When the Caps have an off period it seems to be insurmountable

Although the Caps won in overtime tonight against the Florida Panthers 6-5, period-wise they went 1-1-1, they lost the first period, tied in the second and won the third. In total for the season after tonight, in terms of periods, Washington has won fifteen periods, lost sixteen, and tied eight, why are they only 4-8-1 on the year right now? Three nights after being embarassed in the opening game 6-3 by Tampa Bay the Caps did not seem to do much better tonight as they drop their home opener to the Winnipeg Jets 4-2. The loss tonight ended a streak of ten straight home opener wins for the Caps. It also marks the Caps fourth straight loss to the Jets dating back to last season. Tampa Bay continues to CAPitalize on power plays in season opener

Last year Tampa Bay scored almost 90 percent of the time on the power play against the Capitals and tonight was no different as they scored three goals out of their six on power plays to defeat the Capitlas 6-3 in the season opener of the 2013 (2012 part lost) season. After fourteen straight wins and two no decisions that ended in losses to the O's, Red Sox pitcher Jon Lester finally suffered an official loss to the Orioles in this 4-2 Orioles victory.
