Quarterbacks

1)      Drew Brees

Brees at number 1? Well last season
Brees was nothing short of spectacular from a fantasy perspective and that was
in a down season. With Sean Payton back next season I believe him and Brees
will be out on a mission to prove their dominance and show that Brees is the
premier passer in the NFL. Brees will have a presumably healthy Jimmy Graham
next season which will help because Graham had a few drop issues this season
and since the Saints lack a dominant run game to control the clock the intermediate
passing game serves as an extension of the run game for them.

2)      Aaron Rodgers

Rodgers is arguably the best all around
QB in the league but his offensive line and lack of a run game limited him at
times this year because it is hard to put up big numbers from your back. I look
for the Packers to upgrade their offensive line and I like DaJuan Harris as a
running back to establish a run game so these two adjustments will help Rodgers
move back to the top of fantasy leagues as far as production.

3)      Tom Brady

Mr. Brady seems to be consistent
year in and year out as well as week in and week out, if he gets Welker back
next year and Gronkowski can stay healthy the whole year Brady is capable to
put up bigger numbers than this season. The Patriots found the run game this
season and that makes them more dangerous with play action pass and not being
able to focus as much on Brady and the pass game.

4)       Peyton Manning

Peyton came back from four neck
surgeries and didn’t skip a beat with a new team and a new offense. Manning did
not put up prolific numbers from a fantasy perspective but in his second year
in Denver I see Manning taking a step forward and building on his first season
as a Bronco.

5)      Cam Newton

Newton started off his sophomore
campaign in a bit of a slump but over the last half of the season he could be
considered one of the best fantasy players at any position when the Panthers seemed
to rediscover the run game and Newton limited his turnovers in the pass game.

The Chicago Bulls defeated the Boston Celtics Friday night 100-99 with the help of some clutch shooting from Kirk Hinrich who tied the game in the final seconds of the fourth quarter and Marco Bellinelli who hit the game winning jumper with 3.1 seconds remaining. This was also a game where their bench was a big part in the win especially in overtime with the game-winner from Bellinelli and Jimmy Butler who had 6 of his 13 points in the overtime period and was 1 of 3 bench players with double figure scoring nights. The bench scoring was a big factor in this one point game as in this game the Bulls outscored the Celtics bench 36-25 which makes a big difference when a game comes down to one point. The bench production was a key for the Bulls and was nice to see them show up and produce which might give the bench players some confidence and mojo they need to be solid contributor’s night in and night out. Aside from the bench play, the Bulls were led by Carlos Boozer who had 19 points and 20 rebounds to post the first 19+ points and 20+ rebounds effort since Charles Oakley did it in 1988. Also having good nights were Richard Hamilton who had 20 points but a bad 7 turnovers and Joakim Noah who had 14 points to go along with 13 rebounds.

As a team the Bulls shot 48.0% (26-75) from the floor and 71.9% (23-22) from the foul line compared to the Celtics who shot a respectable 41.8% (38-91) from the floor and 71.4% (20-28) from the foul line. This was a tough win for the Bulls and they should feel lucky they pulled it out because of the fact they had 21 turnovers compared to only 11 by the Celtics. Usually when you turn the ball over ten more times than the other team you’re going to be hard-pressed to pull out a victory but the Bulls found a way with the clutch late-game shooting and not giving up. This is a Bulls team that is scrappy and will play defense and fight until the buzzer; The Bulls showed that tonight for a tough victory to help prove they are going to be a force to be reckoned with once Derrick Rose returns to the lineup and gives them one of the NBA’s best back at the healm and running things.

The Chicago Bulls got a convincing 97-58 victory over the Atlanta Hawks Monday night to improve to 21-15 on the season. This was an impressive win by the Bulls and a dismal performance by Atlanta as they only had one double digit performer and failed to score 60 points in an entire game, including only scoring 5 points in the second quarter. You can attribute the defense of the Bulls as part of the reason for the low scoring output of the Hawks but it was also just one of those games where shots don’t fall and nothing seems to go your teams way. The Hawks were held to 29.3% (24-82) from the floor, including 2-14 from behind the three point line.
The Bulls were led by Carlos Boozer who had 20 points to go along with 13 rebounds as well as Luol Deng who had 18 points and Joakim Noah who had 16 rebounds. This was a solid win by the Bulls as they played well on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball and will look to continue this type of play in the games to come.

The Chicago Bulls pulled out a surprise victory over Lebron James and the Miami Heat Friday night 96-89. The Chicago Bulls can attribute this win to two things: their superior offensive rebounding and the fact that their bench out-scored Miami’s bench 33-14, which is big because their bench has struggled throughout much of the year thus far. This was a great team performance by the Bulls to help get them the victory over the defending champions and shows that the Bulls are a team to be taken serious for a run at the title once Derrick Rose returns.

The Bulls were led by Carlos Boozer as he came to play against the Heat posting 27 points to go along with 12 rebounds, including 6 offensive rebounds, as wells as Joakim Noah and Nate Robinson who both chipped in 13 points. As a team the Bulls shot a solid 45.0% from the floor (36-80) which was lower than the Heat’s percentage of 46.2% but the Heat only attempted 65 shots, making 30 of them. The Bulls had a great team effort this game as their defense was a big factor in this game as they held all of the other players besides the “big three” to 23 points total and limited Miami to 25.0% (5-20) shooting from behind the arc. This is the motto of the recent Bulls under Coach Thibodeau with solid defense and inside shooting on the offensive side.

The Bulls will hope to continue to play as well as they did against the Heat in order to keep stride and maintain a firm hold on a playoff spot during the absence of superstar Derrick Rose.

The Chicago Bulls were able to improve to 17-13 on the year, including 8-5 on the road, as they defeated the Orlando Magic 96-94 Wednesday night. The Bulls were down a starter in Joakim Noah but Taj Gibson filled in admirably with 21 points, on 8-12 shooting from the floor, to go along with 11 rebounds and 4 blocks. This was easily Gibson’s best game of the year and maybe the confidence builder that he needs to turn his season around and become a key contributor off of the bench once Joakim Noah returns to action. Gibson had a very good night but he was not the lone bright star as Carlos Boozer put up 31 points with 11 rebounds and Luol Deng also had 23 points to help key the Bulls to victory over the Magic. The bench continued to struggle this game but the Bulls have to be pleased with how well they shared the ball as they had 27 assists as a team on 36 shots and also only had 6 turnovers total for the game which usually shows the Bulls took care of the ball, minimized mistakes, and thus limited fast-break opportunities.

This was a good win for the Bulls but they had trouble defending the point guard position as Jameer Nelson had 32 points and Aaron Afflalo had 19 points to combine for 51 of the 94 points for the Magic. The Bulls ultimately got the win but the defensive struggles at the guard position have to be a worry if they continue to be a problem the next couple of games because Hinrich and Hamilton are not that young so may have lost a step or two and their minutes may need to be monitored, because the Bulls are a team that plays solid defense and they need to continue to do so in the absence of Derrick Rose.

There were four people ejected from the Bulls-Knicks game Friday night including Carmelo Anthony, Tyson Chandler, Mike Woodson, and Joakim Noah. The Bulls were able to pull out a tight 110-106 victory as they beat the Knicks for the second time this season and handed New York only their second home loss of the season and seventh overall. The Bulls improved to 15-10 on the year, including 7-4 on the road as they continue to be a better team on the road than at home thus far in the young season. The Bulls defense gave up points to Felton, Smith, and Anthony as each had over 20 points but other than those three players the rest of the team scored a combined 30 points which was one of the reasons the Bulls were able to pull out the victory and another reason could be attributed to the poor three point shooting as the Knicks were held to only 8 made three point field goals on 26 attempts, for a 30.8% three point percentage. This was a nice win for the Bulls as it will help continue to build their confidence but they still have to look at the fact that they won when the Knicks had three people ejected including MVP candidate Carmelo Anthony and Coach of the Year candidate Mike Woodson. However, a win is a win and the Bulls will continue to take them no matter how they come as they continue the awaited comeback of Derrick Rose.

The Bulls were led by Luol Deng who scored 29 points to go along with 13 rebounds and Kirk Hinrich who messed around and almost got a triple-double with 16 points, 9 rebounds, and 8 assists. These two were not the only bright spots though as every starter scored at least 9 points and Nate Robinson kicked-in 11 points off of the bench to help in the Bulls victory. Joakim Noah continued his solid play with 15 points to go along with 12 rebounds as he continues to be a key player in the Bulls victories early on in the year.

The Bulls pulled off the victory tonight but their bench still has the coaching staff and fans wanting more out of them. The bench only had 19 points tonight combined. The production had something to do with volume with not a lot of minutes but the early season struggles and lack of experience as well as depth of the bench can be to blame for Coach Thibodeau not wanting to go to them a lot. The Bulls will continue to rely on their starters at this point, it seems, but sooner or later there is going to have to be a go-to-guy for Coach Thibodeau off of the bench that he can rely on when the situation arises.

The Bulls saw their modest 3-game winning streak come to an end with their 94-89 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers Tuesday night as they fall to 11-9 overall and 6-6 at home on the young season. This was an overall good effort for the Bulls as they hung with one of the better teams in the NBA despite the absence of their superstar. The Bulls were led by Carlos Boozer who posted a double-double with 24 points and 13 rebounds as wells as Marco Bellinelli who had a solid stat line with 18 points to go along with 7 rebounds and 5 assists. The bench was once again basically a non-factor but it was more because of volume tonight as the bench played only 47 minutes combined and attempted only 15 shots. However, Taj Gibson did have a nice effort tonight with 10 points and hopefully this will get him on track to be a consistent and key contributor off of the bench.

One of the reasons the Bulls were able to keep the game close was the surprise 3-point shooting by them as they were 7-8 from behind the arc at one point but only finished up 10-20 from long distance. The Bulls lived and died by the three tonight as they hit them early but as the game progressed the Bulls had open looks from behind the line but could not capitalize as they only hit 3 of their last 12 three point attempts. The Bulls typically are one of the worse three point shooting teams in the NBA and it showed late in the game and hurt them in a close battle with the Clippers; once the Bulls started missing the open looks they should have started going with the penetration more and getting Boozer open for the mid-range jumper he was able to make with consistency tonight. Boozer will need to play this well more consistently because he is the Bulls best offensive threat with Rose down right now but we will have to wait and see if Boozer will actually play like this on a consistent basis, even though this did happen in a loss.

Joakim Noah had a monster night in the Bulls 108-104 win
over the Pistons Friday night with 30 points to go along with 23 rebounds
setting career highs in both categories to will the team to the victory. Joakim
Noah provided the energy the Bulls needed because they were getting outplayed
for most of the first half but Noah stepped up as did the rest of the starters
on a night where the bench only had 9 of the Bulls 108 points. The showing by
the bench once again highlights the rough spot for the Bulls and even though
they got the win tonight the Bulls are eventually going to need their bench to
step up because not every night will you have every starter score in double
figures. Aside from Noah the Bulls got solid performances from Carlos Boozer
with 24 points to go along with 6 rebounds, as well as Luol Deng and Marco
Belinelli who both chipped in 16 points, and the fifth starter to score double
figures was Kirk Hinrich with 13 points. The Bulls as a team were on fire tonight
as they shot a ridiculous 52.4% (43-82) from the floor and were also solid from
the line shooting 81% (17-21). This was a game where both teams shot over 51%
as the Pistons shot 51.4% (36-70) from the field which on any other night would
have probably been good enough to get the Pistons the victory but the Bulls
were just able to hit more shots and fight back from a 17 point deficit they
faced in the second quarter.

The Bulls improved to 10-8 on the season including 5-3 on
the road during this young season and I am sure they are hoping that they can
get similar production from their starters every night now since their bench
has been inconsistent and pretty much terrible this season. The Bulls are still
in search of the one player to lead and be a consistent scorer with Derrick
Rose out and maybe they can try to involve Noah more in the game plan to help
fill the void. Noah was able to put up 30 points and as Pistons coach Lawrence
Frank noted after the game it was without having a single play run for him.

The Chicago Bulls dropped to a five hundred record on the season both overall (8-8) and at home (5-5) with their 80-76 loss to the Indiana Pacers on Tuesday Night. This loss comes on the day that Tom Thibodeau announced Derrick Rose has made great progress in his comeback from an ACL injury but is still a ways from practicing, so not the best possible news for the Bulls and their fans. The Bulls were hoping for a return around Christmas time before the season started but that seems unlikely right now and the Bulls will have to continue to tread on and fight for wins without him for the time being.

The Bulls on this treacherous shooting night shot only 38.4% (28-73) from the floor but that was still better than the Pacers who shot a lowly 36.3% (29-80) from the floor as both teams were not on top of their games this evening. You can contribute some of the poor shooting to contested shots and just solid defense by both teams but the porous shooting contributed a good amount to this low scoring and sluggish affair amongst the teams.

The only bright spot of the game had to be on the Pacers side as Paul George flourished with 34 points and 9 rebounds to help be the key to the Pacers victory in this low scoring matchup. The Bulls were led by Nate Robinson with 19 points off of the bench and that was the only bright spot as the rest of the bench combined for only 6 points. As for the starters the Bulls were led by Luol Deng with 17 points as well as 7 rebounds and Carlos Boozer who had 14 points to go along with 10 rebounds. The Bulls offense continues to lack consistency as they do not have that one key player that seems to step up night in and night out when the team needs them as long as Derrick Rose is out. The Bulls bench play thus far has also been a key contributor to their mediocre start to the season because it has been subpar at best.  The Bulls do not have that player who consistently comes off the bench and provides a spark to the team to give them an edge. I feel the Bulls need that player to be Taj Gibson who has shown flashes and turned in a solid year last year but has been a non-factor much of this season and hopefully he can turn things around. The Bulls continue to play solid defense under Thibodeau but the offense continues to be the issue to their young season of mediocrity and that needs to turn around if they want to be able to hold a playoff spot during the absence of Derrick Rose.
