Jon “Bones” Jones

What to say about this guy.
Well, same as many people, I have been watching this kid since he first broke into the big time back at UFC 87. Up until tonight, he was stopping some mediocre competitors, including Ryan Bader, who is a great athlete and has the potential to be at the top, but isn’t there yet. Tonight he got his truest test to date. Shogun. A legend. The once dominant former Pride fighter who everyone’s seen soccer kick his opponents, and beat some of the best to ever grace the Octagon or Ring.
Shogun holds victories over Chuck Lidell, Rampage, Ricardo Arona, Kevin Randleman, 2 over Alistair Overeem and Lyoto Machida(which should be 2).
Those are some very very impressive victories. That is clearly propelling yourself to an elite status.
What did we see this evening? We saw Jon Jones completely dismantle Shogun like he was to guys like Brandon Vera and Matt Hamill.

Jon “Bones” Jones is on another level. Something superb has happened, where he’s at that Anderson Silva/GSP/Alistair Overeem type of skill and dominance. I don’t know if there any many guys in the business who could hang in the ring with Jones.
I certainly don’t think Rashad has a ice cubes chance in hell to steal that title from him.
Rampage would get destroyed.
I believe Thiago Silva would be taken down and GnP’ed.
Dan Henderson, by the time his Strikeforce contract expires, will be too old to make a real run at Jones.

The only guys I can think of to test him are Anderson Silva moving up in weight, and it would be a very tough fight for both of them.
And Fedor, if he decides to fight at 205. (Yes, i am a die hard Fedor fan)

Jon Jones is a young, amazing fighter. If you have managed to go about missing any of his fights in the UFC, make sure you go back and watch them. Or even find the fights before the UFC, equally as impressive. This kid is something special and I look forward to watching many, many more fights of his to come.

In one more attempt to become the biggest and baddest MMA organization on the planet, UFC parent company Zuffa has purchased the rights to competitor brand Strikeforce today.
Dana White says “business will run as usual”, Scott Coker, and all other Strikeforce staff members will remain in place and retain their current jobs.
He says that Strikeforce fighters will not fight under the UFC brand, and vice versa, but that could easily change.
Will we finally get to find out who the best P4P fighters in the world are?
Can Cain Velasquez defeat Alastair Overeem?
What does this do for Fedor’s career? Dana doesn’t seem to want to deal with M-1 Global.

Dana White says that he will honor all contracts in place, from Fedor to Dan Henderson.

My opinion on this deal, is as Dana says Strikeforce will continue to run as it has been, I think it will go much the way WEC did, it will be an entity of its own, just under the Zuffa banner, but give it time, and they will merge together as well. So eventually Strikeforce and the UFC will merge together I’m sure.

Strikeforce kicked off their Heavyweight tournament this evening in stunning fashion, but nothing more stunning than watch The Man, The Myth, The Legend, Fedor Emelianenko dropping his second straight fight, albeit, due to a doctor stoppage, a loss nonetheless.
Is this the end of The last Emperor in MMA? He has talked about retiring recently, and with this loss, I fear this may have been the last time we see Fedor inside the cage. I am just speculating of course, but this is clearly not the Fedor we are used to. He has fought bigger men then Silva, but just couldn’t figure out what to do on the ground tonight.
“Kharitonov treated Arlovski like Christina Aguilera treated the National Anthem” – Mauro Ranallo
At least we were treated to that incredible line by Mauro tonight, after Kharitonov destroyed Arlovski, leaving him motionless, knocked out cold in their bout. Very exciting fight.

Another big surprise tonight, was the announcment of Gina Carano’s return. In one of the most awkward interviews i’ve seen since Rampage Jackson humped the woman interviewing him a few years ago, Gina stuttered that her return was near, and also she has been doing movies. I for one, will check it out, for no other reason to just stare at her beauty.

The rest of the fights on the card were all great, older brother of Alistair Overeem,Valentijn, performed a quick neck crank on a very inexperienced opponent.
Chad Griggs continues his reign of terror as he TKO’ed Gian Villante
Shane Del Rosario pulled off a pretty slick armbar over Lavar Johnson, who was just begging Shane to take his arm home, as while mounted kept flailing his arms in your face like a wacky wavvy imflatable arm flailing tubeman from Family Guy.

Another very impressive card put on by Strikeforce(minus the stoppage of the Fedor fight). With that being said, I am starting to much rather watch a Strikeforce event than UFC event. Strikeforce fights rarely make it to the third round(more so since the departure of lay’n'pray artist Jake Shields). The UFC there are a lot more “point getters” which makes it rather unenjoyable to watch sometimes.
Strikeforce is gaining strength, and the opinion of this blogger is being shared with many MMA fans on the internet.

So, off a weekend where we saw who many consider the greatest fighter of all time in Alistair Overeem come out on top of his competition again, we now have word of a Strikeforce Heavyweight Tournament.
Where you will see names such as Fedor Emelianenko, Andrei Arlovski, Josh Barnett, Antonio Silva, Brett Rogers, Fabricio Werdum, Sergei Kharitonov, and the aforementioned Alistair “The Demolition Man” Overeem.
First round action will pit Fedor v. Silva, Overeem v. Werdum, Arlovski v. Kharitonov, and Rogers v Barnett.

These are some heavy hitters, some of the worlds best in the heavyweight division.
But here are my concerns with the tournament. What happens after Fedor demolishes Silva? He would be forced to face the winner of Overeem and Werdum, as we all know Werdum can definitely catch somebody in a flash submission, but I don’t think he will even have the chance to do that, as Alistair will just punch him into next year. So it sets up a possible Fedor v. Overeem dream match many have been waiting for a very long time to see. Why hasn’t it come to fruition? Well, Fedor’s management company M1 Global seems to always have a way of putting a halt to any deals that are brought to the table(including the UFC’s generous offer to include Fedor on their roster). So is this tournament doomed right out of the gate? Will we get in 1 round of match-ups and then see some of the MMA worlds biggest stars making excuses as to why they can’t fight? Only time will I guess.
Also, lets just hope Josh Barnett can pass a drug test this go around, we don’t want another go around of what happened last time he was slated to face Fedor and evidently cost the Affliction brand its MMA dreams.

My predictions for how this tournament will unfold are as follow for any of you betting people.

Fedor v Silva = Fedor via 2nd round (t)ko
Overeem v Werdum = Overeem via 1st round (t)ko
Arlovski v Kharitonov = Kharitonov via 3rd round decision
Barnett v Rogers = Rogers via 1st round (t)ko

Fedor v Overeem = Overeem via 3rd round decision

Karitonov v Rogers = Rogers via 3rd round decision

Overeem v Rogers = Overeem via 1st round (t)ko

Alistair Overeem will once again reigh supreme.
Well there ya go fight fans, my breakdown of the upcoming Strikeforce Heavyweight Tournament.

Also my first post, so glad to be here
