Though the last 4 minutes of the game against the Mississippi State Bulldogs were a bit nerve-racking, Auburn finished strong.

Quarterback Barrett Trotter completed 16 for 23 with 146 yards and 2 touchdowns. Roughly a minute and a half into the game Michael Dyer scored the first rushing touchdown for the Tigers. A minute later Mississippi quarterback Chris Relf threw an interception to Demetruce Mcneal who ran 43 yards for another Auburn touchdown. After what appeared to be a heavy offensive game, Auburns defense stepped it up immensely from last week and proved so more in the 4th quarter. For the last 8 minutes of the game, Mississippi was only down one touchdown with a score of 34-41.

At 2nd and goal Auburns defense managed to stop the Bulldogs from tying the game and putting it into overtime. Though Auburn lost some of their “star” players to the NFL draft this year they still look promising. After week one Auburn fans were a little worried about the match-up with Mississippi State, but with Trotter appearing to only be improving and their defense getting stronger Auburn might not have so bad of a season in the end. As of now the Tigers look more promising than one would have thought. With head coach Gene Chizik behind them there is not telling what could happen. Bring on the Clemson Tigers in Week 3.

The Auburn Tigers gave us a nail biting week one by barely beating out unranked Utah State 42-38. In result, giving Auburn fans an unsettling feeling about the week 2 match up against #16 Mississippi State who defeated the Memphis tigers 59-14 in week one.

Auburn did not exactly give off a National Champion “vibe” with a low total of 364 yards in week one, while Mississippi State close to doubled that number with 645 total yards in almost the same amount of possession time.

In Auburn’s defense though, first time starter quarterback Barett Trotter did not look all that bad. He alone was able to claim 261 of those yards, throwing 17 for 23 with 3 touchdowns. This week we will have to see how Trotter matches up to the Bulldogs Chris Relf who threw 13 for 21 and had only 2 touchdowns. Trotter has pressure from following in Cam Newton’s foot steps but being only week 2, he has a lot of room for growth but also a lot of potential.

Auburn Tigers now enter week 2 as an unranked team, therefore Trotter needs to keep connecting with influential players like tight end Philip Lutzenkirchen and wide receivers like Travante Stallworth and Emory Blake for yardage. Also, more pressure from defense along with better coverage which was serverely lacked in week one would benefit Auburn.

Going into week 2 with a visit from the Mississippi State Bulldogs is for sure a threat against the Auburn Tigers but as head coach Gene Chizik said after which was close to bein a huge upset in week one, ”As they’ve done so many times since i’ve been here, they found a way to come back and win.” With that being said anything is possible, and all we can do now is sit back and wait for the match-up and see if Auburn can continue this winning streak and go for 17 straight wins.

Auburn’s head coach Gene Chizik is currently one of the top paid coaches in college football now making $3.5 million up from the $2.2 he was making, and Auburn fans everywhere will agree, it’s worth it! Coach Chizik has signed a 5 year contract extension with the tigers making him Auburns head coach through the 2015 season.

Former University of Central Florida defensive coordinator, Iowa state head coach, and University of Florida Alumni Gene Chizik has been Auburns head coach replacing Tommy Tuberville since 2008. In the two years Chizik has been with Auburn he has worked wonders for the Tigers taking the team from 5-7 record to 8-5 record and a victory over Northwestern in the 2010 Outback Bowl in one year.

The 2010 season was by far the best of his coaching years when he led Auburn to an undefeated season including the biggest comeback in school history when they played Alabama and went from being down 24-0 to defeat them in a 28-27 victory. Than into the SEC Championship game beating out the Oregon Ducks for the title. Chizik has a 22-5 start with Auburn and as of now they’re on a 15 game winning streak and not to mention his 4 coach of the year awards. I personally am truly honored to not only have such a remarkable head coach but also an honorable individual with astounding charisma. Looking forward to many more years with Gene Chizik as the head coach of the Auburn Tigers! War Eagle!

The 2010 National Championship game was bittersweet for Auburn Tiger fans as the undefeated Tigers beat out the Oregen Ducks 22-19. Though this day had been long awaited it was also pretty clear to the fans that our starting quarter back and Heisman trophy winner Cam Newton would not be staying with us after the season. No later than three days after the game Cam broke the news he in fact was leaving and entering for the 2011 NFL draft. Though this was no surprise to much of anyone, Auburn fans were left wondering “now what?”.

Being the 2010 National Champions, Auburn is under a lot of pressure to make sure they live up to peoples expectations. With that being said, today Auburn fans might have seen “a light at the end of the tunnel” when former North Carolina State quarterback Russell Wilson took a visit to Auburn University. Wilson played with NC State from 2007-2010 and was just released from his ahtletic scholarship. Wilson was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Rookie of the Year in 2008, and in 2010 led the ACC with roughly 274 passing yards per game. Wilson also led his team to a win in the 2010 Champs Sports Bowl over West Virginia, throwing for 275 yards and 2 touchdowns. Though his stats are impressive, there is a twist to this. Wilson also plays baseball for the Colorado Rockies, which has and could potentially get in the way of his football career. Though Wilson has yet to make a choice he claims to not be ready to give up on his football dream just yet. The question is as a fan do we want Auburn to take a chance with him?
