Outscoring opponents 145-31 in the their first 3 games, LSU looks just as good as any team in college football. LSU quarterback Zach Mettenberger has completed more than half of his passes thrown 15 yards or more in the last 3 games. LSU will be without RB Alfred Blue tonight, as he is still ailing from a knee injury so most of the carries will be from RB Kenny Hilliard who is averaging 8.2 yards a carry and has 6 TD’s on the ground on the season, so far. The LSU offense should be on fire and light up the scoreboard tonight as Auburn’s defense is ranked 80th in the country, letting teams average 27.3 points a game.

My prediction for the game is 45-10, LSU.

Idaho’s quarterback Dominique Blackmon threw 4 interceptions, two of which were ran back for scores by safety Roland Martin and defensive end Lavar Edwards. LSU quarterback Zach Mettenberger passed for 222 yards on 17 out of 22 attempts for 2 TD’s and 1 INT. LSU running back Kenny Hilliard rushed for 116 yards on just 11 carries, averaging 10.5 yards a carry. LSU’s defensive only gave up 39 yards on the ground and 174 yards in the air. LSU’s freshman running back Jeremy Hill made his debut tonight and rushed for two scores, a 4-yard run and an 8-yard run.

LSU’s next test will contest the Tigers vs the Tigers as their SEC opener against the Auburn Tigers held in Jordan-Hare stadium in Auburn, Alabama. Auburn will still be thankful they didn’t lose to UL-Monroe earlier today.

In LSU’s last two games, they have won by a combined score of 82-17. LSU’s deadly rushing attack is a two-headed snake no team would like to face. With junior RB Alfred Blue and sophomore RB Kenny Hilliard combining for 411 yards on the ground in two games. LSU quarterback Zach Mettenberger passed for 387 yards with 2 TD’s and 1 interception in the last two games, and with the Vandals defense ranked 51st in points against, Mettenberger’s numbers should take a big climb.

LSU should be in full swing against Idaho tonight with their conference opener against Auburn next week. Look for some good returns tonight from sophomore WR Odell Beckham Jr., who has one punt return for a TD (and one that was called back on penalty) and has the ability to break free and take it to the house.

Idaho is 0-2 and, if I was a betting man, they will be 0-3 after tonights game against LSU. Sorry Idaho fans but playing against LSU in Death Valley at night is one of the hardest things a team will ever do.

If Mathieu wanted to play for a major college program he would have to sit out for one season and then join a squad for his senior year.

Born and raised in the state of Georgia, Mettenberger made a name for himself very quickly. During his senior year at Oconee County High School, he had thrown for over 2,100 yards, 19 TDs, and only 6 interceptions. Highly recruited out of high school, Mettenberger was 4-star prospect on scout.com and ranked No. 122 in ESPN.com’s ESPNU Top 150. Getting a scholarship to attend The University of Georgia, Mettenberger was to have high hopes for the Bulldogs. But those hopes crashed very quickly when, during his freshman year, he was arrested for underage drinking then, a month later, cut from the team. Mettenberger had only thrown 11 passes as a Bulldog.

Mettenberger then transferred from UGA to Butler Community College in Kansas to play football for the Grizzlies. As a sophomore, he led the Grizzlies to the JUCO National Championship Game and finished No. 2 in the country. He threw for 2,678 yards, that year, and had 32 touchdowns with only 4 interceptions thrown. As the top rated QB coming from junior college, Mettenberger then decided to go and play for Les Miles and the LSU Tigers.

The 6’5″, 222 lbs., big-arm QB from Watkinson, GA is now ready to show everyone what he is capable of doing. In a recent interview he said, ” Being the lead quarterback, I think I have the talent. I just have to go out there and execute and show everyone that I can play this game.” During the Spring Game at LSU, Mettenberger threw for 270 yards and 2 touchdowns. With those 2 touchdowns being a 54-yard strike to WR Jarvis Landry and a 49-yard score to WR Odell Beckham, Jr. Mettenberger’s big arm will definitely open the run game for LSU and keep defenses guessing.

Mettenberger’s past troubles, hopefully, won’t be a problem for Miles and the Tigers. Mettenberger was quoted in a recent interview saying, “.. I realized that I represent more than just myself. I represent my family’s name, Louisiana State University, and my teammates. I just don’t want to let any of the close people around me down again.” Being dubbed the “Mett-siah” by some LSU fans who are grateful that the Jordan Jefferson/Jarrett Lee drama has ended, Mettenberger looks like he has all the skills to be successful quarterback for Les Miles and the LSU Fighting Tigers.
