens Big 10 Season in Indy
Posted on 30 Sep 2011 by Stephanie Geosits.
Joe Paterno's 700th game on staff at Penn State will be spent in Indiana as the 3-1 Nittany Lions take on the 1-3 Hoosiers in the Big 10 opener. PSU won last year's contest at FedEx Field and hold a 14-0 overall series advantage. After beating Easter Michigan last week, 34-6, the Nittany Lions press on with their two QBs, Matt McGloin (34-54, 421 yds, 3 TD, 0 INT) and Rob Bolden (33-71, 388 yds...

Here Come the Yankees! There Went the Sox!
Posted on 30 Sep 2011 by Stephanie Geosits.
I'm not sure everyone is fully recovered from the shock of Wednesday night's season-ender, but alas the playoffs start today. First off, congratulations to the Rays, who hung in there and never gave up. Secondly, if the Red Sox and the Nation blame anyone but the team for that collapse they should be ashamed. Now, onto the ALDS, where the Yankees take on the one man show named Justin Verlander...

No QB? No Problem
Posted on 20 Sep 2011 by Stephanie Geosits.
For the coach of a 1-1 team, which came very close to starting out 0-2, Joe Paterno is unconcerned. The Nittany Lions' problems are multi-faceted, but just to recap: 2 Quarterbacks – Paternos Joe and Jay have yet to declare either Matt McGloin or Rob Bolden THE QB. Instead, they alternate between the two, seemingly with no rhyme or reason, not allowing either one to get in a rhythm nor le...

Mo Saves a Place in History
Posted on 20 Sep 2011 by Stephanie Geosits.
Mariano Rivera made quick work of the Minnesota Twins on Monday to notch the 602nd save of his career and write his name in the record books as the all-time saves leader. After tying Trevor Hoffman at 601 in Toronto on Saturday, Mo converted on his very next opportunity – an afternoon makeup game in the Bronx. With the Yankees' schedule, there was little question that Rivera would break t...

One Mo Save For the Record
Posted on 18 Sep 2011 by Stephanie Geosits.
With Saturday's save in Toronto, Mariano Rivera tied Trevor Hoffman for the all-time mark of 601. The Bombers are finally home after a 10-game road trip, and have eight games in the Bronx in seven days. Chances are Mo will get a save opportunity somewhere in familiar surroundings. Minnie stops by for a quick makeup game Monday, followed by four games with the Rays, including a doubleheader Wedn...
