Drew Brees had another big game as the New Orleans Saints beat many's preseason favorites the Philadelphia Eagles 48-22 at Lincoln Financial Field.

Another week another huge performance by Saints quarterback Drew Brees. Brees carved up the Eagles defense to the tune of 311 yards and 3 touchdowns. That is now 669 yards passing and 9 touchdowns through the first two games for Brees. Like the first game Brees connected with numerous receivers as he hooked up with 9 different receivers out of his 25 completions.

Marques Colston recorded 98 yards receiving and 2 more touchdowns on the day. Reggie Bush scored his first touchdown on the ground this year on a 19 yard run. The defense played good enough for a second week as they intercepted Eagles quarterback Kevin Kolb 3 times and sacked him twice as he was making his first career NFL start in place of injured Donovan McNabb.

The game was close for the first half but once the second half began the Saints offense exploded to put the game away. This win puts the Saints in a first place tie at 2-0 with the Atlanta Falcons as they get ready to travel to Buffalo next Sunday for a game with the Bills who are coming off a week 2 win against Tampa Bay.

Things couldn't look better for the Saints as they travel into the city of brotherly love. Donovan McNabb injured his ribs last week in a victory over the Carolina Panthers and the return of Michael Vick to the pro field is not until next week. So New Orleans gets to play a tough NFC foe with backup quarterback Kevin Kolb taking the snaps from under center and recently signed Jeff Garcia who use to run the Eagles back in 2006 when McNabb was injured.

Drew Brees is looking to improve on his week 1 start where he threw for 358 yards and 6 touchdowns. The Eagles are coming off of a 5 interception game against Carolina so I look for the Saints to do some in the passing game but may look to rely on the running game. Mike Bell will look to add to his impressive week one and rush for another 100 yards while Reggie Bush needs to try and get on track as he only had 14 yards rushing last week against Detroit.

Philadelpha will probably be looking to do much of the same with Kolb taking snaps. This means that Brian Westbrook and rookie LeSean McCoy will be getting a heavy workload in hopes of bringing the Eagles record to 1-1 on the season. My prediction is the Saints win a tough road game and move to 2-0 by beating the Eagles 21-17.

Drew Brees had a career day as the Saints beat the worst team in the NFL the Detroit Lions 45-27.

Brees passed for 358 yards and 6 touchdowns tying an NFL record for most td's in an opening game of the season. Brees connected with 5 different receivers on the 6 tosses including 2 to tight end Jeremy Shockey who recorded his first career td in a Saints uniform since being traded their last season. Devery Henderson, Marques Colston, Heath Evans and Robert Meachem recoded the other 4 touchdowns from Brees.

Mike Bell resurrected his NFL career with 143 yards on the ground. After a great rookie year in Denver in 2006, Bell had fallen on some hard times until he caught fire yesterday. Former Heisman winner Reggie Bush seemed to be insignificant in the opener as he rushed for only 14 yards and had 55 receiving yards to go along with 2 fumbles one of which he lost. Although the Saints won they still gave up 27 points to the Lions but the one bright spot on defense was the 2 interceptions newly acquired Darren Sharper had.

Rookie and #1 overall draft pick Matthew Staffords day didn't go quite as planned. The quaterback out of the University of Georgia completed about 50% of his passes for 205 yards and 3 interceptions. Calvin Johnson accounted for almost half of Staffords passing yards with 90 receiving yards.

The Saints will look to make it 2-0 next week as they travel to Philadelphia to take on the Eagles who may be without starting quarterback Donovan McNabb who broke a rib Sunday against Carolina.

These four stats lead to an opening day contest as the Detroit Lions travel to play the New Orleans Saints. Detroit will be looking to put a terrible 2008 season behind them as they became the first NFL team to go through an entire season without winning a game and going 0-16. They will be putting their hopes on rookie and #1 overall pick out of the University of Georgia quaterback Matthew Stafford to bring some relevance to a team and some hope to a city who hasn't had anything to cheer about football wise since Barry Sanders retired in 1998.

For New Orleans the sky is the limit with a potent offense led by 5000 yard passer Drew Brees and his plethora of offensive options such as Marques Colsten, Devery Henderson, Jeremy Shockey and Reggie Bush. The Saints have high hopes for this season as they have had two sub-par seasons back to back coming off their 2006 NFC Championship loss to the Chicago Bears. They will also be looking to keep the last to playoff streak of the NFC South alive. Dating back to 2003 the team that has finished last the season before has gone on to make the playoffs the following year and at 8-8 last year that puts the Saints in line to keep this record going.

Come Sunday night we will not be able to determine what the season will hold for both teams as there is still a long way to go but we can get a good sense as to how these teams are going to play all season long. Can Matthew Stafford live up to the hype of being a #1 draft pick? Can the Saints get back to the dominance they had in 2006? My prediction is the Saints will have no problem hitting the 14 point spread by halftime and they will go on to have a great season and finish 11-5 and win the NFC South.

What do you get when you combine a team who has not won a NFL game since December 2007, a rookie quaterback making his first start, 107 points scored in four preseason games and a 13.5 pointspread?

You get the Detroit Lions travleling to the Big Easy to take on the New Orleans Saints. In 2008 Detoit became the first NFL team to go 0-16 in a regular season. They are looking towards rookie and the #1 overall draftpick quaterback Matthew Stafford to get them back into the win column and bring relevance back to a team who has been nothing more than a blip on the radar screen since the retirement of Barry Sanders in 1998.

Then you have the New Orleans Saints who are coming off two years of disappointment after going to the 2006 NFC Championship game where they played and got beat 39-14 by the Chicago Bears. The Saints though have huge expectations coming into this year with the return of Drew Brees who is coming off a 5000 yard passing season (the second only in NFL history along with Dan Marino).

Both teams will be going in seperate directions this year as Detroit will be looking to just win a couple games and get Matthew Stafford much needed NFL game experiance. While the Saints will be looking to do the NFC South turnaround and go from last to first in the 2009 season.

We will wait and see how Brees and the boys come to play this year and Sunday at home against Detroit will be the stepping stone for hopefully a great season.

Any potential playoff team who see's the likes of New York or Anaheim on their schedule may frighten them. Well not the Chicago White Sox, their fear comes from the bottom dwellers, teams in sole possession of a guaranteed losing season by mid-may.

The Chicago White Sox are back to the same place they were a week ago. Sitting three games behind the Detroit Tigers and battling for the division and a chance at the playoffs for a second year in a row. Prior to the opening game Friday night against the Cleveland Indians at U.S. Cellular Field, White Sox fans were buzzing that this weekend was going to propel them into first place.

This was coming off the heels of a great 5-2 record to begin the homestand against the New York Yankees and the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. After playing great against the two teams with the best records in the American League and coming within two games of first place, the Sox sights were set on beating the lowly Indians. This proved to be a tougher test than once thought, as the Sox came within one big 5th inning Saturday night from being swept right out of their home staduim. The devestaing weekend collapse to the tribe, coupled with Detroit's series win over the Minnesota Twins now has the Sox sitting three games out of first with a very favorable schedule coming up depending on how one looks at things.

The Sox next twelve games come against the Seattle Mariners, Oakland Athletics, Kansas City Royals and Baltimore Orioles. As the Sox showed baseball last week, they show up for the big games but then play down for the lesser opponents. These next two weeks will be big for Chicago as they try to make or keep ground on the AL Central race against the cellars of every division in the American League.

The only question is can the Sox perform up to their standards and come up with big wins against the teams they should be beating. Or will they have to ride it out until the end of August when they go to Boston and New York before they decide to start playing great baseball again. I guess only time will tell if the Sox can make it back to postseason play and we will find out tonight in Seattle if they take that leap forward.

He gone!!!!
