Hawks cream Magic as Howard sits
Posted on 13 Apr 2012 by John Morgo.
Atlanta found the perfect time to play Orlando. Wait until Dwight Howard can't play. I'm kidding. With this 109-81 pasting over the Magic, Atlanta has knocked off the Magic six straight times, although this one was the easiest. Without Howard, Atlanta went inside early and often, and the Magic didn't stand a chance. Six Hawks scored in double figures, led by Jerrano Pargo's 17 (including 5 of 8...

Hawks down Charlotte
Posted on 4 Apr 2012 by John Morgo.
The schedule maker finally took a break from beating up the Hawks. After a brutal seven-games in nine-day stretch, Atlanta had two consecutive off days, and the home team utilized the precious gift in grand fashion, blitzing the Bobcats, 120-93. Atlanta used a 34-19 second quarter to pull away and then coasted in the rout. Josh Smith finished with 24 as six players had double figures, including...

Hawks lose to Bulls
Posted on 28 Mar 2012 by John Morgo.
I just love talking about the schedule. Atlanta did win three in a row on three straight days (including that game with Utah that started Sunday and finished Tuesday). But after a day off, they lost consecutive games, first last night in Milwaukee and tonight to the Bulls. Chicago took control with a 33-19 second quarter and cruised to a 98-77 victory. Derrick Rose's groin kept him out again, b...

Schedule keeps on giving
Posted on 23 Mar 2012 by John Morgo.
It seems like every time I turn around, Atlanta is about to start a difficult stretch of the schedule. It used to be extended road trips that encompass both coasts. But this one is a real lulu. Starting with tonight's game with New Jersey, Atlanta has seven games in nine nights, starting with a three-game in three-day stretch. After the Nets, the Hawks head up to face the Wiz, turn right around...

Hawks beat the Wiz
Posted on 16 Mar 2012 by John Morgo.
While I've been preparing to watch the NCAA tourney, the Hawks came back home from their last major road trip. It started out well enough, with a win over Indiana, but it quickly derailed into a 2-4 excursion. (On the West Coast part, Atlanta beat Sacramento, but dropped games to the Clips and Nuggets). I spent the day celebrating Vandy's win over Harvard (had to get that in), I also got ready ...

Hawks lose to Detroit; Josh Smith wants out.
Posted on 9 Mar 2012 by John Morgo.
Atlanta continued their mega-round trip with a game at Detroit, and it was another close game, but this one will be an L, as Joe Johnson effort to win it at the buzzer goes for naught. The Hawks drop their second straight, 86-85. Atlanta actually played three quarters of good ball, but were outscored 26-12 in the third (That's right, 12 points in the third). While they came back and beat the Pi...

Hawks play gritty against Miami
Posted on 7 Mar 2012 by John Morgo.
After beating Indiana last night, Atlanta went down to Miami. The last time they played, it wasn't pretty. This one was a lot closer. They played nip and tuck all game. Atlanta actually had a lead in the third, but Miami got ahead late and was able to sink the key shots to stay ahead in a 89-86 win. The Hawks can hold their head high that they stayed with the Heat after flying down from Indy (P...

Hawks come back to beat Bucks
Posted on 2 Mar 2012 by John Morgo.
Atlanta sputtered going into the All-Star break, and in their first game back it was more of the same in a bad loss to Golden State. That's why I kind of got depressed when I saw that Milwaukee opened up an 11-point lead heading into the fourth quarter. But Atlanta dug deep, blitzed the Bucks in the final frame and won by 5, 99-94. Vladimir Radmanovic made a big three to give the Hawks the lead...

Atlanta loses 7 out of 10
Posted on 20 Feb 2012 by John Morgo.
The Hawks came back on my radar largely because they got back from the West Coast today. I'm kidding. Sort of. I monitored their three-game swing out there in preparation for today's matchup with the Bulls. They lost to the Lakers, which became notable only because Vanessa Bryant was there, beat Phoenix, and then (after a two-day break) lost to Portland. They're still on the road. After this af...

Braves about ready to report
Posted on 18 Feb 2012 by John Morgo.
Spring training cranks up this week. My recap of the Braves' big off-season moves goes like this: They shipped Derek Lowe to Cleveland. And that was about it. This was a club that destrcuted down the stretch, giving St. Louis a golden ticket into the playoffs when the Cards hopes were dead. We all remembered what happened next. The Cards owe Atlanta an incredible thank you (or at least a slice ...

Miami blitzes Atlanta
Posted on 12 Feb 2012 by John Morgo.
I thought about waiting until the end of the game between the Hawks and Heat before posting. Since, at the end of the third, Miami's up 88-61, I went against it. The Hawks are resilient, but even this is too much. LeBron has 23, and Dwayne has 21. Hawks announcer Steve Holman thought they were trying to force the baskets so they can pad their stats before they sit down for the rest of the game....

Hawks beat Magic in OT, try out Dampier
Posted on 10 Feb 2012 by John Morgo.
Atlanta defeated the Magic 89-87 in OT from Orlando in the first meeting of the two since their playoff series last season. While it was a terrific game, Orlando had every chance to win it, but 3′s by Jason Richardson and Jameer Nelson both missed. I really don't want to discuss this, as I would bring up the resilience that's characterized this team all season. Instead, there is news brew...
