8/8/88 All Over Again
Posted on 26 May 2010 by James Croft.
In case you're not watching the Cubs game tonight, they are in a power-outage delay. Get out your flashlights – it's 8/8/88 all over again. Good thing b/c it looked like it Guz was about to throw ball four.

Dempster, Lou, Not the problem
Posted on 11 May 2010 by James Croft.
I can't disagree more with the notion Lou left Dempster in too long. Or the fact that Castro isn't ready to play in the big’s. We're not talkn ‘about practice' – we're talking about, ‘playing to win the game.' Dempster has been one of the most consistent (and in my opinion) the best Cubs SP over the past 3 years. If there was ANYONE on this roster I would feel confiden...

A letter from Cubs Chairman Tom Ricketts
Posted on 3 May 2010 by James Croft.
Dear Friends, You've probably been hearing about the Toyota sign we've proposed for the back of the left field bleachers at Wrigley Field. As fans and neighbors, we want you to know why this is important to the team and how it can help preserve the Friendly Confines. As you know, Major League ballparks have historically relied on in-park signage to generate revenue. Legendary Fenway Park, older...

How Sweep was that?!?
Posted on 26 Apr 2010 by James Croft.
Talk about a tale of two series, here the Cubs entered into a series with the Mets where they had previously splattered the ball all over the park; and where the Brew Crew had put a historic beat down on the Pirates, yet the Cubs sweep' em! Not sure any one of us saw that coming; and now we have the Nats coming to town with a banged up Zimmerman and Pudge. Cubs NEED to take two of three, da...

CZ to the BP!
Posted on 21 Apr 2010 by James Croft.
I can't believe the Cubs actually had the brass to move CZ to the BP but looks like they did! I actually love the idea, I think he has the perfect mentality! I just hope this doesn't turn into a closer issue, and Lilly stays on track with his rehab. Maybe he is maturing with quotes like this, “I told Lou I want to help this team until you find somebody,” Zambrano said. “I ...

Can someone please explain to me…
Posted on 16 Apr 2010 by James Croft.
Why in the hell don't the Cubs even TRY and bunt in the bottom of the 5th after Soriano and the Font lead off the innings with singles. If Hill fails to move the runners over, surely Silva could attempt to get the runners over in scoring position, with Theriot due up. Hill strikes out, and Silva GIDP! Inning over 2 left on base – cubs down 2-1. That's how I was going to start ...

Holy Home Runs!
Posted on 16 Apr 2010 by James Croft.
It pains me that we haven’t been able to manufacture any runs, but I’ll definitely take the long balls! After an early season of nail biters and blown leads, taking 2 of 3 from the brew crew at home was just what we all needed to take our collective fingers off the panic buttons. And to quote Gordon Wittenmyer in the Sun Times, “The Cubs have led every game they've played through three s...

Bring on the Reds
Posted on 9 Apr 2010 by James Croft.
I was a change-up away from calling 2 out of 3 from Atlanta. By now, we all know about the clunker CZ threw on opening day. Leave it to the Cubs to break a 100 year-old franchise record (126 to be exact) for “Most Runs Allowed on Opening Day” (see previous blog: “Well, that sucked”). With that being said, I really liked what I saw out of the Cubs throughout the rest of the s...

Well, that sucked!
Posted on 5 Apr 2010 by James Croft.
If you had read the Cubs Preview on MLB.com here's what you would have seen, “Zambrano, who is making his fifth consecutive Opening Day start, hopes to rebound after recording a 9-7 record in 2009, his lowest win total in six seasons. He lost 15 pounds and altered his mechanics this offseason, and by all indications, the old Zambrano is back — a return that is key for the Cubs' hope...

Let’s Play Ball

BOLD PREDICTIONS Just got back into town from Cub's Spring Training. With everyone talking Phillies, Cards, and Braves, the Cubs have flown under the radar after making every prognosticator look ridiculous last year. With all the pressure on everyone else, I think the Cubs have a chance to surprise this year. I like our SP and their ability to go deep into games. I like the fact we are st...

Once more into the breach Cubs fans!
Posted on 29 Mar 2010 by James Croft.
One week from the start of the season and every Beat Reporter, Player, GM, and Sr. Analyst at the 4Letter, exudes optimism. Maybe it's the weather that gets everyone in a good mood!?! Maybe it's the fact that every negative box score gets dismissed, or chalked up to “spring training”, and every home run immediately leads to online All-Star voting… I digress. From Tempe to C...
