‘Canes vs. Kings Preview
Posted on 20 Oct 2010 by Eric Cooney.
The Kings end a long rest (they haven't played since Friday) with a home game against the Carolina Hurricanes on Wednesday night. The ‘Canes are in much the opposite situation having played last night against the San Jose Sharks, a game they won 5-2. The Hurricanes have yet to play a home game (in Carolina that is) this season as they were one of the teams that started their season in...

Kings Grind, Bounce To Win Over Thrash
Posted on 13 Oct 2010 by Eric Cooney.
Despite the emerging trend of not scoring in the 1st period and allowing the first goal, the Kings fought their way to a 3-1 win over the visiting Atlanta Thrashers. The Thrashers came into L.A. with a 1-1-0 record, their win coming against a tough Caps team. Not to mention that on the same night their starting keeper had a fainting spell and was carted off the ice. (more…)

Notes from Kings 3-1 Loss to Flames
Posted on 11 Oct 2010 by Eric Cooney.
The Kings dropped the back end of their back-to-back on Sunday night to the Calgary Flames, 3-1. Similar to their season opener vs. Vancouver, the Kings didn't relent a goal until halfway through the 2nd period. The problem however, was that the Kings didn't manage to score until well into the 3rd period. It was a fairly tight game but opportunistic scoring by the Flames sunk the Kings. ...

Kings Answer Questions, Beat Canucks in S.O.
Posted on 10 Oct 2010 by Eric Cooney.
I said earlier the Kings have some questions surrounding them heading into this season. It was only one game, but the answers to those questions are a little bit clearer after a 2-1 shootout victory against Vancouver. (more…)

5 Pre-Game Questions
Posted on 9 Oct 2010 by Eric Cooney.
Tonight the Kings take on the Vancouver Canucks, a rivalry that stewed last season and will likely be a hotly contested one this season. The Canucks came out on top last year in the playoffs, but failed to get past their old foes the Blackhawks. However, this year the Canucks are the prohibitive favorites to win it all, receiving a lot of backing from hockey pundits. (more…)

Kings Embarrass Ducks, 8-3
Posted on 29 Sep 2010 by Eric Cooney.
Maybe it was their heated rivalry. Maybe it was the near opening-night roster. Maybe it was the weak Ducks line-up. Whatever it was, the Kings made sure the first meeting (albeit pre-season) with the Ducks ended in their favor. By a landslide. (more…)

Numbers from Pre-Season Games 2 and 3
Posted on 24 Sep 2010 by Eric Cooney.
The Kings dropped both of their pre-season contests on Thursday to Phoenix. The Kings “A Squad” played in Los Angeles, while the “B Squad” was in Phoenix Glendale. For the A Squad, it was their first pre-season action and sort of a tune up game. For much of the B Squad, it was their second game after beating Colorado in Denver on Tuesday. (more…)

Kings Rally, Beat Avs 4-2
Posted on 23 Sep 2010 by Eric Cooney.
The Kings faced off against a pretty strong Avs squad (at least by pre-season standards) and managed to shrug off a slow start to grab the comeback win. The Avalanche tallied in under 3 minutes, then again early in the 2nd to pull ahead by 2 goals. However, the Kings persistence paid off, netting them the last 4 goals in a row. (more…)

Kings Player Expectations
Posted on 16 Sep 2010 by Eric Cooney.
Although a team must perform as a whole, I'd like to break down expectations for each player this coming season. These are what I feel will be unspoken benchmarks the organization will expect each player to reach over a full season of play. To be completely clear, these are not predictions. Of course, injuries, suspensions, line-juggling, and all sorts of things happen that affect a players...

D2: A Prophecy?
Posted on 30 Aug 2010 by Eric Cooney.
It's been a tough summer in the hockey world. Well, it's been a relatively boring summer that is. The lack of trades and signings has made for a tedious time of hitting F5. So the other day, jonesing for a hockey fix I resorted to desperate measures; I busted out ‘The Mighty Ducks' trilogy. (more…)

King Mitchell
Posted on 25 Aug 2010 by Eric Cooney.
Well it seems that Santa got my wish list! The Kings add a key piece to their blue-line with Willie Mitchell coming into the fray. Mitchell had a few dance partners for the past few weeks, chiefly the Kings and the Caps, both of whom he visited. When it was all said and done the Kings were spared the indignity of being bridesmaids yet again. (more…)

My Kings Wish List
Posted on 24 Aug 2010 by Eric Cooney.
It seems like I can't get the song “I Am Waiting,” by The Rolling Stones out of my head these days. Every day we hockey fans get up, hoping for a morsel of news to satisfy our hockey cravings, but we instead we get crumbs. The Red Wings sign Justin Abdelkader! Alert the presses! (more…)
