I’d like to start off by thanking the NFL for making Week 17 games divisional. If they hadn’t, we wouldn’t have been able to see the “NFC West’s Lackluster Bowl” on Sunday Night Football. Just kidding—I really do believe that the change made the games more competitive.

Even though the Texans, Redskins, Cowboys and Lions had nothing on the line, they still showed up and played until the end. I wonder if the threat of a lockout gave the players a little extra motivation.

Anyway, the playoff matchups are set. Let’s take a look.

The NFL playoff picture looks a bit clearer after the Week 16 slate of games. We now know that the Tennessee Titans, San Francisco 49ers, San Diego Chargers and Oakland Raiders won’t be making an appearance in the postseason.

The Bears, Eagles and Falcons are all playoff locks in the NFC, joining the Patriots, Jets, Steelers, Ravens and Chiefs in the AFC.

The only divisions still up for grabs are the NFC West and the AFC South.

In a surprise move, NBC flexed the St. Louis Rams-Seattle Seahawks potential disaster to Sunday Night Football. I applaud the move because it’s the only game where both teams are competing for the division crown. On the other hand, with two unpredictable teams, as the Rams and Seahawks are, four quarters of quality football is no guarantee.

The only other games where both teams face playoff implications are Chicago vs. Green Bay and Tampa Bay vs. New Orleans.

It will be interesting to see how the early game results will affect the game plan of the playoff hopefuls in the late games.

Nonetheless, it’s been a fantastic NFL season, one that’s been completely and utterly unpredictable.

Week 16: 25-17 loss at St. Louis

I think it’s safe to say that the Niners won’t have a Smith starting at quarterback next season.

Next up: Arizona

Wow, could I care any less?

27. Tennessee Titans 6-9

Week 16: 20-10 loss to Baltimore

Colt McCoy looked like a deer in headlights against Ray Lewis and the Ravens defense. It’s pretty much guaranteed that Rob Ryan and Eric Mangini will both be gone next season.

19. Miami Dolphins 7-8

Previously Ranked: 19

Week 16: 34-27 loss to Detroit

The Dolphins are 1-7 at home and 6-1 on the road. Quite possibly the most confusing team in football.

18. Detroit Lions 5-10

Previously Ranked: 21

Very happy for Lions head coach Jim Schwartz. He’s done a wonderful job with subpar talent all season long.

Next up: Minnesota

Week 16: 25-17 win over San Francisco

It was just last week that I asked the question, has Sam Bradford hit the rookie wall? I think we have our answer. Sam completed 28 of 37 passes for 292 yards and one touchdown.

Next up: at Seattle

14. Jacksonville Jaguars 8-7

Previously Ranked: 12

Week 16: 45-17 loss at Green Bay

Previously Ranked: 16

Week 16: 38-15 win over Seattle

If the ’09 draft were today, I would take Josh Freeman over Matt Stafford and Mark Sanchez. Five freaking touchdowns! #guysgettinggood

11. New York Jets 10-5

Previously Ranked: 8

Week 16: 38-34 loss at Chicago

The Jets’ defense isn’t supposed to let down like this, especially not now. If Jay Cutler can pick ‘em apart, imagine what Peyton Manning, Tom Brady or Michael Vick would do.

I think a thank you card should be sent to the Redskins; their win over Jacksonville clinched a playoff berth for the Jets.

*For a foot joke, see Washington.

Next up: Buffalo

10. Indianapolis Colts 9-6

Previously Ranked: 11

Week 16: 31-26 win at Oakland

I wonder how many people lost fantasy games because Peyton Manning went to the ground instead of making it into the end zone late in the fourth quarter. Not sure what I’m talking about? Watch the video.

Too bad Matt Cassel has to battle Michael Vick for the Most Improved Player and Most Valuable Player awards. If Vick gets MVP, Cassel should get Most Improved.

Through 15 games: 251-of-417 for 3,001 yards, 27 touchdowns and five interceptions.

Next up: Oakland

8. Baltimore Ravens 11-4

Previously Ranked: 5

Week 16: 20-10 win at Cleveland

The Ravens are not a team I’d want to face in the playoffs. Ray Lewis has his defensive unit firing on all cylinders.

Next up: Cincinnati

7. Green Bay Packers 9-6

Previously Ranked: 9

Week 16: 45-17 win over New York Giants

The Packers won’t go away. Just when you thought the injuries had caught up to them, they go and destroy the New York football Giants.

Next up: Chicago

6. Pittsburgh Steelers 11-4

Previously Ranked: 4

Week 16: 27-3 win over Carolina

The Steelers are racking up wins at the same pace they are injuries. I wonder which is going to win out.

Next up: at Cleveland

5. New Orleans Saints 11-4

Previously Ranked: 6

Week 16: 17-14 win at Atlanta

The Saints are a different team with Pierre Thomas in the backfield. With that said, the Saints are approaching Super Bowl-caliber play.

Next up: Tampa Bay

4. Philadelphia Eagles 10-4

Previously Ranked: 2

Week 16: 24-14 loss to Minnesota

Michael Vick looked shell-shocked against the Vikings. He’s taking far too many hits at this point of the season. Now is when the team should be locking down the line and playing its best football of the year. Not exactly how things are going down though.

Next up: Dallas

3. Atlanta Falcons 12-3

Previously Ranked: 3

Week 16: 17-14 loss to New Orleans

It finally happened—the Falcons lost. All those who’ve been waiting for this moment can breathe easy. For the record, I’m breathing easy. I see the Falcons falling.

Next up: Carolina

2. Chicago Bears 11-4

Previously Ranked: 7

Week 16: 38-34 win over New York Jets

It’s tough to get on the Bears’ bandwagon only because they’ve had two mind-numbing losses, at the Giants and at home against the Patriots. Other than that, just aces.

Next up: at Green Bay

1. New England Patriots 13-2

Previously Ranked: 1

Week 16: 34-3 win at Buffalo

I can say with certainty that Tom Brady is better than Peyton Manning.

Next up: Miami

If I had to grade the performance of St. Louis Rams rookie quarterback Sam Bradford after 15 weeks, I’d give him a B-minus.

Bradford has carried the Rams to a place they couldn’t have gotten without him. Nobody in their right mind would have picked the Rams to be competitive this season, even though they play in the God-awful NFC West.

Through 14 games, Bradford’s thrown 17 touchdowns to only 12 interceptions, which is a very telling stat for a rook.

It says that he is competent enough not to make bad decisions with the ball, something the Rams have been missing since the days of Kurt Warner.

Let’s remember for a second that football on Saturday is much less physical than football on Sunday. Sam never played more than 14 games in a season in any of his three years at Oklahoma. His start against Kansas City was No. 14 of the year; plus, you have to add in the time he played in the preseason.

That said, his lackluster play of late is to be expected.

Here are a few stats for your viewing pleasure.

Games 1-5: Completed 56.6% of his passes, 6 TD, 8 INT, 69.64 QB rating.

Games 6-12: Completed 64.2% of his passes, 11 TD, 1 INT, 97.03 QB rating.

Games 13-15: Completed 53.4% of his passes, 0 TD, 5 INT, 53.4 QB rating.

The stats don’t lie. Say what you want about the anomaly we call Pat Shurmur, but the play-calling has consistently been bad all season. In my opinion, Bradford’s numbers shouldn’t be as good as they are, considering the lack of direction and talent he’s been given to work with.

He’s earned success in spite of those around him.

Only two games remain for the Rams. Postseason or not, it’s been one hell of a season for rookie Bradford.

Have we been fooled?

Have we been so mesmerized by the Rookie of the Year-caliber play of Sam Bradford that we somehow ignored the ineptitude of the rest of the team? I’ll admit, moments go by when I think Bradford can do just about anything, but then there are moments when he can’t do anything at all. It’s rather puzzling.

The Rams looked like they were ready to win a big one when they took the field. To start the game, they drove the ball inside the Chiefs‘ 20-yard line in a shade over eight minutes, only to have the drive halted by back-to-back false starts. Long drives that result in field goals will not get this team to the playoffs.

The opening drive was the highlight of the game for the Rams on both sides of the ball. Offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur did a brilliant job of moving Bradford in and out of the pocket to avoid pressure. He used gimmick plays and, most effectively, the no-huddle.

But the progression of the offense stopped there. The Rams were out-coached, out-manned, out-played in the 27-13 loss. Matt Cassel escaped pressure at every turn. If the Rams came inside, he moved outside, and vice-versa.

I’m rather disappointed by the fact that he stayed as upright as he did. You would have thought that coach Spagnuolo would have sent the house every chance he had in hopes of knocking Cassel out of the game, but that wasn’t the case at all. The Rams defense allowed Cassel to find eight different receivers on only 15 completions.

And don’t even get me started on Jamaal Charles and his 126 yards on 11 carries. It seemed as though he was carrying a flesh-eating disease with the way Rams were defending him.

Overall, it was a rather disgusting performance, one that I hope to soon forget.

Even though the Rams lost another one, their playoff hopes are hardly kaput. A 6-8 record buys them one of two things by Sunday’s end.

1. Tied w/ Seattle (SEA) at 6-8, owning the head-to-head tiebreaker

2. Trailing SEA by one game, with the season finale in SEA

Things could be worse, right? Get ready now, I’m about to show you the silver lining in all of this. If the Rams miss the postseason, they’ll have a better shot at drafting a play-making deep threat at receiver in the first round.

Would you rather see Julio Jones catching touchdown bombs from Sam Bradford next season, or see Brandon Gibson catch a 3-yard screen on 3rd-and-11 in the first round of the playoffs?

When choosing your answer, do something Pat Shurmur and the Rams have failed to do all season.Think long term.

Four teams have clinched a spot in the playoffs. The Bears, Patriots, Steelers and Falcons can rest easier now that their fates are sealed. All that’s left to play for is playoff seeding to see who gets home-field advantage.

You won’t see many changes this week as there weren’t many surprises. Hopefully, the parity we’ve come to love and expect will return in Week 16.

32. Denver Broncos 3-11

Previously Ranked: 32

Week 15: 39-23 loss at Oakland

Tim Tebow accounted for 216 of the Broncos 235 yards in his first career start. What happens if the Broncos end up with the top pick? They draft ANOTHER quarterback?

Next up: Houston

31. Arizona Cardinals 4-10

Previously Ranked: 28

Week 15: 19-12 loss at Carolina

I think the only way Larry Fitzgerald stays in AZ next season is if they can somehow secure the top pick in the draft. #needsomeluck

Next up: Dallas on Saturday on the NFL Network

30. Carolina Panthers 2-12

Previously Ranked: 31

Week 15: 19-12 win over Arizona

Nice to see the Panthers win what will end up being John Fox’s last home game. He had a great run in Carolina.

Next up: at Pittsburgh on Thursday Night Football on the NFL Network

I wonder if Jimmy Clausen likes the taste of dirt.

29. Washington Redskins 5-9

Previously Ranked: 26

Week 15: 33-30 loss at Dallas

Sexy Rexy Grossman threw for 322 yards and a career-high four touchdowns in his first start as a Redskin. Who needs Donovan McNabb?

Next up: at Jacksonville

‘Skins can only play spolier at this point.

28. Cincinnati Bengals 3-11

Previously Ranked: 29

Week 15: 19-17 win over Cleveland

Coincidence that Terrell Owens is suddenly out for the season just a few days after his outburst? I think not. The Bengals may have just played their way out of the top pick in the draft. #niceworkmarvin

Next up: San Diego

27. Tennessee Titans 6-8

Previously Ranked: 30

Week 15: 31-17 win over Houston

Finally a sign of life!

Next up: at Kansas City

Chris Johnson and Jamaal Charles= Awesomeness

26. Houston Texans 5-9

Previously Ranked: 22

Week 15: 31-17 win at Tennessee

The Texans’ D is the worst I’ve ever seen.

Next up: at Denver

Gary Kubiak should get used to being in Denver because I’m getting the feeling that he’ll be there full-time next year.

25. San Francisco 49ers 5-9

Previously Ranked: 24

Week 15: 34-7 loss at San Diego

The Niners lackluster performance on Thursday Night football has them in a pretty deep hole with the playoffs approaching. Not good news for Jed York’s playoff guarantee.

Next up: at St. Louis

24. Seattle Seahawks 6-8

Previously Ranked: 23

Week 15: 34-18 loss to Atlanta

Sick to think the Seahawks can host a home playoff game if they can close out the division.

Next up: at Tampa Bay

23. St. Louis Rams 6-8

Previously Ranked: 17

Week 15: 27-13 loss to Kansas City

Sam Bradford has hit the wall. In the past three games he’s thrown zero touchdowns and five interceptions.

For more on Sam Bradford: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/547773-nfl-week-15-has-st-louis-rams-qb-sam-bradford-hit-the-rookie-wall

Next up: San Francisco

I cannot believe this game actually matters. What a joke the NFC West has become.

22. Cleveland Browns 5-9

Previously Ranked: 18

Week 15: 19-17 loss at Cincinnati

“Last year Eric Mangini saved his job with four wins in December. After back to back losses to the Bills and Bengals, this December appears to be the thing that will lose him his job.”

-Matt Loede from www.NFLGridironGab.com

Next up: Baltimore

21. Detroit Lions 4-10

Previously Ranked: 27

Week 15: 23-20 OT win at Tampa Bay

Drew Stanton was 23-for-37 for 252 yards with one touchdown and a 91.3 QB rating. The Lions have three different quarterbacks put up solid numbers this season. Jim Schwartz is really doing a great job.

Next up: Miami

20. Buffalo Bills 4-10

Previously Ranked: 25

Week 15: 17-14 win at Miami

I’ll say it now for anyone who wants to listen. Ryan Fitzpatrick should be the Bills’ starting quarterback next season. He’s earned it.

Next up: New England

Playing for pride.

19. Miami Dolphins 7-7

Previously Ranked: 20

Week 15: 17-14 loss to Buffalo

The league’s best road team is also the worst home team. Figure that out. #icant

Next up: Detroit

The game is in Miami, of course they’re going to lose.

18. Minnesota Vikings 5-9

Previously Ranked: 19

Week 15: 40-14 loss to Chicago

This is what I said to a buddy when I found out Favre was playing: “Telling you this right now. This is Favre’s ride off into the sunset. He’ll go down with an injury after getting pounded to the hard ground then leave the game on his high horse with hero treatment.”

Next up: at Philadelphia

Need a big game from Mike Vick in my fantasy finals. Come on Vikes! Mail in it!

17. Dallas Cowboys 5-9

Previously Ranked: 16

Week 15: 33-30 win over Washington

Jason Garrett has done everything he can to secure the Cowboys job for at least another season. On a side note, the defense needs to be better.

Next up: at Arizona on Saturday Night football on the NFL Network

16. Tampa Bay Buccaneers 8-6

Previously Ranked: 15

Week 15: 23-20 OT loss to Detroit

Tampa’s season went down the tubes thanks to Sunday’s loss to the Lions. It’s over! For the record, LeGarrette Blount is a beast.

Next up: Seattle

The Bucs should be in the thick of the playoff race, not Seattle.

15. Oakland Raiders 7-7

Previously Ranked: 21

Week 15: 39-23 win over Denver

Darren McFadden with another game over 100 yards. He’s gotta win the NFL’s “Most Improved player” award, if there is such a thing.

Next up: Indianapolis

If the Raiders keep winning there’s still hope for the playoffs. If they don’t, well you know.

14. Kansas City Chiefs 9-5

Previously Ranked: 14

Week 15: 27-13 win at St. Louis

Matt Cassel is one tough dude. Played through a lot of pain in a must-win for the Chiefs.

Next up: Tennessee

13. Jacksonville Jaguars 8-6

Previously Ranked: 11

Week 15: 34-24 loss at Indianapolis

Maurice Jones-Drew finally came back down to earth after going over 100 yards in six straight. He’s better than the 46 yards he accrued against the Colts.

Next up: Washington

12. New York Giants 9-5

Previously Ranked: 8

Week 15: 38-31 loss to Philadelphia

Oh man, what can I even say? I was kind of hoping for a Dennis Green-like tirade from Tom Coughlin.

“Desean Jackson is who we thought he was!”

Next up: at Green Bay

The season is lost with a loss.

11. Indianapolis Colts 8-6

Previously Ranked: 13

Week 15: 34-24 win over Jacksonville

Austin Collie is really good……..at getting concussed. Sunday’s concussion is his third of the season. I have no idea how the NFL ever lets him back on the field. #poorguy

Next up: at Oakland

The Colts will have problems with Darren McFadden, I guarantee it.

10. Green Bay Packers 8-6

Previously Ranked: 7

Week 15: 31-27 loss to New England

Matt Flynn played well considering the circumstances. Too bad that isn’t going to get them into the playoffs.

Next up: New York Giants

Postseason hopes on the line in this contest.

9. San Diego Chargers 8-6

Previously Ranked: 12

Week 15: 34-7 win over San Francisco

Vincent Jackson re-introduced himself to the world on Thursday night finding the end zone three times. He said he isn’t against re-signing with the Bolts in the offseason, but will they even want him?

Next up: at Cincinnati

8. New York Jets 10-4

Previously Ranked: 10

Week 15: 22-17 win at Pittsburgh

Am I the only one who thinks the Jets are overrated?

Next up: at Chicago

Very big game for the J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS!

7. Chicago Bears 10-4

Previously Ranked: 6

Week 15: 40-14 win at Minnesota

Huge win for the Bears! Clinched a playoff spot, plus, Devin Hester broke the career record for most run-backs for a touchdown; all around a great night for the Bears.

Next up: New York Jets

6. New Orleans Saints 10-4

Previously Ranked: 5

Week 15: 30-24 loss at Baltimore

To contrary belief, Joe Flacco is NOT a franchise quarterback; and the fact that Ray Rice and Co. ran for over 200 yards is a sign that problems exist in the front four.

And while we’re on the topic of non-franchise players, how about Reggie Bush. What a bust! Guy avoids contact more than Monk.

Next up: at Atlanta on Monday Night Football

Might end up being the best game of the year.

5. Baltimore Ravens 10-4

Previously Ranked: 9

Week 15: 30-24 win over New Orleans

The win over the defending champs is easily their most impressive this season. New Orleans had been red-hot heading into the Week 15 matchup.

Next up: at Cleveland

4. Pittsburgh Steelers 10-4

Previously Ranked: 4

Week 15: 22-17 loss to New York Jets

The Steelers need to get healthy immediately. Defense is a shell of itself without Troy Polamalu.

Next up: Carolina on Thursday Night Football

3. Atlanta Falcons 12-2

Previously Ranked: 2

Week 15: 34-18 win at Seattle

In Matt Ryan I trust.

Next up: New Orleans on Monday Night Football

Can’t afford to let one slip by, home-field advantage is a necessity.

2. Philadelphia Eagles 10-4

Previously Ranked: 3

Week 15: 38-31 win at New York Giants

Tom Brady is great and all, but Michael Vick should win the MVP. #justsayin

Next up: Minnesota on Sunday Night Football

1. New England Patriots 12-2

Previously Ranked: 1

Week 15: 31-27 win over Green Bay

Devin McCourty is my defensive Rookie of the Year.

Next up: at Buffalo

The Brady Bunch should take it easy the next two weeks. #buttheywont

Week 15 power rankings for the 2010 NFL regular season are here.

Many changes have been made with teams falling and rising as this NFL season has seen week in and week out.

Without further delay, here are the updates for the Week 15 NFL power rankings.

32. Denver Broncos 3-10

Previously Ranked: 29

Week 14: 43-14 loss at Arizona

How good can Tim Tebow really be? Kyle Orton completed less than 50% of his passes and threw three picks while the chosen one held the clipboard.

Next up: at Oakland

Denver has nothing to play for at this point. Reason enough for me not to pay attention.

31. Carolina Panthers 1-12

Previously Ranked: 31

Week 14: 31-10 loss to Atlanta

The Panthers rushed for 212 yards in the game. Pretty good ‘eh? Too bad they only had 288 total yards on the day. #toobadsosad

Next up: Arizona

If I were the Panthers, I’d bring back Brian St. Pierre back to start the remainder of the season under center. At least that way they’re pretty much guaranteed to get Luck-y.

30. Tennessee Titans 5-8

Previously Ranked: 30

Week 14: 30-28 loss to Indianapolis

The season’s over for the Titans. The Jeff Fischer era may be over as well. Nice to see Chris Johnson back over 100 yards for the first time since Week 11.

Next up: Houston

I hope Randy Moss holds his head in shame when he cashes his ginormous paychecks. #richguywhosucks

29. Cincinnati Bengals 2-11

Previously Ranked: 27

Week 14: 23-7 loss at Pittsburgh

This is what Terrell Owens had to say following the game:

“I can’t throw the ball to myself. I can’t do anything else. All I can do is go with the plays that are called and just hope I get some opportunities.”

Who had Week 14 in the Terrell Owens blowup pool? #BIGWINNER

Next up: Cleveland

28. Arizona Cardinals 4-9

Previously Ranked: 32

Week 14: 43-14 win over Denver

Hopefully Tim Hightower’s 148 yards and two scores will provide enough motivation for the Cards to give up on the oft-injured Beanie Wells.

Next up: at Carolina

Arizona is within a stone’s throw of the lead in the NFC West. This game actually matters, which is kind of ridiculous.

27. Detroit Lions 3-10

Previously Ranked: 28

Week 14: 7-3 win over Green Bay

What if somehow the Lions end up with the league’s worst record and the number one pick? What do they do? Get Lucky? Pull a Matt Millen and draft another wideout? That would be quite the predicament.

Next up: at Tampa Bay

Two words: No chance.

26. Washington Redskins 5-8

Previously Ranked: 26

Week 14: 17-16 loss to Tampa Bay

The ‘Skins left seven points on the field in the form of two missed, short, field goals and a botched extra point attempt in the final seconds. According to Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com, Mike Shanahan’s seat warmer has been turned on. That’s not a good sign for Donovan McNabb. No way he stays if Shanny goes.

Next up: at Dallas

I’m willing to bet the farm the Redskins lose by 20.

25. Buffalo Bills 3-10

Previously Ranked: 25

Week 14: 13-6 win over Cleveland

Fred Jackson and the Bills ground game rushed for 192 yards in Sunday’s win over Cleveland. As a team the Browns only had 187 total yards. #epicfail

Next up: at Miami

I’d like Buffalo and the under please.

24. San Francisco 49ers 5-8

Previously Ranked: 24

Week 14: 40-21 win over Seattle

What a huge win for the 49ers! The two teams they’re chasing (STL, SEA) both lost which leaves them only one game back of the top spot in the NFC West.

Next up: at San Diego

Alex Smith will have his hands full with arguably the top defense in the league.

23. Seattle Seahawks 6-7

Previously Ranked: 23

Week 14: 40-21 loss at San Francisco

Just how bad are the Seahawks? They’ve given up 30 or more in six games this season, all losses. #thatshowbad

Next up: Atlanta

Make it seven games they’ve given up 30 or more. This one won’t be close.

22. Houston Texans 5-8

Previously Ranked: 22

Week 14: 34-28 loss to Baltimore

How many days till Kubiak gets the axe? I set the over/under at 30 days and I want the under.

Next up: at Tennessee

21. Oakland Raiders 6-7

Previously Ranked: 21

Week 14: 38-31 loss at Jacksonville

The Raiders missed a chance to capitalize on the Chiefs misfortune of losing Matt Cassel for a few weeks. Inconsistent football has been killing the Raiders all season. Hope for the playoffs is no more.

Next up: Denver

I’m setting the over/under for Darren McFadden rushing yards at 125, and you’d better believe I’m taking the over.

20. Miami Dolphins 7-6

Previously Ranked: 20

Week 14: 10-6 win at New York Jets

Chad Henne and Co. were out-gained 280-131 but they didn’t let that stop them from winning thanks to three Jets’ turnovers. The Dolphins have now won six games on the road to only one at home. #WTF

Next up: Buffalo

Odds are not in favor of a Miami victory.

19. Minnesota Vikings 5-8

Previously Ranked: 19

Week 14: 21-3 loss at Minnesota in Detroit

Since when did the NFL’s iron man become a figurehead for a bad team? Please send Brett Favre home ASAP.

Next up: Chicago

The only way the Vikes win this game is if they can somehow make the dome collapse on the Bears. Yeah I said it!

18. Cleveland Browns 5-8

Previously Ranked: 18

Week 14: 13-6 loss at Buffalo

Where’s Colt McCoy when you need him? He’s 2-3 as a starter with wins over New England and New Orleans by a combined 33 points. Jake Delhomme is no longer a starter in this league. I would have thought the Mangenious would have recognized that by now. There’s gotta be someone better than him that can hand the ball off 35 times.

Next up: at Cincinnati

The outcome hinges on who starts at quarterback for the Browns. McCoy=win, Delhomme=loss.

17. St. Louis Rams 6-7

Previously Ranked: 17

Week 14: 31-13 loss at New Orleans

This loss truly means nothing. The Rams still lead the NFC West because of the tiebreaker edge they hold over Seattle. Odds are these two teams meet again in the first round of the playoffs, except this time the game will be played in St. Louis.

Next up: Kansas City

The Chiefs are a one dimensional team when Matt Cassel isn’t under center. All the Rams need to do in order to win this game is stop Jamaal Charles.

16. Dallas Cowboys 4-9

Previously Ranked: 16

Week 14: 30-27 loss to Philadelphia

Jason Garrett has proven himself worthy. I’d be shocked if he isn’t the head coach come next season.

Next up: Washington

15. Tampa Bay Buccaneers 8-5

Previously Ranked: 15

Week 14: 17-16 win at Washington

For a while it seemed like neither team wanted to win the game. The Bucs were lucky that the ‘Skins left two field goals and one extra point on the field. Raheem Morris needs to get his boys amped up for the playoff run soon or there won’t be one at all.

Next up: Detroit

A meeting of once familiar foes.

14. Kansas City Chiefs 8-5

Previously Ranked: 8

Week 14: 31-0 loss at San Diego

Jamaal Charles needs to be better than the season low he put up against San Diego

Next up: at St. Louis

13. Indianapolis Colts 7-6

Previously Ranked: 14

Week 14: 30-28 win at Tennessee

Peyton Manning gave his naysayers a collective FU by throwing for 319 yards and two touchdowns.

Next up: Jacksonville

The biggest game of the Colts season comes against the Jaguars. Does that say more about the Colts or the Jags?

12. San Diego Chargers 7-6

Previously Ranked: 13

Week 14: 31-0 win over Kansas City

This wasn’t a fair fight. Not even a little bit. Now is when the Chargers make their run.

Next up: San Francisco

I predict the Chargers will be top dogs in the AFC West after this week.

11. Jacksonville Jaguars 8-5

Previously Ranked: 12

Week 14: 38-31 win over Oakland

Maurice Jones-Drew rushed for over 100 yards for the sixth straight week. On a side note, backup running back Rashad Jennings is not to be messed with–unless you want two running backs to punch it for over 100 yards. #pickyourpoison

Next up: at Indianapolis

The biggest game of the season for both parties.

10. New York Jets 9-4

Previously Ranked: 10

Week 14: 10-6 loss to Miami

The Jets are an embarrassment to the league. Don’t really have anything else to say.

Next up: at Pittsburgh

Instead of firing Sal Alosi like they should have, they suspended him for the rest of the season. That said, the Jets are once again the most hated team in the NFL. All the good press Hard Knocks brought them is now gone with the wind.

9. Baltimore Ravens 9-4

Previously Ranked: 11

Week 14: 34-28 win over Houston

Attn Ravens fans:

Joe Flacco looked like a deer in headlights when the game was on the line. The Ravens may have nine wins, but I still think they’re in trouble.

Next up: New Orleans

8. New York Giants 9-4

Previously Ranked: 9

Week 14: 21-3 win at Minnesota in Detroit

The Giants gained 213 yards on the ground for a 7.6 yards per carry average. If they can keep that up they’ll be unstoppable.

Next up: Philadelphia

I take that back, the Giants could rush for over 200 yards and still lose. That’s how good the Eagles are.

7. Green Bay Packers 8-5

Previously Ranked: 7

Week 14: 7-3 loss at Detroit

Mr. Rodgers may not know where his neighborhood is after the concussion he suffered in Sunday’s game. The Pack will struggle immensely if he’s out for a long period of time. #helpwanted

Next up: at New England

I don’t even want to imagine what the Patriots would do to an Aaron Rodgers-less Packer team.

6. Chicago Bears 9-4

Previously Ranked: 4

Week 14: 36-7 loss to New England

One word comes to mind: abomination. Da Bears have been a lackluster football team at home, something that needs to change for them to make a run to the postseason.

Next up: at Minnesota on Monday Night Football

How cool would it have been to see the MetroDOOM roof collapse while the game was going on, players running for cover, fans screaming in terror, snow falling everywhere. OK maybe it isn’t that funny. #butidigress

5. New Orleans Saints 10-3

Previously Ranked: 5

Week 14: 31-13 win over St. Louis

I hope the Saints took notes because this matchup is likely to happen again in the postseason.

Next up: at Baltimore

With the way the Saints are playing the Ravens don’t stand to fare very well. #overratedravens

4. Pittsburgh Steelers 10-3

Previously Ranked: 3

Week 14: 23-7 win over Cincinnati

Big Ben is going to get killed if the line doesn’t start doing a better job–injuries or not.

Next up: New York Jets

3. Philadelphia Eagles 9-4

Previously Ranked: 6

Week 14: 30-27 win at Dallas

Anyone notice the large chip that’s growing on the shoulder of Mike Vick? All the cheap-shot hits he’s taken are starting to wear on him

Next up: at New York Giants

The Eagles are 5-1 over the last six games and have racked up at least 25 points in each. That’s fairly impressive.

2. Atlanta Falcons 11-2

Previously Ranked: 2

Week 14: 31-10 win at Carolina

Another solid performance from the Falcons. I’ve been waiting for them to slip but it doesn’t seem like it’s going to happen anytime soon, unless they have to play in Pennsylvania where they are 0-2.

Next up: at Seattle

Part of me thinks this is a trap game because it’s being played in Seattle. I should know better though after seeing how bad the Seahawks played against San Fran.

1. New England Patriots 11-2

Previously Ranked: 1

Week 14: 36-7 win at Chicago

I’m going to go out on a limb for a second so bare with me. I truly believe that Tom Brady is playing better because he has long hair. OK stop judging for a minute and hear me out. Brady has always been the every-man’s quarterback. He’s won three super bowls, a super model wife, and I’m sure a boat load of other super things too. Over the years it’s been difficult to find faults in him off the field or on it. But for one reason or another the world has become infatuated with his “Justin Bieber” haircut. He seems to be taking the criticism personally because why else would he keep an ugly mop on his head?

#Ibetyoudontagree

Next up: Green Bay on Sunday Night Football

Game means less to New England than it does to Green Bay.

Is it bad to laugh at the fact that this may be a first round matchup in the playoffs? The New Orleans Saints versus the NFC West winning St. Louis Rams. Come on, that’s pure comedy! The Sam Bradford led Rams have already equaled the number of games (six) won in the three years P.B., or pre-Bradford. Who would’ve thought? Nobody at ESPN that’s for sure.

This game is not a must-win for the Rams, it’s a must-learn. Steve Spagnuolo should take the entire 60 minute game to size-up the Saints. Learn everything about them. Run things they haven’t seen before, on offense and defense. Confuse, confuse, confuse.

If the Rams are serious about making a run in the playoffs, they’re going to need the Spagnuolo special in order to do so. Remember the defensive game-plan he engineered against the Patriots in Super Bowl XLll? Yeah, just like that.

Eight games are plenty to win the NFC West. That means the Rams just need to win two of their final four, at New Orleans, Kansas City, San Francisco, at Seattle, to reach game No. 17.

In my opinion, there’s no reason to make the playoffs if they are just going to get blown out.

If they’re going to lose to the Saints it should be now, not in January. Winning the West means home-field in the first round. The Rams at home with the Spagnuolo special would be tough to beat.

On a side note, I’d like to take a moment to wish everyone a very happy holiday season.

Keys to the Game:

Be physical with Saints’ receivers

The Rams’ secondary has been burned badly in more than a few games this season. Sure they’ve been decimated by injuries, but is that really an excuse for allowing Troy Smith to put up 356 on you? Believe me, it’s not.

Drew Brees and the Saints have the third ranked passing offense in the NFL, averaging close to 291 yards a game. And Brees isn’t even at his best. He’s thrown 16 picks this year, five more than he threw all of last season and there are still four games to play. The guy is good, but he’ll make mistakes.

Marques Colston, Lance Moore and Robert Meachem have all had their share of drops this season. If the Rams’ secondary can play physical, it’ll go straight to their heads. Speed receivers don’t like contact. They like open-space. I say hit ‘em early and often.

Win the turnover battle

Through 16 games:

Rams: plus five Giveaway/Takeaway

Saints: minus four G/T

The only way the Rams win this game is if they can steal possessions from the Saints. The only way to stop Drew Brees is to take the ball out of his hands.

Chances need to be taken, often.

Stat of the day: New Orleans’ defense ranks first in passing touchdowns against (eight), and somehow they rank last the league in interceptions (seven). Try to make sense of that.

Here’s something you can make sense of–my game plan.

The Saints’ defense is 21st in the league in rushing touchdowns against (11). Seeing as they don’t give up scores in the air, the ground seems the way to go. Get Steven Jackson going early in the game. Establish him as the vehicle for victory. The Saints will struggle to stop him and be forced to put eight in the box. When that happens, bombs away with Bradford.

Next up: Kansas City

Well I think it’s safe to say we have a clear-cut favorite to win the NFL MVP. Can it really be anyone other than Tom Brady? In the past four games he’s thrown 13 touchdowns and zero interceptions. The guy is a freak of nature.

The MVP may be clear but the standings are murkier than ever. Only one of the eight division leaders has a lead of two games or more. The other seven divisions are either tied or separated by one game. That’s going to make for great football down the stretch.

Three huge games to watch in Week 14:

New England at Chicago

The Bears have nine wins and even more naysayers. This is their chance to show the rest of the league they can win big games against the best.

St. Louis at New Orleans

If the Rams don’t win the West, they’ll win a lottery pick. The Saints are playing for home-field advantage. They need all the wins they can gather down the stretch so a playoff game in Atlanta doesn’t happen.

Kansas City at San Diego

The Chargers are playing for their season in Week 14. If KC wins, all they have to do is hold off the Raiders and they’ll rush their way into the playoffs.

And now what you’ve all been waiting for: The greatest Week 14 Power Rankings in the history of the world. #YeahISaidIt

32. Arizona Cardinals 3-9

Previously Ranked: 32

Week 13: 19-6 loss to St. Louis

The Cards went through three different quarterbacks in the loss to the Rams. I feel confident in saying that the quarterback of the future is not currently on Arizona’s roster. They’d best get cracking on that ASAP.

What’s the over/under on number of days until Larry Fitzgerald demands a trade? I set the number at 80 days. Please share your thoughts in the comments section.

Next up: Denver

With all the instability within the Broncos right now, a win here isn’t inconceivable.

31. Carolina Panthers 1-11

Previously Ranked: 31

Week 13: 31-14 loss at Seattle

If I were a free agent running back I wouldn’t sign with Carolina. All four RBs on the roster have missed games due to injury this season. Something has to be up for that to keep happening.

Kind of hard to win games when your quarterback is clueless and your tailbacks are all banged up. Those two things don’t mix well.

Next up: Does it really matter?

30. Tennessee Titans 5-7

Previously Ranked: 30

Week 13: 17-6 loss to Jacksonville

Randy Moss doesn’t look like he belongs in the league anymore. He’s slow, careless, selfish, emotionless and best of all, worthless to all.

Next up: Indianapolis on Thursday Night Football

The Colts are banged up no doubt, but let’s be real here–the Titans don’t stand a chance.

29. Denver Broncos 3-9

Previously Ranked: 28

Week 13: 10-6 loss at Kansas City

Josh McDaniels? More like Josh McDONEials.

Next up: at Arizona

The battle of who cares.

28. Detroit Lions 2-10

Previously Ranked: 29

Week 13: 24-20 loss to Chicago

The Lions have lost three games this season because of poor officiating. That really sucks.

Next up: Green Bay

27. Cincinnati Bengals 2-10

Previously Ranked: 27

Week 13: 34-30 loss to New Orleans

Two things you can count on from the Bengals: 1. Carson Palmer will suck inside two minutes in the fourth quarter. 2. A defensive implosion with the game on the line. Poor Marvin Lewis. The poor guy can’t catch a break.

Next up: Pittsburgh

How brutal is this? The Bengals final four games are as follows: at Pittsburgh, Cleveland, San Diego, at Baltimore. #Ouch

26. Washington Redskins 5-7

Previously Ranked: 24

Week 13: 31-7 loss at New York Giants

Donovan McNabb looks like he’s checked out. Maybe he should, they need to save him for next season.

Next up: Tampa Bay

Josh Freeman reminds me a lot of Donovan McNabb. Agree? Respond in comments section.

25. Buffalo Bills 2-10

Previously Ranked: 20

Week 13: 38-14 loss at Minnesota

Gonna make this quick. No team can lose four fumbles and win. The Bills moved one step closer to Andrew Luck.

Next up: Cleveland

24. San Francisco 49ers 4-8

Previously Ranked: 26

Week 13: 34-16 loss at Green Bay

Troy Smith needs to complete more than 40% of his passes if the Niners expect to win games without Frank Gore. He was pretty awful against the Pack.

Next up: Seattle

One more loss and the season is officially over. Pretty sad that I’m saying that about a 4-8 team. #NFCWORST

23. Seattle Seahawks 6-6

Previously Ranked: 25

Week 13: 31-14 win over Carolina

Marshawn Lynch returned from obscurity to score three touchdowns on the ground. If the ‘Hawks can get their run game going down the stretch, I’d watch out.

Next up: at San Francisco

22. Houston Texans 5-7

Previously Ranked: 22

Week 13: 34-24 loss at Philadelphia

Gary Kubiak needs to be fired and replaced with a defensive-minded coach. Until that happens the Texans won’t be taken seriously.

Next up: Baltimore on Monday Night Football

21. Oakland Raiders 6-6

Previously Ranked: 23

Week 13: 28-13 win at San Diego

Big win for Tom Cable’s job security.

Next up: at Jacksonville

The Raiders can only play spoiler at this point. Not much of a chance of them making the postseason.

20. Miami Dolphins 6-6

Previously Ranked: 17

Week 13: 13-10 loss to Cleveland

You think the Dolphins need a quarterback? Chad Henne blew this one all by himself. He threw his third interception of the day inside the one-minute mark of fourth quarter with the game tied. Shortly after, the game became un-tied.

Miami has lost seven of their past eight home games and are a piss-poor 1-5 this season.

Next up: at New York Jets

The only thing the Dolphins have going for them is a 5-1 record on the road.

19. Minnesota Vikings 5-7

Previously Ranked: 21

Week 13: 38-14 win over Buffalo

Favre suffered a technical knockout early on but it didn’t stop Adrian Peterson and Sydney Rice reaching the end zone a combined fives times. The Vikings should ask for an in-season move to Los Angeles which would put them in the NFC West, where they’d be the class of the division.

Next up: New York Giants

Does anybody really care if Brett Favre plays again this season?

18. Cleveland Browns 5-7

Previously Ranked: 18

Week 13: 13-10 win at Miami

Just my luck Ben Watson catches ten balls for 100 yards and a touchdown the week I don’t start him. #rigged

The win fell into their lap, not much more to say.

Next up: at Buffalo

The Browns will win this game and move one step closer to .500 for the season. #writethatdown

17. St. Louis Rams 6-6

Previously Ranked: 16

Week 13: 19-6 win at Arizona

The Rams are back at .500 and on top of the NFC West. That’s freaking scary. New Rams’ owner Stan Kroenke must think Sam Bradford is worth every penny.

Next up: at New Orleans

Not a winnable game for the Rams. #justsayin

16. Dallas Cowboys 4-8

Previously Ranked: 19

Week 13: 38-35 OT win at Indianapolis

Since Jason Garrett took over, the Cowboys are 3-1 and haven’t scored less than 30 points in any of the four games. That’s a great building block if I’ve ever seen one.

Next up: Philadelphia on Sunday Night Football

Not sure the Cowboys will have an answer for Mike Vick.

15. Tampa Bay Buccaneers 7-5

Previously Ranked: 14

Week 13: 28-24 loss to Atlanta

The baby Bucs played like babies late in the fourth quarter against the Falcons. Want to know how long it takes to blow a season? The Bucs did it in about seven minutes.

Next up: at Washington

I hope the Bucs wear the creamsicles again.

14. Indianapolis Colts 6-6

Previously Ranked: 13

Week 13: 38-35 OT loss to Dallas

Poor Peyton Manning. Eleven picks in the last three games. Not good my friend. What is good is the fact that the Colts are only one game back of the Jaguars for the top spot in the AFC South.

Next up: at Tennessee

Hell will freeze over if Peyton throws three or more picks in this one. You heard it here first. #writethatdowntoo

13. San Diego Chargers 6-6

Previously Ranked: 8

Week 13: 28-13 loss to Oakland

Just when we thought the Chargers had turned it around they blow a monster game against the Raiders. So much for Norv Turner being undefeated in the month of December.

Next up: Kansas City

San Diego gave up 251 yards on the ground to the Raiders. And guess what? Jamaal Charles and Tom Jones are coming to town. They could put up 350 no questions asked.

12. Jacksonville Jaguars 7-5

Previously Ranked: 15

Week 13: 17-6 win at Tennessee

The Jags are 5-1 when Maurice Jones-Drew runs for 100 yards or more. He’s gone over 100 in five straight. If the Jags win the division, MJD should be in the conversation for MVP, right?

Next up: Oakland

11. Baltimore Ravens 8-4

Previously Ranked: 3

Week 13: 13-10 loss to Pittsburgh

Attn: Ray Rice

Joe Flacco cannot carry the team by himself. Please help ASAP. Thanks.

Next up: at Houston

The Ravens could struggle defending against Arian Foster, but then again, who hasn’t?

10. New York Jets 9-3

Previously Ranked: 5

Week 13: 45-3 loss at New England

Did the Jets finally show their true colors? Over the past few week they showed they were good enough to squeak past bad teams, but we learned Monday Night that the buck stops there.

#NeedsImprovementNOW

Next up: Miami

The Dolphins aren’t a bad team when playing on the road. Rex Ryan can’t afford to let another one slip away.

9. New York Giants 8-4

Previously Ranked: 12

Week 13: 31-7 win over Washington

It clearly doesn’t matter who starts the game at running back for the Giants. Against the ‘Skins the unit rush for over 197 yards and had four scores. #NicelyDone

Next up: at Minnesota

If you believe in trap games, this is definitely one of them. The Vikings have won back-to-back games under interim head coach Leslie Frazier. Giants need to be careful not to slip up in Minny.

8. Kansas City Chiefs 8-4

Previously Ranked: 11

Week 13: 10-6 win over Denver

Dwayne Bowe pulled a disappearing act in the win over the Broncos. Figured I’d throw that out there since that’s been his M.O. in seasons past.

Next up: at San Diego

7. Green Bay Packers 8-4

Previously Ranked: 10

Week 13: 34-16 win over San Francisco

Aaron Rodgers has scored 12 touchdowns in the past four weeks. Can we please have multiple MVPs this year?

Next up: at Detroit

Here the Pack has a chance to take advantage of the Bears’ tough schedule. I’ll take at Detroit over home vs. New England any day of the week.

6. Philadelphia Eagles 8-4

Previously Ranked: 8

Week 13: 34-24 win over Houston

Mike Vick did it again. He finished with 350 total yards and three scores. #MVP?

Next up: at Dallas on Sunday Night Football

5. New Orleans Saints 9-3

Previously Ranked: 6

Week 13: 34-30 win at Cincinnati

Sean Peyton has big balls. Great call to go for it on fourth and two when a field goal would have sent it to overtime. Shows how much faith he has in the Sportsman of the Year.

Next up: St. Louis

4. Chicago Bears 9-3

Previously Ranked: 7

Week 13: 24-20 win at Detroit

It’s nice to finally see that Earl Bennett wasn’t a waste of a draft pick. Seven catches for 104 yards on eight targets is pretty impressive. What’s also impressive was the Bears’ conversion rate on third down–55%.

Next up: New England

If you live in a box you probably haven’t heard that this game was flexed to a 4:15PM EST start. Now we see what the Bears defense is really made of.

3. Pittsburgh Steelers 9-3

Previously Ranked: 4

Week 13: 13-10 win at Baltimore

It wasn’t pretty but he, neither is Ben Roethlisberger. Big Ben played the game with a broken nose and a broken foot. One word comes to mind: warrior.

Next up: Cincinnati

Proceed with caution. This matchup screams letdown.

2. Atlanta Falcons 10-2

Previously Ranked: 2

Week 13: 28-24 win at Tampa Bay

A win yes, but a costly win it was. For three and a half quarters the Bucs dominated on both sides of the ball. Holes were exposed in the Falcons that will certainly make the next few games interesting. Something deep down tells me the Falcons will fall.

Next up: at Carolina

This won’t be the game they fall.

1. New England Patriots 10-2

Previously Ranked: 1

Week 13: 45-3 win over New York Jets

In the four games since the Patriots lost to the Browns, Tom Brady has thrown 13 touchdowns, zero interceptions and hasn’t had a QB rating lower than 117.4. Your MVP ladies and gentleman–Tom Brady.

Next up: at Chicago

Can’t imagine anything but Patriot win.

After starting the season 0-4 on the road, the Rams have rebounded with back-to-back wins away from the Edward Jones Dome.

The Rams win wasn’t pretty, but who cares! Keep reading for a few quick thoughts from Sunday’s game.

Samuel Bradford Needs Help

Wasn’t it only a week ago that Sam Bradford threw for over 300 yards and had three touchdowns in a win over the Denver Broncos? What happened since then? Arizona isn’t better than Denver, not even close.

Bradford’s performance wasn’t terrible, but it also wasn’t playoff caliber football. For the Rams to make the postseason, Bradford needs to carry the team on his back. Unfortunately, he is the only thing that can move the offense. For some reason Steven Jackson can’t be counted on to take over a game anymore. I’m not sure what happened to him this season. You’d think he’d only get better with the new-found stability under center. The next time Bradford has a big game, I expect Jackson will jump on the bandwagon and have one too.

Anyways, getting back to Bradford. His line looked like this: 18-29 for 189 yards, zero, touchdowns. one interception.

You may look at his numbers and say to yourself, “What the hell is this guy talking about?” Believe me, wouldn’t be the first time. But consider the opponent–the Cardinals have the 28th ranked defense in the league this season.

Mediocre performances like this won’t cut it against the big boys in New Orleans next week.

The Curious Case of Pat Shurmur

We really have to start evaluating Shurmur on a quarter-to-quarter basis. He is hands down the most inconsistent member of the St. Louis Rams.

You don’t have to look far for proof of my accusation.

Once again I’m going to revert back to last week’s 36-33 win in Denver. In the first half the play-calling was the best it’s been all season. Sam Bradford led the Rams to 289 yards on 42 plays and 26 points. In the second half the story was much different, only 164 yards on 36 plays and only managed to put 10 on the board.

I don’t understand why the results change against similar opponents. It’s not as if the offense is turning the ball over because–they aren’t. The 50 million dollar man-boy has only thrown two picks over the past seven games.

The Rams had a chance to make a statement against the beaten-down Cards. They should’ve scored 39 points, not 19, and had 400 total yards, not 288.

All the talk I hear about how Pat Shurmur is the main reason for Bradford’s success makes me want to punch a baby that looks like Pat Shurmur. Ok maybe not a baby.

Bradford and the Rams have succeeded this season in spite of Shurmur. Not the other way around, my friends.

Saints Won’t Be Very Saint-like

The Rams could be in some serious trouble come next week. A trip to New Orleans to face the defending champs is no picnic. Not in September, not now, and definitely not in the playoffs.

Steve Spagnuolo has a tough week ahead preparing for one of the most dynamic and accurate quarterbacks in NFL history. If he expects his team to win or at least stay competitive, it’s going to take a Super Bowl XLll caliber game plan.

The emotional toll of a road loss to the defending champs is certainly enough to derail this young team with a rookie leader. If the Rams lose this game badly, I expect the season to be over with no postseason.

As for the Sains, they’re battling with Atlanta for tops in the NFC South. No question there’s plenty at stake in this matchup.

Agree? Disagree? How do you see the Rams’ offense progressing as the season winds down? Think Steve Spagnuolo’s defense will hold up? Think Sam Bradford wins ROY?

What a week of headlines. Andre Johnson fights Cortland Finnegan, Derek Anderson melts down after the Cardinals loss on Monday Night Football, Andy Reid makes DeSean Jackson cry in front of his teammates, Steve Johnson drops a game-winning touchdown pass in the end zone. The NFL has become a full-fledged reality show.

The top five is still a bit murky, but thanks to some brilliant scheduling by the NFL we get to see the best play the best in Week 13.

Top Five Matchups To Watch in Week 13:

1. New York Jets at New England Patriots

2. Pittsburgh Steelers at Baltimore Ravens

3. Atlanta Falcons at Tampa Bay Buccaneers

4. Dallas Cowboys at Indianapolis Colts

5. Houston Texans at Philadelphia Eagles

Top Five Quarterbacks in Week 13:

1. Philip Rivers

2. Mike Vick

3. Eli Manning

4. Aaron Rodgers

5. Sam Bradford

Top Five Running Backs in Week 13:

1. Peyton Hillis

2. LeSean McCoy

3. Michael Turner

4. Steven Jackson

5. Chris Johnson

Top Five Wide Receivers in Week 13:

1. Dwayne Bowe

2. Roddy White

3. Brandon Lloyd

4. Wes Welker

5. Greg Jennings

And now what you’ve all been waiting for: My absurd but fun Week 13 Power Rankings.

Don’t like my list? I want to hear from you! Share yours in the comments section below. Let’s discuss people! Have any mock headlines? Share those too.

32. Arizona Cardinals 3-7

Previously Ranked:

Week 12: 27-6 loss to San Francisco

Did you see the Derek Anderson press conference? Even if you have–you know you want to see it again.

Next up: St. Louis

They beat the Rams in the opening week of the season. I asked my magic 8-ball if they can beat them again and got the following response: A Cardinal win is about as likely as Brett Favre’s return next season.

#SoTakeThatForWhatItsWorth

31. Carolina Panthers 1-10

Previously Ranked: 32

Week 12: 24-23 loss at Cleveland

Poor John Kasay. His 42-yard game-winning field goal attempt grazed the left upright as time expired Sunday. It’s a shame nobody cares that he had already made one field goal from 42 yards and two from 43 yards earlier in the game.

Like I said: Poor John Kasay.

Next up: at Seattle

Don’t see the Panthers getting their second win here. Seattle is tough at home and the Panthers aren’t good anywhere. #SUCKSTOBEJOHNFOX

30. Tennessee Titans 5-6

Previously Ranked: 21

Week 12: 20-0 loss at Houston

Oh how far they’ve fallen. Wasn’t it just a few weeks ago that we were talking about the Titans being a top five team? The curse of Randy Moss continues! Speaking of Moss, he had a game-changing three catches against the Texans–so there’s that.

Next up: Jacksonville

I can’t believe I’m saying this but, where’s Kerry Collins when you need him?

29. Detroit Lions 2-9

Previously Ranked: 30

Week 12: 45-24 loss to New England

The Lions led this one 17-10 at halftime, but as expected they give up 35 points and the win in the second half. Way to blow it on Turkey Day. The Lions are creeping back toward laughing stock status.

Next up: Chicago

A rematch of the Week 1 touchdown fiasco. The Lions need to find their sense of pride and become the spoiler.

28. Denver Broncos 3-8

Previously Ranked: 26

Week 12: 36-33 loss to St. Louis

What a bad day for Jay Cutler to throw four touchdowns against perhaps the best team in the NFL. I’m so glad my name isn’t Josh McDaniels.

#SacrificialLamb

Next up: at Kansas City

The Chiefs are undefeated at home. #NuffSaid

27. Cincinnati Bengals 2-9

Previously Ranked: 28

Week 12: 26-10 loss at the New York Jets

I just cannot understand how this team only has two wins. It’s almost laughable, hold on a second, nope it’s definitely laughable. I was able to realize that because I couldn’t stop laughing–haha.

#SIMPLEPLEASURESINLIFE

Next up: New Orleans

Is there anything left for the Bengals to play for? Doesn’t seem like it. It’s a shame because jobs are at stake.

26. San Francisco 49ers 4-7

Week 12: 27-6 win at Arizona

Can you believe the 49ers are only one game back of the division lead? Just when things started to turn around they lose Frank Gore for the season with some sort of hip injury. Luckily they have former Pro Bowler Brian Westbrook in the stable to take his place.

Next up: at Green Bay

The Niners may be on the comeback trail but the buck stops here, Aaron Rodgers and the Packers are playing too well.

25. Seattle Seahawks 5-6

Previously Ranked: 22

Week 12: 42-24 loss to Kansas City

Every single one of the Seahawks’ six losses has been by 15 points or more. You think the players are starting to get sick of Pete Carroll’s rah-rah attitude?

USC isn’t looking so bad right about now. Coaching the ‘Hawks is just like probation in the sense that it’s guaranteed you won’t win a championship.

#ComeOnThatWasFunny

Next up: Carolina

Should be a win but you never know with the NFC West, strange things tend to happen.

24. Washington Redskins 5-6

Previously Ranked: 20

Week 12: 17-13 loss to Minnesota

While there’s no disputing the fact that Donovan McNabb isn’t what he used to be, there’s no way can he be blamed for what’s going on in Washington right now. The Redskins have no rushing attack whatsoever. I don’t even know why they bother trying to run the ball. Ryan Torain had a few decent game before he got hurt–but he’s hurt. Against the Vikings they ran the ball 13 times for a grand total of 29 yards. McNabb can’t do it all by himself, not anymore at least.

The Giants have some injury issues. I don’t see an upset here but then again I don’t see a lot of things–so says my fiance.

23. Oakland Raiders 5-6

Previously Ranked: 16

Week 12: 33-17 loss to Miami

Attention Darren McFadden–please pick up a white courtesy phone IMMEDIATELY. Eight carries for two yards? What happened to the 100 yards games from earlier in the season? Raider nation misses you dearly. Please come back soon.

I’m willing to bet the farm that Oakland’s season is done if they lose this game. Too much ground to make up on two teams that are surging (KC/SD).

22. Houston Texans 5-6

Previously Ranked: 23

Week 12: 20-0 win over Tennessee

Why is everybody so upset about the Andre Johnson-Cortland Finnegan fight? We should be thankful the NFL didn’t try to charge us for it! I’ve paid for fights that have ended quicker.

Isn’t it funny how fans encourage fighting in the NHL but in the NFL it’s totally taboo.

#IWouldHavePunchedHimToo

Next up: at Philadelphia

I’m pretty sure Houston has not shot to win this game, but I’m a bit intrigued by the growing dysfunction in Philly right now.

21. Minnesota Vikings 4-7

Previously Ranked: 29

Week 12: 17-13 win at Washington

Favre scrambled for 10 yards on third and 8 to seal the game for the Vikes. It was rather incredible. He runs like a chandelier with shoes on.

Next up: Buffalo

Adrian Peterson left Sunday’s game early due to a right ankle injury. His status for Buffalo is unknown.

20. Buffalo Bills 2-9

Previously Ranked: 18

Week 12: 19-16 OT loss to Pittsburgh

If I were a Bills fan I would only watch the second half of every game. If they could have played two second halves against the Steelers they would have won in regulation.

To be fair, they should have won anyways. Steve Johnson’s dropped touchdown catch cost me a shot at the playoffs. Not cool man–not cool.

Next up: at Minnesota

Fred Jackson should run all over this Viking defense. Can someone please explain to me why the Bills used a top 10 pick on C.J. Spiller? Why would they want to replace quite possible their most dynamic player? Jackson went over 1000 yards on the ground last season.

#justsayin

19. Dallas Cowboys 3-8

Previously Ranked: 17

Week 12: 30-27 loss to New Orleans

A loss is never ideal, but I think Jason Garrett and the Cowboys can take a lot from their meeting with the defending champs on Thanksgiving day. Garrett has got to be the guy moving forward. He seems to have great command of his players.

Next up: at Indianapolis

I’m picking the ‘Boys to win this one. The Colts have too many injury issues to deal with at the moment.

18. Cleveland Browns 4-7

Previously Ranked: 24

Week 12: 24-23 win over Carolina

The Browns finally got back on track with a win. Glad to see it Browns fans. Peyton Hillis (3TDs vs. CAR) has to win Most Improved Player–doesn’t he?

Giving up 23 points to the Panthers is the same as a loss in my book. Rob Ryan forgot he is supposed to be making his case for a head coaching job.

17. Miami Dolphins 6-5

Previously Ranked: 19

Week 12: 33-17 win at Oakland

What a wild season for the Fish. Five of their six wins have come on the road, leaving them 1-4 at home.

#HowBizarre

Nice to see Ricky Williams back running well. He carried the ball 20 times for 95 yards and a touchdown. If you haven’t seen ESPN’s 30 for 30 series on Ricky Williams titled, “Run Ricky Run”, I highly recommend it.

Next up: Cleveland

This one is a homer for the Dolphins. If Colt McCoy plays I think the Browns can be competitive. If he doesn’t I expect this to be a #Blowout.

16. St. Louis Rams 5-6

Previously Ranked: 25

Week 12: 36-33 win at Denver

The Rams lead the NFC West, can you believe that? Their 5-6 record is the same as the Seahawks, but the Rams hold the tiebreaker edge because of a head-to-head win earlier in the season. Seattle will have a shot at redemption down the road in Week 17.

#Bradford4ROY

Next up: at Arizona

I hope for the NFL’s sake that whoever wins the NFC West has at least 8 wins. Come on Rams!!!

15. Jacksonville Jaguars 6-5

Previously Ranked: 15

Week 12: 24-20 loss at the New York Giants

The Jags really blew this one. Jack Del Rio needs to do a better job of reeling in his quarterback when leading late. David Garrard makes way too many mistakes. There isn’t enough talent around him to make up for his lack of awareness.

#LetMJDRun

Next up: at Tennessee

Cortland Finnegan wasn’t suspended for his fight with Andre Johnson. I bet he fights Mike Sims-Walker this time.

14. Tampa Bay Buccaneers 7-4

Previously Ranked: 13

Week 12: 17-10 loss at Baltimore

The Bucs really needed this one. Playoff hopes are fading fast as Atlanta and New Orleans keep winning. It’s going to take 10 or 11 wins to lock up the NFC South.

#BetterGetGoing

Next up: Atlanta

Here’s where we find out just how bad Josh Freeman and the Bucs want to make the postseason. He needs to put up better numbers than he did against the Ravens, 17-37-164 yards, for them to be competitive.

13. Indianapolis Colts 6-5

Previously Ranked: 12

Week 12: 36-14 loss to San Diego

Peyton Manning completed 64.5% of his passes, threw for 285 yards, two touchdowns and FOUR PICKS! Things are quickly spiraling out of control for the Colts and I’m not sure there’s an end in sight. Not even Tony Dungy could fix these Colts.

Next up: Dallas

The Cowboys will be very well-rested after their Thanksgiving day loss. Bad news for Peyton and the Colts.

12. New York Giants 7-4

Previously Ranked: 9

Week 12: 24-20 win over Jacksonville

Eli Manning did it again–another fourth quarter comeback. He looks like Peyton more and more each week. Keep in mind he did it without his two best receivers: Hakeem Nicks and Steve Smith. That’s also very Peyton like.

Next up: Washington

11. Kansas City Chiefs 7-4

Previously Ranked: 14

Week 12: 42-24 win at Seattle

Let me run a few stats by you:

Matt Cassel: 4th-QB rating (99.7), T5th-TD passes (22), T1st-INTs thrown (4)

Jamaal Charles: 2nd-rush yards (1021), 1st-yards per carry (6.4)

Dwayne Bowe: 1st, TD receptions (13)

Who knew Kansas City’s offense was so explosive?

Next up: Denver

The Chiefs need to keep winning because San Diego is charging! There’s only enough room for one AFC West team this year.

#TrueStory

10. Green Bay Packers 7-4

Previously Ranked: 3

Week 12: 20-17 loss at Atlanta

The Packers wasted 396 total yards from Aaron Rodgers. He led them in the air and on the ground. Even in a loss he somehow manages to steal the show.

Next up: San Francisco

9. Philadelphia Eagles 7-4

Previously Ranked: 1

Week 12: 31-26 loss at Chicago

The Bears exposed quite a bit of dysfunction within the Philadelphia Eagles. Not quite sure what’s going on with DeSean Jackson and Andy Reid but they’d better figure it out real quick.

Next up: Houston on Thursday Night Football

Philly shouldn’t have any trouble with the Texans on Thursday night. Mike Vick and LeSean McCoy can easily take advantage of the porous Texans’ defense.

8. San Diego Chargers 6-5

Previously Ranked: 11

Week 12: 36-14 win at Indianapolis

The Bolts defense gave Phil Rivers a break against the Colts by scoring two touchdowns of their own. Nice to see them win one without needing four touchdowns from QB1.

Will they just move on from Vincent Jackson already! Enough is enough. It’s not like they can’t win without him.

Next up: Oakland

A win here pretty much eliminates Oakland from the playoffs.

7. Chicago Bears 8-3

Previously Ranked: 10

Week 12: 31-26 win over Philadelphia

I guess it’s time to start taking the Bears seriously again. Jay Cutler had his best game in a Chicago Bears uniform at just the right time. Is it just me or do Brian Urlacher and Julius Peppers get better every game?

#TakeThatJoshMcDaniels

Next up: at Detroit

You can be sure that Jim Schwartz is going to have his team hungry for revenge. I hope the Bears realize that and come prepared.

6. New Orleans Saints 8-3

Previously Ranked: 8

Week 12: 30-27 win at Dallas

The Saints have won four straight since their Week 7 loss to Cleveland. With the rate the Falcons are winning they may need to win out if they want to win the division.

Next up: at Cincinnati

#TaketheOver

5. New York Jets 9-2

Previously Ranked: 7

Week 12: 26-10 win over Cincinnati

And the Jets keep rolling. Another win for the mean green. I’m still unsure about them though. Obviously we’ll all know what the Jets are made of next week.

Next up: at New England on Monday Night Football

Did you hear Rex Ryan say he is a lot like Tom Brady? He says they both have super model wives. While saying it he held up a Life & Style magazine in which his wife was featured.

#WellDoneSir

4. Pittsburgh Steelers 8-3

Previously Ranked: 4

Week 12: 19-16 OT win at Buffalo

Boy did the Steelers ever get lucky. How they escaped chilly Buffalo with a win I have no idea. Shaun Suisham kicked four field goals from 40 yards and out, three were 45 yards or longer. That’s pretty impressive for a guy I didn’t even know was on the team.

Next up: at Baltimore on Sunday Night Football

What a great way to wind down your Sunday.

3. Baltimore Ravens 8-3

Previously Ranked: 6

Week 12: 17-10 win over Tampa Bay

Very big win for the Ravens. Joe Flacco is quietly becoming one of the leagues top quarterbacks. His QB rating has been over 100 in five of the last six games.

Next up: Pittsburgh on Sunday Night Football

Very intriguing matchup. The last time these two met Ben Roethlisberger was still serving his suspension. I have a strong feeling this one will end a bit differently.

2. Atlanta Falcons 9-2

Previously Ranked: 5

Week 12: 20-17 win over Green Bay

Matt Ryan is something like 19-1 at home in his career. That stat is absurd! If the Falcons can secure home-field throughout, they have to be considered the favorite in the NFC.

Next up: at Tampa Bay

A win over the Bucs on the road will give them a ton more credibility.

1. New England Patriots 9-2

Previously Ranked: 2

Week 12: 45-24 win at Detroit

Tom Brady is so good. I just needed to get that out of the way. He led the Patriots to 35 second half points and another victory.

#OhThatTomBradyIsSoHotRightNow

Next up: New York Jets on Monday Night Football

ESPN is already in OVERKILL mode with this matchup. It’s already starting to wear on me.
