Risers

QB

Ben Roethlisberger, PIT

Roethlisberger returned with a vengeance from his four game league mandated suspension.

Those who waited to draft Roethlisberger saw immediate return and will continue to reap the rewards of their investment.

Although the Steelers play smash mouth football, Roethlisberger has two very good receiving options in Hines Ward and ’60 Minutes’ Mike Wallace in addition to a reliable tight end in Heath Miller.

Roethlisberger was a little rusty in his first start of the season, but he still threw three touchdowns. Most importantly for fantasy owners, he threw one to each of the aforementioned receivers.

Roethlisberger finished the day 16 for 27 (59.3 completion percentage) for 257 yards, three touchdowns and one interception.

10 of Roethlisberger’s 16 completions went to Ward, Wallace, and Miller. As the season progresses, his chemistry with these receivers will vastly improve.

Roethlisberger will continue to throw the ball and make big plays. He is arguably a top 10 quarterback any given week.

Other Notable Performances and Notes:

Kevin Kolb, PHI: 23 for 29 (79.3 completion percentage), 326 yards, 3 TD, INT

Matt Cassell, KC: 20 for 29 (69.0 completion percentage), 201 yards, 3 TD

Matt Ryan, ATL: 23 for 42 (54.8 completion percentage), 250 yards, 2 TD, INT, Fumble

Colt McCoy, CLE: 23 for 33 (69.7 completion percentage), 281 yards, TD, 2 INT

Joe Flacco, BAL: 27 for 35 (77.1 completion percentage), 285 yards, 2 TD

Trent Edwards, JAX: Would start if David Garrard misses Week 7

Kerry Collins, TEN: Would start if Vince Young misses Week 7

Last Week’s Rising QB in Week 6:

Eli Manning, NYG: 20 for 30 (66.7 completion percentage), 177 yards, 2 TD

RB

Christopher Ivory, NO

The Pierre Thomas injury is worse than expected.

Ivory looked good in the preseason but then suffered a knee injury. He was lackluster in his first few games with the Saints, but blew up against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Week 6.

Ivory outperformed teammate Ladell Betts, who still managed to score a touchdown in the game.

Christopher Ivory rushed 15 times for 158 yards and added one reception for 17 yards.

Ivory has a nice match up against the Cleveland Browns Week 7 and is a great flex option.

It is unknown when Pierre Thomas will return and Ivory looks like best playmaking back the Saints have at the moment.

Marshawn Lynch, SEA

Two years ago Marshawn Lynch was a consensus first round fantasy pick.

He failed and last year was another miserable season.

Clearly with a chip on his shoulder and one of the more talented running backs in the league, Lynch has the chance to succeed once again with the Seattle Seahawks.

He has the perfect opportunity to continue starting for the Seahawks and produce very good stats.

In his first game with Seattle against a good Chicago Bears defense, he rushed 17 times for 44 yards and a touchdown. He added three receptions for nine yards.

I expect Lynch to exceed these stats starting Week 7 in a favorable match up at home against the Arizona Cardinals.

Lynch is a powerful running back with good receiving abilities and should excel in Pete Carroll’s offense.

Those who made the low-risk, high-reward late round pick of Marshawn Lynch will be greatly rewarded the rest of the season with a smirk on their faces that it panned out.

Other Notable Performances and Notes:

Thomas Jones, KC: 19 carries, 100 yards, TD, 1 reception, 10 yards

Justin Forsett, SEA: 10 carries, 67 yards, TD, 1 reception, 9 yards

Ryan Torain, WAS: 20 carries, 100 yards, 2 TD, 1 reception, 9 yards

Danny Woodhead, NE: 11 carries, 63 yards, 5 receptions, 52 yards

Brandon Jacobs, NYG: 9 carries, 35 yards, 2 TD

Last Week’s Rising RBs in Week 6:

Felix Jones, DAL: 14 carries, 32 yards, 10 receptions, 61 yards

Michael Bush, OAK: 20 carries, 47 yards, 2 receptions, 12 yards

WR

Dwayne Bowe, KC

After a horrendous start to the season, Dwayne Bowe found the antidote he needed: The Houston Texans secondary.

Bowe lit up the Texans in their devastating loss to the tune of six receptions for 108 yards and two touchdowns.

Bowe took big hits and still managed to hold on to the ball, something he was not able to do last week against the Colts.

Bowe is a big target and I believed he would finally break out this season after attending Larry Fitzgerald’s offseason training camp.

Bowe is certainly on the raise but is not a reliable fantasy option just yet despite needing to be in most team’s fantasy lineups.

Bowe has a nice match up against the Jacksonville Jaguars who gave up a touchdown to Kenny Britt is who of similar ilk to Bowe.

I expect the momentum to carry over.

Deion Branch, NE

No Randy Moss?

No problem?

Evidently.

Former Super Bowl MVP for the Patriots Deion Branch returned to New England Week 6 after a terrible stint with the Seattle Seahawks.

If you watched the game, you would never have known he left.

Branch and Tom Brady displayed excellent chemistry.

Branch caught nine passes for 98 yards and a touchdown against a good Baltimore Ravens defense.

If Sunday’s performance is any indication of things to come, Branch will be an excellent pick up for the Patriots and all of his fantasy owners.

Consider Branch a strong WR2 option going forward as he could potentially be a top 15 receiver any given week with Tom Brady throwing the ball.

Other Notable Performances and Notes:

Johnny Knox, CHI: 5 receptions, 120 yards

Jeremy Maclin, PHI: 7 receptions, 159 yards, 2 TD

Mike Williams, SEA: 10 receptions, 123 yards

Patrick Crayton, SD: 6 receptions, 117 yards

Danario Alexander, STL: 4 receptions, 72 yards, TD

Derrick Mason, BAL: 8 receptions, 100 yards

Last Week’s Rising WRs in Week 6:

Malcolm Floyd, SD: 2 receptions, 15 yards (left game due to hamstring injury)

Steve Johnson, BUF: BYE

TE

Benjamin Watson, CLE

A young quarterback’s best friends are a pass catching running back and tight end they can check down to.

Colt McCoy proved this once again when he 12 of his 23 receptions went to Peyton Hillis and Benjamin Watson.

Watson tallied six receptions for 88 yards and a touchdown against the dominating Pittsburgh defense.

Watson has been a reliable fantasy tight end through the first six games as the Browns lack receiving threats. Watson is a big veteran target with arguably the most reliable hands on the team.

For the year, Watson has 29 receptions for 318 yards and two touchdowns.

McCoy should continue to find his way and Watson will be a more than serviceable bye week or injury fill in for fantasy owners starting as soon as Week 7 against the New Orleans Saints.

Last Week’s Rising TE in Week 6:

Brandon Pettigrew, DET: 7 receptions, 61 yards

Other Notable Performances and Notes:

Tony Gonzalez, ATL: 3 receptions, 19 yards, 2 TD

Bo Scaife, TEN: 4 receptions, 53 yards, TD

Heath Miller, PIT: 2 receptions, 50 yards, TD

Todd Heap, BAL: 3 receptions, 49 yards, TD

Owen Daniels, HOU: 5 receptions, 79 yards

Falling

QB

Jay Cutler, CHI

Cutler opened the season as one of the best fantasy quarterbacks in the league.

Everyone praised him and Mike Martz as the Bears started undefeated and Cutler was excelling.

Then the Mike Martz offense met the New York Giants defense.

Since then, Cutler has not been the same and everyone realizes the major flaw in a Mike Martz offense.

Cutler is going to drop back, drop back again, and then drop back some more. In the process, Jay Cutler is going to get bruised and battered repeatedly.

He suffered a concussion against the Giants and was forced to miss Week 5.

He returned Week 6 against the Seattle Seahawks and was beat down again.
Defenses know the Bears are not going to run the ball and can blitz, blitz, and blitz some more against Cutler.

Cutler will unfortunately be prone to more injuries and interceptions as the season goes along, but that is the price one pays to have a quarterback that is going to throw the ball as much as Cutler will.

Other Notable Performances and Notes:

Philip Rivers, SD: 22 for 37 (59.5 completion percentage), 249 yards, TD, INT

Tom Brady, NE: 27 for 44 (61.4 completion percentage), 292 yards, TD, 2 INT

Donovan McNabb, WAS: 29 for 45 (64.4 completion percentage), 246 yards, TD, 2 INT

Mark Sanchez, NYJ: 17 for 30 (56.7 completion percentage), 198 yards, TD, 2 INT

Brett Favre, MIN: 14 for 19 (73.7 completion percentage), 118 yards, TD, Fumble

Vince Young, TEN: Questionable Week 7 (knee)

David Garrard, JAX: Questionable Week 7 (concussion)

Last Week’s Falling QB in Week 6:

Carson Palmer, CIN: BYE

RB

Jahvid Best, DET

Since suffering from a toe injury, Best has failed to emulate the explosive, top fantasy option he was in the first two games of the season.

Similar to what happened to LaDainian Tomlinson last year, Best’s abilities are extremely hampered by such an injury.

Best is a fantastic receiving option and has great running vision. He relies on his quickness and agility to evade defenders and break free for long gains. The toe injury is severely limiting his potential because he is unable to make the necessary cuts when he has the ball. As what happened to Tomlinson, the failure to push off the foot when attempting to cut and juke has caused Best to be a decent flex play at best since the injury occurred.

The Lions coaching staff realizes this as Kevin Smith’s touches have increased since Best suffered the injury.

In the first two games of the season, Best rushed 31 times for 98 yards and four touchdowns. He also caught 14 passes for 170 yards and one touchdown.

In the four following games, he rushed 49 times for 159 yards and caught 17 passes for 115 yards. He also lost a fumble Week 4.

Decent stats and it is good that Best is still getting touches. Yet it is evident the injury has led to reduced stats.

In Week 6, Best caught six passes for 31 yards but rushed 12 times for just 16 yards.

The Lions have a bye so hopefully it will be enough time for Best to heal and treat his injury and return back closer to 100 percent.

Cadillac Williams, TB

A fantastic story over the past few seasons as Williams has returned from two devastating knee injuries in his career.

Still, the unquestioned starter for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for his veteran presence and pass blocking skills, Williams has been unable to produce quality stats for his fantasy owners.

Although his blocking skills are useful, he is losing touches to other backs on the team and could soon lose even more touches to LeGarrette Blount, who was oddly enough a healthy inactive Week 6.

Williams has failed to separate himself from the pact statistically.

Against New Orleans, Williams rushed 10 times for 18 yards and lost a fumble. He did produce through the air though, catching seven balls for 63 yards. That is a plus, but his ineffective rushing could be a concern for the coaching staff sooner than later as he averages just 38 rushing yards per game.

Williams would be a nice flex play if he was producing receiving totals like that each week, but he had just eight receptions in the previous four games.

For now, it may be best to stay away from the Tampa Bay running game until one of the backs separates themselves with productive play.

Other Notable Performances and Notes:

Shonn Greene, NYJ: 9 carries, 43 yards

Knowshon Moreno, DEN: 12 carries, 48 yards, Fumble

Maurice Jones-Drew, JAX: 17 carries, 57 yards, 2 receptions, 8 yards

Michael Turner, ATL: 15 carries, 45 yards, 1 reception, 4 yards

Marion Barber, DAL: 10 carries, 31 yards, 3 receptions, 15 yards

Last Week’s Falling RBs in Week 6:

Jonathan Stewart, CAR: BYE

Chris ‘Beanie’ Wells, ARZ: BYE

WR

Mike Sims-Walker, JAX

It seems every other week Sims-Walker is making my list.

Most receivers who make the falling list bounce back in the next game. It has rarely happened for Sims-Walker who I believe has hit rock bottom.

Garrard suffered a concussion Week 6 against Tennessee. Trent Edwards was unable to find Sims-Walker either.

Sims-Walker seems like he is just invisible on the field.

Potential breakout sleeper Mike Thomas caught six passes for 88 yards.

Sims-Walker caught just two passes for 16 yards. This was the second game this season Sims-Walker caught just two passes. He has also been shut out in two games. The other two games, Sims-Walker has 14 receptions for 151 yards and two touchdowns.

Last week against Buffalo, o the Jaguars’ last drive of the third quarter, Sims-Walker gained all of his production for the game.

He caught four passes for 46 yards and a touchdown.

This is eerily similar to Mike Sims-Walker’s play all season. He’ll show up once, but disappear the rest of the time.

Consider Sims-Walker a weak WR3/Flex going forward.

Donald Driver, GB

Driver has been decent to open the season.

The 35 year old receiver has 28 receptions, 307 yards and three touchdowns in six games.

However, he has not been the same consistent player he was in the past. He is coming off knee injuries in the offseason and is currently dealing with a quadriceps injury.

Driver caught just three balls for 31 yards in Week 6, a week after the Packers lost Jermichael Finley for the season.

Driver is questionable Week 7 with the same quadriceps injury, which could lead way to third stringer James Jones.

Jones is a talented receiver and could thrive alongside Greg Jennings as he is a physical receiver, arguably the most physical wide receiver on the team.

Do not be surprised to see Jones take over Driver’s spot at some point this season be it due to productivity or injury.

Other Notable Performances and Notes:

Louis Murphy, OAK: 1 rush, 43 yards, 1 reception, 4 yards

Santonio Holmes, NYJ: 1 carry, 14 yards, 4 receptions, 47 yards, Fumble

Hakeem Nicks, NYG: 3 receptions, 8 yards

Miles Austin, DAL: 2 receptions, 12 yards

Jerricho Cotchery, NYJ: 4 receptions, 18 yards

Danny Amendola, STL: 3 receptions, 19 yards

DeSean Jackson, PHI: Doubtful Week 7 (concussion)

Last Week’s Falling WRs in Week 6:

Chad Ochocinco, CIN: BYE

Greg Jennings, GB: 6 receptions, 133 yards, TD

TE

Chris Cooley, WAS

Chris Cooley is questionable Week 7 after suffering a concussion against the Indianapolis Colts.

Cooley has been good this season for fantasy owners who decided to wait on a tight end in their drafts.

Cooley has shown a nice rapport with Donovan McNabb and caught five passes for 37 yards before being removed Week 6.

For the season, Cooley has caught 28 passes for 240 yards and two touchdowns.

However, the league is very concerned with concussions and Cooley may be forced to sit. The extent of the concussion is not yet known although it does not appear to be too serious. Still, if Cooley is forced to miss time, Fred Davis has shown to be a productive tight end in the past.

Other Notable Performances and Notes:

John Carlson, SEA: 2 receptions, 21 yards

Tony Moeaki, KC: 2 receptions, 21 yards

Jeremy Shockey, NO: 2 receptions, 21 yards

Antonio Gates, SD: 2 receptions, 21 yards (questionable Week 7 with ankle/toe injury)

Tony Scheffler, DET: 2 receptions, 5 yards

Last Week’s Falling TE in Week 6:

Tim Tebow, arguably the most talked about player in the 2010 draft, finally made an impact for the Denver Broncos against arguably the best defense in the league in the New York Jets.

The draft class of 2010 is looking to be a promising one through the first six weeks of the NFL season. Many of the proposed superstars of the draft class shined played major roles in keeping their teams in each game or leading their team to a win.

No. 1 and No. 2 overall picks Sam Bradford and Ndamukong Suh once again played very good football.

There was even a surprise rookie who helped led his team to an upset home victory.

These young bloods will look to carry their Week 6 performances into Week 7 as they continue to take the league by storm.

Tim Tebow, Denver Broncos

Tim Tebow has finally made an impact for the Denver Broncos.

Oddly enough, the Broncos ran the ball fairly well against the stout New York Jets defense.

Tebow didn’t attempt a pass, but Head Coach Josh McDaniels made great use of Tebow’s ability to run the ball. Although Tebow isn’t as powerful against NFL athletes as he was in college, he was effective in short yardage situations and more importantly, inside the red zone.

Tebow scored the Broncos’ first touchdown of the day to tie the game in the first quarter on a five yard run. In total, Tebow rushed for 23 yards on six carries.

McDaniels is a creative coach and will certainly continue to make great use of Tebow’s exceptional versatility. Tebow stated his case for more playing time and he will surely get it.

Demaryius Thomas, Denver Broncos

Demaryius Thomas has been up and down to start his career due to several nagging injuries. Thomas came in to Week 6 banged up again, but played an important role in the near upset of the New York Jets.

Eddie Royal left the game with a groin injury and it was up to Thomas to step up in his place.

And he did.

Thomas beat Darrelle Revis for a 17 yard touchdown on his lone catch of the day to give the Broncos the lead in the third quarter.

Thomas is a big target for Kyle Orton. If Eddie Royal is forced to miss time, Thomas is going to have to be the man to step up for the Broncos. In his limited playing time over the first six weeks, it seems he has the ability to do so when healthy.

Aaron Hernandez, New England Patriots

According to ESPN Boston, Aaron Hernandez was on the field more than any other skill player.

Hernandez has become a major threat in the Patriots offense and is possibly their best deep threat on the team. It seems every week since the preseason began Hernandez has made a big play for the team.

Hernandez is a big target and although he had a few drops Week 6, he has reliable hands for the most part.

Now that Deion Branch looks to be back to form, Hernandez should continue to make big plays with the defense aiming to stop Branch and Wes Welker.

He caught four balls for 61 yards but could have had a bigger day. Still, he had a 30 yard reception, the longest of anybody on the team. He’ll continue to be a staple in this offense.

Joe Haden, Cleveland Browns

First round pick Joe Haden finally made the biggest impact of his young, promising career.

He picked off Ben Roethlisberger in the red zone in the first quarter. He ran it back 62 yards, making would-be tacklers miss left and right. This led to a Phil Dawson field goal and a Browns lead to open the game.

Haden also recorded two tackles in the contest.

Teammate Eric Wright has been abused through the first six weeks of the season, which means Haden could be taking his place sooner than later. One of the best corner backs out of the 2010 draft, Haden’s future shines bright.

Colt McCoy, Cleveland Browns

One of my favorite quarterbacks in the class of 2010, Colt McCoy looked surprisingly comfortable in his first start on the road against one of the best defenses in the league.

McCoy lost two of his best playmakers in this game to concussions in Joshua Cribbs and Mohamed Massaquoi.

Still, McCoy was efficient and effective for the most part despite throwing two interceptions. He was 23 for 33 (69.7 completion percentage) for 281 yards. He also completed a nice touchdown to tight end Benjamin Watson in the fourth quarter.

McCoy kept the Browns in it for most of the game but Ben Roethlisberger’s offense proved to be too much for the Browns defense. Still, the future looks rather promising for the Browns with McCoy behind center.

Sam Bradford, St. Louis Rams

Sam Bradford continues to prove me wrong. He has been absolutely excellent for the St. Louis Rams.

Bradford continues to work well under pressure and has displayed amazing accuracy to open his career. Bradford was roughed up a bit in this game, getting sacked three times, but continued to come back strong against the Chargers.

He was not as effective as he has been in past games. He completed 18 of 31 attempted passes (58.1 completion percentage) for just 198 yards.

Still, Bradford completed passes to nine different receivers.

He also completed a great touchdown to fellow rookie Denario Alexander to give the Rams a 10 point lead, which the team never lost.

Bradford has led the Rams to triple last year’s win total as they stand at 3-3. Bradford’s Rams are in contention for the division lead. More importantly, he is giving his teammates and Rams fans hope for the future.

Danario Alexander, St. Louis Rams

Coming out of nowhere to replace injured Mark Clayton, Danario Alexander led the team Week 6 with four receptions for 72 yards and a superb diving 38 yard touchdown.

Sam Bradford and Alexander displayed great chemistry during this game.

Bradford made Clayton and Danny Amendola look very good to open the season. If Danario Alexander continues to make plays for the Rams, he will quickly become Bradford’s favorite target.

Dez Bryant, Dallas Cowboys

Bryant entered the week nursing rib and ankle injuries. Bryant was still explosive for the Cowboys in their devastating 24-21 loss to the Minnesota Vikings.

Bryant only made one reception, but it was a fantastic 31 yard touchdown up the sideline at the right pile on.

Bryant looked good on punt returns. He made a great 32 yard return in the fourth quarter but it was called back due to penalty.

Despite nursing injuries, Bryant is proving to be an immediate impact player for the Dallas Cowboys in all facets of the game. He will continue to play a major role for the team. Already considered a steal with the 24th overall pick, Bryant has superstar written all over him.

Ndamukong Suh, Detroit Lions

Suh has been an absolute beast for the Lions. He has been everything everyone said he was, which is why I believed he should have went No. 1 overall to the St. Louis Rams. However, Sam Bradford has proved me wrong and it seems both teams got exactly what they hoped.

Suh was once again dominant against the New York Giants.

He recorded 1.5 sacks against the declining Giants offensive line. Although the Lions lost to New York, they held their own for most of the game.

With five sacks and an interception in the first six weeks, Suh is easily my defensive rookie of the year thus far.

It has been quite a tumultuous season through the first five weeks of the NFL.

Bottom dwellers are finally feasting.

Preseason Super Bowl contenders have reason to panic.

Who has the talent to turn things around?

Which team will continue dropping down the ladder?

Which team places where?

Tier 1

1. New York Jets (4-1)

2. Baltimore Ravens (4-1)

3. Pittsburgh Steelers (3-1)

These three teams have to be the leading contenders to win the Super Bowl at the moment.

Although Baltimore beat New York Week 1, I still believe the Jets should have won that game. Offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer called an odd game. Not saying the Ravens couldn’t beat the Jets any given week, but I’d take the Jets.

The Jets are dominant on defense. More importantly, they’re rolling on offense thanks to LaDainian Tomlinson. Mark Sanchez isn’t turning the ball over this season and they just got Santonio Holmes back.

Pittsburgh opened the season 3-1, much to my surprise. With Ben Roethlisberger back this week, they’ll continue rolling. Except now the wide receivers will be far more consistent and the offense will be much scarier. They lost a close home game to Baltimore with Charlie Batch and I can’t help but think if Roethlisberger played they would have held on to the win.

Still, Baltimore won and I’ll take their offense over Pittsburgh’s.

Tier 2

4. New York Giants (3-2)

5. Atlanta Falcons (4-1)

6. Kansas City Chiefs (3-1)

7. Indianapolis Colts (3-2)

8. New Orleans Saints (3-2)

9. Tennessee Titans (3-2)

10. New England Patriots (3-2)

11. Chicago Bears (4-1)

The Giants opened inconsistent, but have turned in two very good performances. If they can keep the turnovers down, they’ll be very dangerous. The defense is finally clicking. Atlanta has squeaked out close wins and looks to be the cream of the NFC, but I’d tip my hat to the Giants in a meeting between the two.

The Colts beat the Chiefs in an unimpressive fashion Week 5. The Chiefs were a dropped touchdown from Dwayne Bowe away from possibly sealing the game. The Chiefs have impressed me a lot. I love their coaching staff and youthful explosiveness.

Tennessee continues to be one of the most underrated teams each year. They have a solid defense, a good quarterback and arguably the best running back in the league. New Orleans stays in the top 10 despite a terrible loss to the lowly Cardinals. Injuries struck the Saints hard to open the season but I like them in the long run to contend for another Super Bowl.

Although I love their defense, I don’t fully trust the Chicago Bears just yet. It would be nice to see one of their receivers step up finally. New England is in the top 10 despite trading Randy Moss for the simple fact that Tom Brady and Bill Belichick are still there. It’s tough to bet against them when they’re determined to prove everyone wrong.

Tier 3

12. Houston Texans (3-2)

13. Minnesota Vikings (1-3)

14. Green Bay Packers (3-2)

15. Dallas Cowboys (1-3)

16. Oakland Raiders (3-2)

17. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3-1)

18. San Francisco 49ers (0-5)

Tier 3 is muddled with teams in odd scenarios. Most of these teams were expected to succeed throughout the season but have fallen flat on their faces to open the year.

Clearly Minnesota, Dallas, Green Bay, and San Francisco have a lot of talent on their team but are at the bottom looking up in the standings. I still think Minnesota, Dallas, and San Francisco can turn things around and bring home a respectable season.

Green Bay has a winning record but lost to the Redskins when they should have won and are dealing with several injuries at the moment.

I had Oakland winning the division so I have to believe that they can keep competing.

I also believed Houston would be a winning team this season. Houston could face trouble all season with their terrible secondary though. Andre Johnson still looked bothered by his ankle injury against New York. Worse though was the look of defeat on their faces throughout the game.

Tampa Bay has been a surprise to me but I love the way they’re playing. Josh Freeman and Mike Williams look great and the defense is much improved. Good to see the young team enjoying early success.

Tier 4

19. Cincinnati Bengals (2-3)

20. Miami Dolphins (2-2)

21. Philadelphia Eagles (3-2)

22. Denver Broncos (2-3)

23. Washington Redskins (3-2)

24. San Diego Chargers (2-3)

If Philadelphia started Michael Vick from the beginning, and he was healthy, this team would be much higher up. He is that dangerous. The team plays much different when he is on the field instead of Kevin Kolb.

I didn’t trust the Chargers since the preseason and they’re proving me right. Philip Rivers and Antonio Gates have been phenomenal. Until the rest of the team gives me a reason to believe, I can’t move them up a tier.

I still don’t trust the Redskins despite two big wins. Miami plays tough ball but I still seem them as a .500 club. Denver has actually impressed me and they probably still will for most of the year, but I don’t think they’ll amount to many wins.

As much as it pains me to say, Carson Palmer has become a liability. I still believe they can turn things around because of the talent on the team, but they’re not there yet. They have a lot of work to do on the bye week.

Tier 5

25. Detroit Lions (1-4)

26. Cleveland Browns (1-4)

27. Jacksonville Jaguars (3-2)

28. St. Louis Rams (2-4)

29. Arizona Cardinals (3-2)

30. Seattle Seahawks (2-2)

31. Buffalo Bills (0-5)

32. Carolina Panthers (0-5)

Detroit and Cleveland have impressed me a lot this year. I thought Detroit could potentially be a .500 team. The record doesn’t show it, but they have played like one. They should have beaten Chicago and almost beat Philadelphia and Green Bay. Their only poor game was against Minnesota.

Cleveland picked up a big win against Cincinnati and has played most of their games tough. They could have opened 3-1 and had a chance to beat Atlanta. For a team without much talent, they are a tough out. Peyton Hillis has been one of the biggest surprises of the league.

Sam Bradford has been fantastic. He’s proven me wrong since I didn’t think he would be this good. Still, this team has been hit by injuries and the secondary is terrible.

Jacksonville surprisingly beat the Colts and both of their other wins I predicted. Still, I don’t trust this team whatsoever. I think they fall back to the bottom.

Arizona completed the major upset of the Saints Week 5, but they really should not have won that game. I didn’t see much out of the gate from Max Hall even though he was at least able to get Larry Fitzgerald the ball. Maybe they’ll prove me wrong and win more games as I do think their defense is underrated and I really like Chris ‘Beanie’ Wells. Still, I wouldn’t bet on it.

Seattle had the impressive Week 1 win over San Francisco. Since then, they have not looked the least bit impressive. I think they’re headed for a top six pick.

Same goes for Buffalo and Carolina. They’re clearly at the bottom of the barrel.

Hot

Center

Derek Roy, BUF

Roy is plus two and currently leads all centers with four goals scored. He also has 10 shots on goal, which is tied for fourth. He has added one assist. Look for Roy to shoot plenty for the Sabres the entire season. I would expect Roy’s assist totals to increase sooner than later en route to a career high with two talented young wingers beside him.

Left Wing

Alexander Ovechkin, WAS

Ovechkin seems intent to avenge his embarrassing first round exit last postseason. He has opened out of the gate hot. The No. 1 fantasy pick has 16 shots on goal and three goals scored, both of which rank first among all left wingers. He has two assists, two shy of the league leader. He is also plus two, just one shy of the league leader, his teammate Brooks Laich.

Right Wing

Marian Hossa, CHI

The veteran has been on point to open the season, clearly still excited from winning the Stanley Cup. Hossa is tied with just Nathan Horton of Boston for first among right wingers with three goals scored. He is one shy of Alexander Semin and Thomas Kopecky in assists with two. He impressively leads plus/minus with four and is tied for second with 11 shots on goal.

Defenseman

Jordan Leopold, BUF

Leopold has been excellent with two goals scored and two assists. He is plus one and has 10 shots on goal. Those looking for defenseman should look at Leopold, James Wisniewski of the Islanders, and John-Michael Liles of the Avalanch who have all been top defenseman to open the season.

Goalie

Nikolai Khabibulin, EDM

Khabibulin has started two games and has two wins under his belt, including one shut out. He has a save percentage of .969, only giving up two goals. Nikolai Khabibulin was great for Chicago two seasons ago, winning 25 games. However, it will be difficult for him to match those numbers.

Cold

Center

Nicklas Backstrom, WAS

Ovechkin may be off to a strong start, but his teammate is struggling mightily. Although he is plus one, Backstrom has only six shots on goal with zero goals scored and zero assists recorded. Of course, Backstrom will be among the best centers as he plays for one of the best offenses in the league.

Left Wing

Zach Parise, NJ

Parise is one of many top left wingers to disappoint opening the year. Although he has a goal and has taken nine shots, he has zero assists and is minus two. New Jersey in general has been disappointing but should rebound quickly.

Right Wing

Jarome Iginla, CGY

Iginla has been terrible to start the season. He has yet to score or a goal or record an assist. He is minus one with just seven shots on goal. One of the best wingers in the game, Iginla should bounce back shortly.

Defenseman

Duncan Keith, CHI

My top rated defenseman, Keith has opened slowly. He does have one assist, but zero penalty minutes and just four shots on goal. He is also minus two. I still look for him to be one of the best this season on arguably the best team in the league.

Goalie

Martin Brodeur, NJ

One of the best goalies in the history of the game has not looked like it. In three games, Brodeur does not have a victory and has two losses under his belt. He has given up 11 goals (nine in the past two games), almost four per game, with a save percentage of .859.

1. Carolina Panthers

Marcell Dareus, DT, Alabama

The Panthers will have a solid offensive core with their offensive line, Steve Smith, Jonathan Stewart and Jimmy Clausen. They should focus on defense early in this draft with the offenses in the NFC South. Dareus is arguably the best defensive lineman coming out and would help create penetration for the solid group of linebackers and corner backs. Ndamukong Suh has paid off extremely well in the first five games for the Detroit Lions, Carolina will hope Dareus can have a similar impact.

2. Buffalo Bills

Andrew Luck, QB, Stanford

After the hit he put on against USC, I’m a fan for life. Buffalo needs a tough nosed kid like this to lead their team back to respectability. Ryan Fitzpatrick has done well for the Bills so far, but he is not their future. Luck and last year’s first round pick C.J. Spiller would be a fantastic building block.

3. St. Louis Rams

A.J. Green, WR, Georgia

Although teams have been recently reluctant to draft a receiver early, the Rams are left with Danny Amendola, Laurent Robinson and Mardy Gilyard this season after Michael Clayton’s season ending knee injury Week 5. They’ll realize that although they could use a lot of help in the secondary, they can’t afford to pass on a talent like A.J. Green who will become Sam Bradford’s favorite target. Green is an excellent receiver who will help Amendola continue to rack up receptions in the slot. With Bradford, Steven Jackson and the addition of Green, the Rams offensive outlook looks far brighter.

4. Detroit Lions

Patrick Peterson, CB, LSU

The Lions desperately need help in the secondary. Later in the draft they’ll look for a receiver to help open things for Calvin Johnson, but the offensive nucleus is already on point with Megatron, Matthew Stafford, Jahvid Best, and Brandon Pettigrew. The front seven is much improved this season with the addition of Suh. Only Louis Delmas can be considered a playmaker in the Detroit secondary. He’ll have some help in 2011.

5. Cleveland Browns

Prince Amukamara, CB, Nebraska

Cleveland drafted Joe Haden last year and will continue to build a fantastic secondary to stop the great wide receivers in the AFC North. The Bengals and Jets can do a lot on defense because they have excellent corner backs and I look for Cleveland to try and do the same. Eric Wright has been all wrong for the Browns so far this season. I still believe Holmgren will give Colt McCoy a chance to start before drafting another quarterback. Although Cleveland needs offense, they are not that far off on defense and will address those needs earlier.

6. Seattle Seahawks:

Jake Locker, QB, Washington

‘Clipboard Jesus’ Charlie Whitehurst is not the future in Seattle. Matt Hasselbeck needs to step aside. Pete Carroll and the Seattle fan base will be leaping for joy when they land Jake Locker. One of the better quarterback prospects of the past few years, Locker will continue to breathe life into the Seattle offense. With Deon Butler, Mike Williams, John Carlson, and Marshawn Lynch already in place, Carroll will have a solid, young offense to work with.

7. Arizona Cardinals

Robert Quinn, DE, North Carolina

Although I don’t believe the Cardinals defense is as bad as most make it out to be, Head Coach Ken Whisenhunt seems intent to give quarterback Max Hall a chance. The offense has a nice core and the secondary has three playmakers in Adrian Wilson, Kerry Rhodes and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. The Cardinals do, however, need better penetration in the trenches. Robert Quinn will provide a much better pass rush than the current defensive line is providing.

8. Jacksonville Jaguars

Ryan Mallet, QB, Arkansas

David Garrard has proven he is not the answer. I do not expect Jack Del Rio, if he is still with the team, to trust Trent Edwards to help him keep his job. Jacksonville needs to draft for the future. They have one of the best running backs in the league in Maurice Jones-Drew, but desperately need offensive line help. They’ll address the offensive line later in the draft as they cannot afford to pass on arguably the best quarterback in the draft.

9. Cincinnati Bengals

Adrian Clayborn, DE, Iowa

Somehow, the Bengals aren’t clicking. They have lost close games to opponents they should beat. They could very well be drafting higher than No. 8 in April. They have a great secondary and veteran offense. I do not expect them to go offense in the first round. They could use help at the defensive end position. Adrian Clayborn is next off my board and will be a great addition to this solid defense.

10. Washington Redskins

Jonathan Baldwin, WR, Pittsburgh

Although I believe the Redskins line is poor, they are young, so I think Mike Shanahan will give them some time to gel. This team has a ton of needs. They need a running back, a future quarterback, defensive line help and another linebacker. With Santana Moss aging, Devin Thomas cut, Malcolm Kelly a failure, the team only has Anthony Armstrong and two tight ends as receiving options. Shanahan needs to start rebuilding his offense of the future, and it will start with Jonathan Baldwin.

11. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Anthony Costonzo, OT, Boston College

The Bucs could very well continue building their defensive line, but I think they should look at upgrading their offensive line. Josh Freeman could still use better protection and the offensive line is not generating running lanes for its running backs.

12. Denver Broncos

Dont’a Hightower, LB, Alabama

Kyle Orton has been excellent in Josh McDaniels’ system. They have somehow made it work with what seemed to be a limited offensive roster. The team needs defensive help although Elvis Dumervil will return next season. The defense needs to get younger and more athletic, Hightower will provide them that luxury.

13. Philadelphia Eagles

Aaron Williams, CB, Texas

The offense is set but the offensive line needs help. Still, I’d be far more concerned about the defense, mainly the secondary. With Dallas and New York in the same division, there are a lot of scary receivers that need to be covered. Asante Samuel is getting up there and Ellis Hobbs is not my definition of a second corner. The Eagles used to have a fantastic duo and will be well on their way to getting back to that.

14. Miami Dolphins

Mark Ingram, RB, Alabama

I could very well see both Ricky Williams and Ronnie Brown playing for other teams in 2011. Williams has not been productive to start the season and Brown has a lengthy shopping list of injuries. Ingram will make a solid transition for the Dolphins who will be awarded with a workhorse running back.

15. San Diego Chargers

Julio Jones, WR, Alabama

After the Chargers let go of Vincent Jackson, they may be forced to pull the trigger on Jones. The Chargers have gone younger on offense but are led by veterans Philip Rivers and Antonio Gates. Malcolm Floyd is not the definition of a No. 1 receiver and Legedu Naanee has been ineffective since the opener against Kansas City. Jones will be a big compliment to Gates and Rivers’ strong arm.

16. Kansas City Chiefs

Malcolm Floyd, WR, Notre Dame

Although teams have let receivers slip in the draft, I’m high on this year’s core crop of receivers. Dwayne Bowe has been a major disappointment for the Chiefs in my eyes. Todd Haley is an offensive guy. The defense has been stout this year, although they need help at the linebacker position. Still, Matt Cassell needs another target to make this an explosive offense. With Bowe and Floyd on the outside, McCluster in the slot and Jamaal Charles at running back, this offense would finally be ready to put up points.

17. Chicago Bears

Joseph Barksdale, OT, LSU

Not much else to say except that the Chicago Bears’ offensive line has been atrocious for over a year. Look no further than Week 4 against the New York Giants.

18. San Francisco 49ers

Da’Quan Bowers, DE, Clemson

San Francisco desperately needs a change at quarterback as the Alex Smith experiment has failed miserably. Should’ve drafted Aaron Rodgers. Mike Singeltary will continue to build his defense. The 49ers have a solid secondary and a very good linebacking corps. Their major concern is on the defensive line where they can go either end or tackle. I’ll go end here.

19. Houston Texans

DeAndre McDaniel, S, Clemson

The Houston Texans secondary is abysmal. They desperately need help at corner and safety. Realistically, Houston could probably pick out of a hat of the top defensive backs and he would be an instant upgrade.

20. Tennessee Titans

Bruce Carter, LB, North Carolina

The Titans defense is a solid group overall, but they need help at linebacker. Carter will be able to step in immediately behind a very good and underrated offensive line.

21. Dallas Cowboys

Allen Bailey, DE, Miami (FL)

The Dallas offense is clearly set for a long time. They must continue to build their defense if they hope to ever win a Super Bowl again. The Cowboys could use help as safety, but Allen Bailey will provide a lot of help to DeMarcus Ware on the pass rush.

22. New England Patriots (from Oakland Raiders)

Cameron Heyward, DE, Ohio St.

As long as the Patriots have Tom Brady, they will be just fine on offense. Belichick needs to continue to find defensive playmakers as the team has gone younger over the past two seasons. The team has a fantastic young core already. The Patriots could use help on the defensive line more than anything else. With two picks in the first round, they will stock up.

23. Minnesota Vikings

Janoris Jenkins, CB, Florida

The Vikings will clearly need to find a quarterback for the future. Unless, of course, Brett Favre was lying as usual and comes back for another season. With the top quarterbacks off the board already, Minnesota will be forced to wait to find their new signal caller. With Cedric Griffin tearing his ACL again, the Vikings will be looking to add a corner to their great defense.

24. New England Patriots

Stephen Paea, DT, Oregon St.

As stated, the Patriots will continue to build their defense. The Patriots suffered injuries at the defensive tackle position early in the season. They need to penetrate up front to truly exceed on defense, so they need to bolster the tackle position.

25. New Orleans Saints

Akeem Ayers, LB, UCLA

The Saints could use help at corner and safety, but they could very well upgrade their line backing corps. The Saints need to get younger and corner. Ayers would work well with veteran Jonathan Vilma.

26. Indianapolis Colts

Rodney Hudson, OG, Florida St.

The Kansas City Chiefs frustrated Peyton Manning all day Week 5. The offensive line needs to get younger finally. While the Colts could look at line backer, they may be forced to address offensive line needs.

27. Green Bay Packers

Mark Barron, S, Alabama

The Packers secondary has been continuously hit by injuries over the past two seasons. The Packers need help at the safety position. Barron will immediately come in and start for Green Bay. This would be a perfect situation for Barron with the veteran presence around him.

28. Pittsburgh Steelers

Marcus Cannon, OG, TCU

The Steelers have needed offensive line help for about two years now. With a young offensive nucleus intact, they should finally address their glaring need.

29. Atlanta Falcons

Aldon Smith, LB, Missouri

The Falcons could use another receiver opposite superstar Roddy White. They could also use help on the defensive line. However, the line backer position needs more help than any. Smith will be an excellent addition working behind John Abraham to rush the passer. The two of them could be quite the force.

30. Baltimore Ravens

Ras-I Dowling, DB, Virginia

The Ravens need a lot of help in the secondary. Their front seven is fantastic but aging. Ed Reed is constantly banged up and has considered retirement in the past. It’s time to look at the future, and that future is Ras-I Dowling.

31. New York Giants

Gabe Camri, OT, Wisconsin

The Giants offensive line has been lackluster for over a year now. They are not providing the same protection for Eli Manning or generating the running lanes for the running backs that we saw during the Super Bowl run. Their drop off in production was a major reason the team missed the playoffs in 2009.

32. New York Jets

Jurrell Casey, DT, USC

For the second year, defensive tackle Kris Jenkins was sidelined with an injury. The Jets defense is already incredible, but with a massive force up front at the tackle position, they can do even more with their defensive schemes.

Based on standings as of Week 6 and future predictions

Risers:

QB:

Eli Manning, NYG

Manning, as I expected, had a big game against the Houston Texans.

Manning would have exceeded 300 passing yards in Week 5 if Nicks didn’t drop an easy deep pass. He was just three yards shy of 300.

He completed three touchdown passes. Nicks calmly stepped out at the one yard line instead of making a play for the end zone, or else Manning would have had four.

Although Manning threw two more interceptions bringing his total to eight (he threw 14 all last year), he looked a lot more comfortable this week than previous.

Manning picked apart the Houston secondary with ease throughout the contest.

The Giants host Detroit Week 6.

Manning could once again put up top five numbers this week as the Lions’ front seven is much improved. There is no way the Lions’ secondary will be able to compete with Nicks, Steve Smith, and Mario Manningham.

Expect Manning to get comfortable early and throw often.

Other Notable Performances and Notes:

Alex Smith, SF: 25 for 39 (64.1 completion percentage), 309 yards, 3 TD, 2 INT, Fumble

Ryan Fitzpatrick, BUF: 20 for 30 (66.7 completion percentage), 220 yards, 3 TD

Josh Freeman, TB: 20 for 33 (60.6 completion percentage), 280 yards, TD, INT

Shaun Hill, DET: 21 for 32 (65.6 completion percentage), 227 yards, 3 TD

Vince Young, TEN: 12 for 25 (48.0 completion percentage), 173 yards, 2 TD

Colt McCoy, CLE: Expected to start Week 6

Last Week’s Rising QBs in Week 5:

David Garrard, JAX: 16 for 20 (80.0 completion percentage), 178 yards, 3 TD, INT, Fumble

Kevin Kolb, PHI: 21 for 31 (67.7 completion percentage), 253 yards, TD, Fumble

RB:

Felix Jones, DAL

Felix Jones finally had the breakout game fantasy owners have been expecting for over a year now.

Against a stingy Titans defense, Jones rushed 15 times for 109 yards. He also caught four passes for 17 yards.

Jones looked explosive this week while Marion Barber was highly ineffective.

Jones displayed good power and vision, but excellent speed on the edge. He will face a similar defensive front Week 6 against Minnesota. Jones made his case to carry the rock more often, so expect the Cowboys to get him involved more starting this week in a must win game.

Michael Bush, OAK

One of the popular preseason sleeper picks, Bush finally got his chance to succeed with the first quarter’s breakout star Darren McFadden sidelined by a hamstring injury.

Hamstring injuries are tough to judge, so Bush could get the start once again against San Francisco Week 6, which isn’t a bad match up by any means.

In Week 5, Bush carried the ball 26 times for 104 yards and one touchdown. He also caught three passes for 31 yards.

If McFadden is out, expect Bush to carry the ball around 25 times again and top the century mark for the second straight game. I would also expect him to catch a few more passes regardless if it’s Bruce Gradkowski or Jason Campbell behind center.

The running back is the focal point of the Raiders’ offense, so expect Bush to be involved heavily. He would be a top Week 6 running back option.

Other Notable Performances and Notes:

Brandon Jackson, GB: 10 carries, 115 yards, 5 receptions, 25 yards

Willis McGahee, BAL: 10 carries, 67 yards, TD

Mike Hart, IND: 11 carries, 50 yards, TD, 1 reception, 5 yards

Shonn Greene, NYJ: 10 carries, 57 yards, TD

Last Week’s Rising RBs in Week 5:

Ryan Torain, WAS: 16 carries, 40 yards, 4 carries, 27 yards

LaDainian Tomlinson, NYJ: 20 carries, 94 yards, 5 receptions, 13 yards

WR:

Malcolm Floyd, SD:

Floyd finally had the Vincent Jackson-esque game everyone hoped they would see when they drafted him.

Floyd exploited the Raiders’ secondary. He caught eight passes for 213 yards and one touchdown.

Floyd now has two games this season with at least six passes. He has also caught a touchdown in three of the past four games.

Gates dominates attention from opposing defenses, allowing Floyd to get behind the defense.

Floyd has an excellent match up against the St. Louis Rams. It would be very surprising if Floyd does not score a touchdown Week 6.

Steve Johnson, BUF:

Who knew that all Steve Johnson needed in his third season was a strong dose of Ryan Fitzpatrick?

Johnson has been very good in the past three weeks, catching at least one touchdown in each game.

Week 5 was Johnson’s breakout game.

He caught a season high five passes for 46 yards and two touchdowns.

Johnson has already eclipsed his career total for touchdowns. With Lee Evans and C.J. Spiller commanding attention from opposing defenses, Johnson is left all by himself to roam the field.

As the Buffalo Bills continuously play from behind, expect Johnson to receive a lot of targets and turn himself into a very good flex option and potential WR3.

Other Notable Performances and Notes:

Brandon Lloyd, DEN: 5 receptions, 135 yards, 2 TD

Lee Evans, BUF: 5 receptions, 87 yards, TD

Kenny Britt, TEN: 4 receptions, 86 yards, TD

Danny Amendola, STL: 12 receptions, 95 yards, Fumble

Mike Williams, TB: 7 receptions, 99 yards, TD

Percy Harvin, MIN: 5 receptions, 97 yards, 2 TD

Deion Branch, NE: Traded from Seattle to New England October 11

Last Week’s Rising WRs in Week 5:

Terrell Owens, CIN: 7 receptions, 102 yards, TD

Santonio Holmes, NYJ: 3 receptions, 41 yards

TE:

Brandon Pettigrew, DET

Pettigrew has been fantastic in his sophomore season despite coming back from knee surgery last season.

Playing alongside Calvin Johnson allows Pettigrew to open over the middle of the field and the end zone and Pettigrew has done just that.

He is currently one of the better fantasy tight ends in the league.

He has 26 receptions for 275 yards and a touchdown.

Week 5 snapped a three game streak of at least six receptions. He caught four in Week 5, but did score his first touchdown of the season.

Matthew Stafford is expected back after the Week 7 bye, which will only benefit Pettigrew.

For those with tight ends on byes or suffering from injuries, Pettigrew has been a reliable option the past four weeks.

Other Notable Performances and Notes:

Chris Cooley, WAS: 7 receptions, 69 yards

Marcedes Lewis, JAX: 4 receptions, 52 yards, 2 TD

Jason Witten, DAL: 5 receptions, 84 yards, TD

Andrew Quarless, GB: 4 receptions, 51 yards

Kellen Winslow, TB: 6 receptions, 75 yards

Last Week’s Rising TE in Week 5:

Zach Miller, OAK: 6 receptions, 62 yards, TD

Fallers:

QB:

Carson Palmer, CIN

When Palmer first came in to the league, I believed he would eventually become the best pure passer in the league.

I was wrong.

Palmer has suffered several injuries and setbacks throughout his career.

At this point, he is a shell of his former self and does not look like he will ever meet his full potential.

When the Bengals signed Terrell Owens, I though Palmer would finally vault himself into a top fantasy QB this season.

Again, I was wrong.

Palmer has looked terrible this season. He is making poor decisions and does not have the same velocity or accuracy he once had.

I can only hope the bye week is just what Palmer needed to settle down and finish strong.

Although I predicted it would be a rather mediocre day for Palmer Week 5, I didn’t think he would make the poor decision making and throws he made, which concerns me going forward.

He had a fantastic fantasy day Week 4 against Cleveland, but fumbled twice.

Palmer was mediocre Week 5 though. He only threw 207 yards. He did throw two touchdowns, but had three costly interceptions. He has at least two turnovers in each of the past three games.

Cincinnati returns Week 7 against Atlanta, a better match up than against Tampa Bay. Hopefully Palmer can work out the kinks and develop better chemistry with his receivers.

Other Notable Performances and Notes:

Matt Cassel, KC: 16 for 29 (55.2 completion percentage), 156 yards

Matt Schaub, HOU: 16 for 34 (47.1 completion percentage), 196 yards, INT, Fumble

Peyton Manning, IND: 26 for 44 (59.1 completion percentage), 244 yards, INT

Sam Bradford, STL: 23 for 45 (51.1 completion percentage), 215 yards, 2 INT

Jimmy Clausen, CAR: 9 for 22 (40.9 completion percentage), 61 yards, INT

Mark Sanchez, NYJ: 21 for 44 (47.7 completion percentage), 191 yards

Aaron Rodgers, GB: Questionable Week 6 (concussion)

Last Week’s Falling QB in Week 5:

Jay Cutler, CHI: Did not play (concussion)

HB:

Jonathan Stewart, CAR

Plain and simple, Stewart owners need DeAngelo Williams to be traded this season.

Stewart has been one of the biggest disappointments as the Carolina offense has been abysmal to open the season.

Steve Smith is hurt.

Rookie Jimmy Clausen is starting at quarterback.

The offensive line has failed to generate any type of push for its star running backs.

In Week 5, Stewart received just eight carries as the team was down big. He only rushed for 30 yards. He caught just one pass for four yards.

Again, it would appear the only way Stewart could meet expectations is if DeAngelo is traded so that at least Stewart could get all of the carries.

Carolina has a bye week to try and get things together, but that is highly unlikely. They return Week 7 against San Francisco, which isn’t the most favorable match up due to the lack of receiving threats in Carolina.

Next year is when Stewart will finally break out.

Chris ‘Beanie’ Wells, ARZ

Easily one of the biggest disappointments to open the season.

Fantasy owners knew Wells suffered a knee injury in the preseason finale.

What they didn’t know was that Wells proceeded to have surgery on his knee and would miss the first two weeks of the season.

Wells has been rusty to open the season.

Against the New Orleans Saints, though, Wells finally got what he wanted. He received 20 carries and rushed for just 35 yards, an appalling 1.8 yard per carry average.

Luckily, Wells has a bye to get healthy and ready for Week 7. I would not expect one of my breakout running backs to play this poor. I actually expect him to excel the rest of the way and provide a major assistance to rookie quarterback Max Hall and Larry Fitzgerald.

Still, Wells is near rock bottom and needs to show me something before I put him back in my fantasy line up.

Other Notable Performances and Notes:

Cadillac Williams, TB: 11 carries, 33 yards

Arian Foster, HOU: 11 carries, 25 yards, 2 receptions, 2 yards

C.J. Spiller, BUF: 5 carries, 31 yards, 1 reception, 3 yards

Marion Barber, DAL: 6 carries, 19 yards

Thomas Jones, KC: 8 carries, 19 yards

Joseph Addai, IND: Questionable Week 6 (neck/shoulder)

Last Week’s Falling RBs in Week 5:

Ray Rice, BAL: 27 carries, 133 yards, TD, 4 receptions, 26 yards

Matt Forte, CHI: 22 carries, 166 yards, 2 TD, 2 receptions, 22 yards

WR:

Chad Ochocinco, CIN

I did not predict that Ochocinco and Carson Palmer would be this poor to open the season.

Ochocinco appeared to be on the fast track Week 1 against the New England Patriots. He had 12 receptions for 159 yards and one touchdown.

Since then, it has been the T.O. Show in Cincinnati while Ochocinco is still searching for his ‘ultimate catch.’

In the past four games, Ochocinco has 14 receptions for 157 yards and zero touchdowns.

The chemistry between Palmer and Ochocinco has shifted to Owens.

In the past two games, Owens has totaled 17 receptions for 324 yards and two touchdowns.

Defenses have shifted Chad’s way, leaving Owens to work one on one most of the year, something he has rarely seen in his career.

While Owens is thriving, Ochocinco has been, despite being healthy, a fantasy liability to open the season.

Owners have to hope the bye week will be just what Ochocinco needs to begin to meet fantasy expectations.

Greg Jennings, GB

I had Jennings penciled in as a top five fantasy receivers this season. I believed he would be the key target for my No. 1 fantasy QB, Aaron Rodgers.

Jennings has been squeaking bye but has yet to have a breakout game.

In Week 5, I thought he had a beatable match up against the Washington Redskins.

Instead, Jennings failed miserably. He caught two passes for 22 yards.

Jenning was squeaking bye this season as he has touchdowns in three of five games. However, he has only topped 80 yards one this season and has only caught five passes in one game. He has caught just two passes in each of the past three games.

News out of Green Bay is that Rodgers is questionable to play Week 6.

With Jermichael Finley out at least three weeks, Jennings will see even more defensive attention. He could be double teamed often, meaning his fantasy production could continue to disappoint.

Other Notable Performances and Notes:

Anquan Boldin, BAL: 1 reception, 8 yards

Johnny Knox, CHI: 1 receptions, 14 yards

Dez Bryant, DAL: 3 receptions, 22 yards

Dwayne Bowe, KC: 2 receptions, 33 yards

Lance Moore, NO: 1 reception, 8 yards

Mark Clayton, STL: Placed on Injured Reserve (knee)

Calvin Johnson, DET: Questionable Week 6 (shoulder)

Demaryius Thomas, DEN: Questionable Week 6 (head/neck)

Last Week’s Falling WRs in Week 5:

Marques Colston, NO: 7 receptions, 97 yards

Jeremy Maclin, PHI: 6 receptions, 95 yards

DeSean Jackson, PHI: 2 receptions, 24 yards, 1 carry, 8 yards

TE:

Jermichael Finley, GB

My third tight end entering the season is expected to miss at least three weeks after undergoing knee surgery.

Finley left Week 5 early and never returned with the knee injury. I wouldn’t expect Finley back until after the Packers’ Week 10 bye.

Jermichael Finley’s season stalls with 21 receptions, 301 yards, and one touchdown.

Finley was a monster late last season returning from injury. Owners need to hang on to this mammoth tight end although it is a huge loss to their fantasy team.

Donald Lee also suffered a shoulder injury Week 5 and is expected to miss at least two weeks.

Andrew Quarless was serviceable in their place Week 5 if looking for the next Green Bay tight end to pick up.

If available, Marcedes Lewis, Brandon Pettigrew, and Tony Moeaki are solid replacements.

Other Notable Performances and Notes:

Dallas Clark, IND: 3 receptions, 20 yards

Owen Daniels, HOU: 3 receptions, 45 yards

Visanthe Shiancoe, MIN: 2 receptions, 28 yards

Dustin Keller, NYJ: 2 receptions, 14 yards

Last Week’s Falling TE in Week 5:

John Carlson, SEA: BYE

Denard Robinson wasn’t the same player most experts anointed as the Heisman trophy favorite a few weeks ago.

Robinson completed 17 of 29 passes (58.6 completion percentage) for just 215 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions, while rushing 21 times for 84 yards and a touchdown as Michigan lost to Michigan State 34-17.

Although it wasn’t a terrible game, he was not as efficient as he has been throughout the season. Combine that with the loss, and many are now questioning his stranglehold on the Heisman trophy.

Here are five players whose stock is on the rise.

5. Justin Blackmon, Oklahoma State

Although there is a chance he may not be in New York this winter hoping to win the Heisman, Justin Blackmon deserves to be mentioned for his excellent play in five games this season.

Against Louisiana-Lafayette Blackmon caught a season high 13 passes for 190 yards and two touchdowns.

Blackmon deserves praise for his amazing play in five games.

On the season, Blackmon has 47 receptions for 748 yards and 11 touchdowns. He is tied for second in receptions and is second in yards. He leads the nation with 11 receiving touchdowns and is averaging 149.6 yards per game.

4. Cameron Newton, Auburn

Although the Tigers barely defeated Kentucky to stay undefeated, a win is a win and it was all thanks to quarterback Cameron Newton.

Newton was not as effective in the passing game as he has been previously during the season. He failed to throw a touchdown and threw one interception en route to completing 13 of 21 passes for a 61.9 completion percentage.

However, when a quarterback not named Denard Robinson rushes 28 times for 198 yards and a whopping four touchdowns, people need to take notice.

For the season, Newton has put up fantastic numbers.

Newton has thrown for 1,138 yards, 15 touchdowns and five interceptions while completing 64.8 percent of his passes. More impressive, Newton has rushed 104 times for 672 yards and nine touchdowns.

Auburn will go on to battle Arkansas and LSU in the next two games, which could ultimately decide whether or not Newton gets an invite to New York.

3. Kellen Moore, Boise State

The leader of the No. 2 team in my BCS Rankings, Kellen Moore deserves to be up there with the rest of the Heisman hopefuls.

Moore has been excellent over the past calendar year throwing three touchdowns in every game except one.

Speaking of one, Moore has only thrown one interception this season.

One. One interception.

In the 43 point blowout of Toledo, Moore completed a season high 72.7 percent of his passes and threw for 267 yards and three touchdowns.

For the year, Moore has completed a 67.4 percent of his passes for 1,336 yards, thrown for 14 touchdowns and of course, just one interception.

This type of effectiveness has the Broncos rolling and makes Moore one of my easiest choices as a Heisman hopeful.

2. LaMichael James, Oregon

James may be the best running back in the Nation at the moment.

In five games this season he has rushed for over 100 yards in all but one (he was shy just six yards Week 4), and has rushed for over 200 yards twice.

Additionally, LaMichael James’ 848 rushing yards ranks second nationally, trailing only Denard Robinson. He is also tied for third with nine rushing touchdowns, and leads the nation in average rushing yards with 169.6 per game.

Against Washington State, he carried the rock 25 times for 136 yards and two touchdowns. He also caught two passes for 87 yards and a touchdown.

Simply fantastic.

1. Terrelle Pryor, Ohio State

Despite his rough game, Robinson may still be my Heisman favorite.

However, if Robinson is my 1A, Terrelle Pryor is 1B.

Pryor has been fantastic this season leading Ohio State to an undefeated mark and the No. 1 spot on my BCS Rankings.

Against Indiana this past weekend, Pyror completed 80 percent of his passes for 334 yards and three touchdowns.

On the season, Pryor is completing 68.0 percent of his passes for 1,349 yards, 15 touchdowns and three interceptions. Additionally, he has rushed for 354 yards on 57 carries for three touchdowns.

Most importantly, Pyror is finally displaying the leadership I wasn’t sure I would see.

Pryor could very well lead his team to a BCS Championship after winning the Heisman trophy.

Which team deserves to be No. 1 in the BCS Rankings after Week 6?

With Nick Sabana’s Alabama Crimson Tide 19 game-win streak falling to Steve Spurrier’s South Carolina Gamecocks, the BCS Rankings have been thrown for a bit of a loop for the first time this season.

The other top five teams were once again dominant and are grinning as they move up the ranks.

Which teams deserve to be in the top five now?

How far does Alabama drop with its loss?

Which team sits atop the BCS Rankings as the clear cut No. 1 team in the Nation?

Here are my top five.

5. Alabama Crimson Tide

Despite a rather surprising loss to No. 19 South Carolina and Oklahoma holding its own to open the season, I still have to consider Alabama a top-five team.

Although they lost, I would probably take Alabama to beat any team ranked ahead of them except for Ohio State.

Mark Ingram and Trent Richardson is a lethal combination at the running back position.

The team had previously won 19 straight games, including the Nation Championship, and looked like they had a great opportunity to win it all again.

Of course, many will have Alabama ranked lower due to the loss.

Looking at every team, however, I still feel the need to put Alabama in the top five.

4. TCU Horned Frogs

TCU turned in another fantastic performance in Week 6.

TCU completed its second straight shutout in a 45-0 victory over Wyoming.

Quarterback Andy Dalton turned in a big game, completing 82.4 percent of his passes. He was 14 for 17 with 270 yards and three touchdowns.

Running back Ed Wesley has been the most productive player for TCU, rushing for 612 yards and seven touchdowns through six games.

TCU currently averages over 41 points per game while giving up just over 10 points a game. Although they haven’t had a rough schedule, they have been too dominant not to be in the top four.

3. Oregon Ducks

Although the Ducks have been extremely impressive, I still can’t put them No. 2 just yet.

The Ducks have been absolutely explosive, averaging an unbelievable 54 points per game.

The defense does have one shutout under its belt, but have fallen off in the past three games.

The defense doesn’t concern me as I’m sure it does others.

The combination of quarterback Darron Thomas (1,213 yards, 14 touchdowns, five interceptions) and LaMichael James (848 yards, 10 total touchdowns) appears too much for other defenses to stop.

Still, I can’t bump them ahead of my top two teams just yet as I trust them more.

2. Boise State Broncos

I don’t like faulting a team for its schedule.

Boise State does everything it needs to do to be ranked high but very few give them the respect because of who they play.

Although they have played two ranked teams thus far, those looking ahead at the schedule will see just one more ranked team and an easy schedule.

They have completed one shutout and have scored over 50 points in half of their games.

Quarterback Kellen Moore has been excellent. He has thrown for 1,339 yards, 14 touchdowns, and just one interception.

The Broncos should go undefeated and based on their performances to date, are my No. 2 team.

1. Ohio State Buckeyes

The true No. 1 team in the Nation.

Ohio State has been simply dominant this season.

Terrelle Pryor as of late has been everything he was billed to be. Pryor currently has a 170.5 QB Rating and is completing 68.0 percent of his passes. He has thrown for 1,349 yards, 15 touchdowns, and just three interceptions. Pryor has rushed for 354 yards and three touchdowns as well.

He is currently making a case to be Heisman candidate.

With this offensive juggernaut, Ohio State has cruised past its previous opponents. They look as unstoppable as any other team in the Nation.

After breathing down Alabama’s neck for the entire season, they rightfully move up to No. 1 this week.

Randy Moss was surprisingly traded last Wednesday from New England to Minnesota.

Marshawn Lynch, one of the top candidates to be traded prior to the season, was finally traded from Buffalo to Seattle last week as well.

With the NFL trade deadline quickly approaching, it is time to take a look at the top five players who should be traded.

These are based on team situations and where a player would be best fit for this season and the future.

5. Brandon Jacobs, NYG

There may not be a player more upsetting to watch over the past two seasons than Brandon Jacobs.

For a man the size of Jacobs, with his power and speed, he should be dominating. However, Jacobs has not shown that he is willing to dominate since the Giants wrongfully rewarded him his hefty contract. This contract will prevent teams from trading for Jacobs, meaning the Giants are stuck with him.

I could only hope that Jacobs gets angry on the field again instead of crying on the sidelines. He has been a distraction the entire season. He has danced behind the line of scrimmage for over a year instead of putting his head down and powering through defenders. He is clearly afraid of getting hurt again.

It is tough to find a team who would actually trade for Jacobs. I do think his best fit could be in Tampa Bay, who needs the combination of a change of pace and short yardage back.

Although LeGarrett Blount is there, I think Tampa Bay would give Jacobs the best opportunity to try and capture a starting job. Cadillac Williams is not the definition of a workhorse back due to the unfortunate injuries he has suffered throughout his career.

4. Kevin Kolb, PHI

The saying goes: If you have two quarterbacks, you don’t have a quarterback.

For the first time, Kevin Kolb showed some resemblance of a professional quarterback.

Michael Vick has shown that he can be the MVP of the league.

Michael Vick has excelled in Andy Reid’s offense. He has worked with three of the best receivers in his career (LeSean McCoy, DeSean Jackson, and Jeremy Maclin) and dominated.

The Eagles beat the 49ers Week 5, but I was not impressed with the victory.

The threat that Michael Vick presents over Kevin Kolb is too great in my eyes to keep Kolb over Vick.

Vick still has years left in him. He has looked more impressive than ever before throwing the football.

In my eyes, Vick is clearly the way to go.

Meaning, Kolb has to go.

Several teams need a quarterback presently and in the future. Buffalo, Seattle, Minnesota, and Arizona.

I don’t see ‘Clipboard Jesus’ Charlie Whitehurst as the future in Seattle. Kolb may do well with Pete Carroll’s enthusiasm and the tutelage of veteran Matt Hasselbeck.

3. Shawne Merriman, SD

When the Chargers drafted Larry English, many thought Shawne Merriman would be gone.

He stayed in San Diego but hasn’t been the same player he once was. In his first three seasons he had 39.5 sacks in 42 games.

He only played in one game three years ago, but only had four sacks in 14 games last season.

Merriman clearly needs a chance of scenery.

Merriman could be a deadly weapon in situational packages for either the Baltimore Ravens, Pittsburgh Steelers or New York Jets.

It is tough to see San Diego trading a potential defensive threat to one of those three Super Bowl contenders.

Another fit could be in Arizona, who have had a lot of troubles on defense prior to Week 5’s victory over the New Orleans Saints.

The Cardinals defense on paper is actually good, but they have had difficulties putting it all together. ‘Lights Out’ could come in and help create a better pass rush than we’ve seen so far.

2. Vincent Jackson, SD

Ah, the obvious choice.

Everyone knows Vincent Jackson needs to be traded.

General Manager A.J. Smith once again show he doesn’t care about his players. Although I wouldn’t give Jackson the contract he is demanding, the Chargers do not have the rushing attack or receivers to make up for the defensive attention he demanded last season.

Malcolm Floyd finally turned in a big game Sunday to the tune of eight receptions for 213 yards and a touchdown. Antonio Gates added five receptions for 92 yards and a touchdown and has been an MVP candidate as far as I’m concerned.

Still, the Chargers lost to the Oakland Raiders for the first time in what seems to be forever. They lost the opener to Kansas City and are currently sitting at the bottom of the AFC West at 2-3.

If the Chargers refuse to pay Jackson, they have no reason not to trade him. Why not get something for him? They blew their chance when they had Minnesota desperately trying to acquire the disgruntled wide receiver. Well, Minnesota made off in the end when they traded a third round pick for Randy Moss, a top five receiver that Jackson is not even close to being.

Jackson could go to several teams.

One of the rumored teams were the Patriots. The Patriots are missing a deep threat with the loss of Randy Moss and Jackson would at least provide that. Still, I think Belichick realizes that Jackson is not as talented as he thinks he is and they certainly wouldn’t pay Jackson his demands.

One team I’m looking at, though, is the Chicago Bears.

When they traded for Jay Cutler two years ago, I thought they should have thrown the bank at getting Brandon Marshall too.

Chicago has lacked a quality receiver for ages. The receiving corps is mediocre at best. Devin Hester, Johnny Knox, Earl Bennett and Devin Aromashodu?

No thanks.

Jackson would instantly be the best receiver on the team. He would provide Cutler the big target he has been desperately seeking for since coming to Chicago.

Chicago somehow beat Carolina despite Todd Collins throwing four interceptions starting in place of Jay Cutler.

Chicago still leads the North at 4-1, while Green Bay sits at 3-2.

Vincent Jackson coming in for the stretch run to close the season could put Chicago over the top.

With two receiving threats on the team (Matt Forte and Jackson) and their defense, they could be a scary team to face in the playoffs.

1. DeAngelo Williams, CAR

My top choice as the Carolina Panthers are clearly going nowhere this season.

Steve Smith is hurt.

Rookie QB Jimmy Clausen is starting and not doing a good job.

The bread and butter rushing attack has been rather abysmal. The offensive line has struggled mightily.

Williams is in a contract year and has run hard since the preseason. However, it hasn’t been enough.

We all know DeAngelo won’t be back next season with Jonathan Stewart waiting to take the starting reigns.

The Panthers are clearly in rebuilding mode and could be in for a complete overhaul in the offseason. The time is now to receive something in return before they lose Williams to free agency.

The only option I foresee Williams heading to is Green Bay.

Head Coach Mike McCarthy once said that he would be fine with Brandon Jackson as the starting tail back. However, his coaching has not reiterated that. Fullback John Kuhn has received a lot of touches since Ryan Grant went down. Jackson has not been as effective as McCarthy hoped. Although Jackson rushed for 115 yards, 71 yards came on one play.

The Packers already have one of the most explosive offenses, but the rushing game is lacking.

With DeAngelo Williams’ speed, power, vision and receiving abilities, he would put them well above and beyond. The offensive threats would be too much for most defenses to overcome. Williams would be one of the best compliments of Rodgers’ offensive.

After the Packers lost to the Washington Redskins, a team they should beat every time, they should make the move to acquire one of the best running backs in the league.

Risers:

QB:

David Garrard, JAX

Perhaps the Jaguars claiming Trent Edwards off wires last week lit a fire underneath the waning QB.

Garrard was on point Week 4 in the upset of the Colts.

Garrard completed 17 of 22 attempted passes (77.3 completion percentage) for 163 and two touchdowns. Garrard also rushed five times for 44 yards, including an elusive 25 yard touchdown run. Garrard also did not turn the ball over once.

With a trip to Buffalo, who was just demolished by the New York Jets who play a similar style as Jacksonville, Garrard could once again produce top QB numbers.

Keep in mind that Garrard did this without completing one pass to Mike Sims-Walker, the best receiver on the team. Garrard could be in for a career day, unless Maurice Jones-Drew does all the scoring, of course.

Kevin Kolb, PHI

Kolb rises despite a dreadful performance relieving Michael Vick.

Still, Kolb will start for the Eagles Week 5 against the San Francisco 49ers.

I do not expect Kolb to perform well, especially if his Week 4 favorite target LeSean McCoy is forced to miss the game with a rib injury.

With a week of preparation and first team reps with DeSean Jackson, Jeremy Maclin, and Brent Celek, perhaps Kolb can remotely form some type of chemistry with one of the better receiving groups in the league.

Other Notable Performances and Notes:

Sam Bradford, STL: 23 for 41 (56.1 completion percentage), 289 yards, 2 TD, INT

Shaun Hill, DET: 34 for 54 (63.0 completion percentage), 331 yards, 2 TD, 2 INT

Carson Palmer, CIN: 25 for 36 (69.4 completion percentage), 371 yards, 2 TD, 2 Fumbles

Bruce Gradkowski, OAK: 24 for 39 (61.5 completion percentage), 278 yards, 2 TD, 2 INT, Fumble

Ryan Fitzpatrick, BUF: 12 for 27 (44.4 completion percentage), 128 yards, 2 TD, 74 rush yards

Max Hall, ARZ: Could start Week 5 in place of Derek Anderson

Jake Delhomme, CLE: Will start Week 5 if healthy (ankle)

Ben Roethlisberger, PIT: Returns from suspension

Last Week’s Rising QBs in Week 4:

Kyle Orton, DEN: 35 for 50 (70.0 completion percentage), 341 yards, 2 TD, INT

RB:

Ryan Torain, WAS:

Torain put in a great performance Week 4.

Torain was dominant, running with immense power and very good vision. He absolutely demolished Quintin Mikell on his 12 yard touchdown run.

Torain received 18 carries and rushed for 70 yards including the touchdown.

Altough Torain might not be involved heavily in the passing attack, he is familiar with Mike Shanahan’s system. Torain is a one cut, uphill runner. He will be relied on to carry the load with Clinton Portis suffering from a groin injury.

If the Redskins offensive line can give Torain a few holes, he could be a fantasy star with his power.

One of my deep sleepers for the season, it is good to see Torain is being given an opportunity.

Torain would be my No. 1 waiver add this week if available. Do not hesistate.

LaDainian Tomlinson, NYJ

It was a surprise to some, but Tomlinson was fantastic Week 4 against the Buffalo Bills.

Tomlinson was once again great on the ground, displaying good speed, vision and juking ability. He left Donte Whitner face first on the ground on his 26 yard touchdown run.

Tomlinson was also effective in the passing game, receiving plenty of targets. He made a spectacular one handed grab off the side of his leg, proving he is still an elite receiving running back.

Tomlinson rushed 19 times for 133 yards and two touchdowns. He added three receptions for 22 yards.

Tomlinson is the goal line back for New York and will receive a lot of opportunities to score in the red zone. He was also the target of one of Mark Sanchez’ throws into the end zone.

Although the Week 5 Monday night game against the Minnesota Vikings will be a much more difficult task for the entire Jets offense, Santonio Holmes’ return should assist Tomlinson in both the rushing and receiving attack.

Other Notable Performances and Notes:

Ricky Williams, MIA: 8 carries, 56 yards, 4 receptions, 45 yards, TD

Shonn Greene, NYJ: 22 carries, 117 yards

Danny Woodhead, NE: 8 carries, 36 yards, 1 reception, 11 yards, TD (new Kevin Faulk?)

Ahmad Bradshaw, NYG: 23 carries, 129 yards, TD, 2 receptions, 14 yards, Fumble

Joseph Addai, IND: 16 carries, 63 yards, 2 TD, 3 receptions, 19 yards

Michael Bush, OAK: 7 carries, 40 yards, TD, 2 receptions, 16 yards (Could start Week 5)

Marshawn Lynch, SEA: Traded to Seattle Seahawks October 5

Knowshon Moreno, DEN: Tentatively expected to play Week 5

Last Week’s Rising RBs in Week 4:

Peyton Hillis, CLE: 27 carries, 102 yards, TD, 2 receptions, 8 yards

Benjarvus Green-Ellis, NE: 16 carries, 76 yards, TD

Laurence Maroney, DEN: 11 carries, 5 yards, Fumble

WR:

Terrell Owens, CIN

Terrell Owens, one of the most prolific receivers in NFL history, has finally emerged in Cincinnati.

After three lackluster games for Owens’ own standards, T.O. had one of the best games of his career Week 4.

Owens caught 10 passes for 222 yards and a touchdown.

Owens was dominant, streaking up the sideline for a 78 yard touchdown on which Browns cornerback Eric Wright fell down allowing Owens to walk in.

Owens also went over the middle of the field in this game, something the Bengals will need him to do often. Owens was breaking tackles and making Browns defenders miss left and right.

With a great match up against an improving Tampa Bay defense, Owens should have another great game Week 5.

Santonio Holmes, NYJ

The New York Jets’ offense is finally clicking.

Now, they’ll add one of the more dynamic receivers in the game, former Super Bowl MVP Santonio Holmes.

Santonio Holmes will be able to stretch the field for Mark Sanchez, but is always willing to go over the middle. His speed, quickness and agility present a combination nightmare for most corners in the league.

While Dustin Keller will always be Sanchez’ favorite target, look for Sanchez and offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer to get the explosive Holmes involved early.

Other Notable Performances and Notes:

Reggie Wayne, IND: 15 receptions, 196 yards, Fumble

Brandon Lloyd, DEN: 11 receptions, 115 yards

Davone Bess, MIA: 9 receptions, 93 yards, TD

Eddie Royal, DEN: 8 receptions, 113 yards, TD

Harry Douglas, ATL: 3 receptions, 59 yards, TD

Last Week’s Rising WRs in Week 4:

Lance Moore, NO: 5 receptions, 37 yards, TD, Fumble

Roy Williams, DAL: Bye

TE:

Zach Miller, OAK

Zach Miller was one of the biggest sleeper tight ends heading into the season.

He finally blew up.

Miller caught 11 passes for 122 yards and a touchdown.

Miller has the talent and opportunity to near these totals each week. Miller is a big target with reliable hands and is easily the best receiving option for Bruce Gradkowski.

Miller won’t have as much room to work as the San Diego secondary is far better than the Houston secondary. Still, start Miller with confidence after his monster game.

Other Notable Performances and Notes:

Joel Dreessen, HOU: 5 reception, 73 yards, TD

Brandon Pettigrew, DET: 8 receptions, 91 yards

Tony Scheffler, DET: 6 receptions, 63 yards

Anthony Fasano, MIA: 5 receptions, 67 yards

Benjamin Watson, CLE: 6 receptions, 60 yards

Last Week’s Rising TE in Week 4:

Tony Moeaki, KC: Bye

Fallers:

QB:

Jay Cutler, CHI

Cutler is human afterall.

Cutler exploded out of the gate this season and was one of the top fantasy quarterbacks. He was making a lot of fantasy players look foolish for letting him slip in drafts with Mike Martz coaching him.

Week 4 was one of the roughest games of Cutler’s career.

He threw for just 42 yards on eight for 11 completed passes but also threw an interception and was knocked out of the game in the second quarter with a concussion.

Cutler is questionable Week 5 against the Carolina Panthers.

If he is to play, subdued numbers would have to be expected.

Other Notable Performances and Notes:

Matt Hasselbeck, SEA: 20 for 36 (55.6 completion percentage), 191 yards, INT, Fumble

Donovan McNabb, WAS: 8 for 19 (42.1 completion percentage), 125 yards, TD, INT

Derek Anderson, ARZ: 7 for 14 (50.0 completion percentage), 64 yards, 2 INT

Alex Smith, SF: 21 for 32 (65.6 completion percentage), 188 yards, TD, 2 INT

Michael Vick, PHI: Expected to miss anywhere between two and six weeks (rib, wrist)

Last Week’s Falling QB in Week 4:

Eli Manning, NYG: 18 for 30 (60.0 completion percentage), 195 yards

RB:

Ray Rice, BAL

Ray Rice has been extremely disappointing through the first quarter of the season.

Rice is currently suffering from a knee injury but declared himself healthy enough to play.

Most owners would have preferred if Rice just sat the game against a tough Pittsburgh defense.

Rice was ineffective due to the knee injury and the Steel Curtain. He rushed eight times for 20 yards and caught one pass for nine yards.

Meanwhile, a healthy Willis McGahee scored a nine yard touchdown and rushed for 39 yards on 14 carries. McGahee also fumbled and caught two passes for two yards.

Rice has a good match up this week against Denver, but with his knee still bothering him, it will be difficult for last year’s breakout superstar to have a fantastic game.

He also follows up this match up with games against New England and Buffalo, two defenses he should be able to exploit as he tries to rebound from a disappointing opening.

Matt Forte, CHI

As many expected, the Chicago Bears running game is almost non-existent with Mike Martz as offensive coordinator.

Without his involvement in the passing game, Forte does not do much else behind an offensive line that still can’t generate much of a push to open running lanes.

The New York Giants defense played at Super Bowl caliber Week 4.

Forte was held to just 26 yards on 12 carries and two receptions for seven yards.

With Cutler and Todd Collins under so much pressure throughout the game and the Giants’ secondary playing arguably its best game of the season, it is concerning that Forte did not receive the LeSean McCoy treatment and catch a lot of check down passes.

If Cutler is forced to miss time healing from his concussion, Forte could be in for a long day as he would become the main focal point for defenses due to his versatility.

Other Notable Performances and Notes:

Beanie Wells, ARZ: 5 carries, 19 yards

Justin Forsett, SEA: 19 carries, 65 yards, 2 receptions, 10 yards

Chris Johnson, TEN: 19 carries, 53 yards, 3 receptions, 11 yards, Fumble

Cedric Benson, CIN: 15 carries, 60 yards

Brandon Jackson, GB: 9 carries, 33 yards, 1 reception, 1 yard

Darren McFadden, OAK: Could miss Week 5 (hamstring)

Julius Jones, FA: Released by Seattle Seahawks October 5

Last Week’s Falling RBs in Week 4:

Cadillac Williams, TB: Bye

Clinton Portis, WAS: 11 carries, 55 yards, 2 receptions, 26 yards, left game (groin)

WR:

Marques Colston, NO:

A major concern for fantasy players looking into Colston was always the fact that Drew Brees loves to spread the ball around. Although Colston is the No. 1 target for Brees because he is a huge target with great body control and hands, he has been a huge disappointment in the first four games.

Colston has failed to score this season and in Week 4 had just four receptions for 36 yards. Drew Brees refuses to force the rock his way as his other receivers can find holes in the coverage because the defense is shifted to stop Colston.

While I expect Colston to finally break out against Arizona this week, there is no denying his placement on the falling list.

DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin, PHI:

I have been down on Kevin Kolb since the Eagles drafted him. It has been made crystal clear since the preseason that Kolb has zero chemistry with his receivers, cannot read defensive coverage and is lacking the trust in his receivers to get open.

His accuracy has been terrible and he failed to demonstrate any arm strength in Week 4 aside from the final Hail Mary attempt.

Until Kolb finally resembles a professional quarterback or Michael Vick returns, I would not expect the Philadelphia receivers to excel like they were with Vick.

Other Notable Performances and Notes:

Johnny Knox, CHI: 1 reception, 26 yards

Mike Wallace, PIT: 2 receptions, 24 yards

Hines Ward, PIT: 2 receptions, 14 yards

Santana Moss, WAS: Held without a reception

Randy Moss, NE: Held without a reception

Mike Sims-Walker: Held without a reception

Steve Smith, CAR: 2 receptions, 11 yards, Expected to miss Week 5 (leg)

Last Week’s Falling WRs in Week 4:

Michael Crabtree, SF: 5 receptions, 58 yards

Robert Meachem, NO: 2 receptions, 16 yards; 1 rush, 7 yards

TE:

John Carlson, SEA

Carlson is one of the more talented receiving tight ends in the league, but has failed to live up to his sleeper potential thus far.

Arguably the best receiver on his team, Matt Hasselbeck is failing to get Carlson involved.

Carlson finished with just one reception for 15 yards in a game in which he could dominate the St. Louis secondary. It is interesting that Hasselbeck and head coach Pete Carroll are failing to exploit the mismatch that John Carlson presents against opposing defenses.

At the moment, Carlson is nothing more than an underrated tight end with limitless potential stuck in a poor offense unable to feed him the rock.

Until they find ways to get Carlson involved, this sleeper candidate will stay sleeping for some time.

Other Notable Performances and Notes:

Kevin Boss, NYG: 1 reception, 11 yards

Heath Miller, PIT: 2 receptions, 32 yards

Todd Heap, BAL: 3 receptions, 35 yards

Rob Gronkowski, NE: 1 reception, 4 yards

Bo Scaife, TEN: 2 receptions, 27 yards

Last Week’s Falling TE in Week 4:

Owen Daniels, HOU: 1 reception, 8 yards
