With only 7 races remaining the hunt to be world champion is officially GO GO GO! From the media circus following Michael Schumacher’s disappointing return to F1, to most importantly the chase to be crowned champion between 5 drivers; who has 20pts separating them. Leading after 12 events is Reb Bull Racing Mark Webber with 161PTS, followed by McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton with 157PTS, 3rd, 4th and 5th being held by Red Bull Racing’s Sebastian Vettel 151PTS, reining world champion; McLaren’s Jenson Button 147PTS & Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso with 141PTS.

News surrounding F1′s intention of adding a 13th racing team on the starting grid as of 2011, has surfaced as well. Former Canadian world F1 champion Jacques Villeneuve has speculated joining forces with the Italian “Durango Racing Team”. Other rumors believes he is joining forces with Flavio Briatore et Pat Symonds. Since, Jacques has confirmed he is partner with “DRT”. The team would be named “Villeneuve Racing” and will be in competition with “Anderson F1″, led by former designer and USF1 principal Ken Anderson & “Stefan Grand Prix” who would use a Cosworth engine should they be granted a entry. Teams such as USF1 & Lola Racing will not be applying in 2011 primary because of a lack of funds.

Up next in the F1 world is the 2010 Belgian Grand Prix from Spa-Francorchamps on August 27-29 2010.

Happy racing & be safe!!!

Back from vacation, I am ready to start my stretch drive on the Milwaukee Brewers. Lets face it, at 59-65 / 13GB of Cincinnati the Brewers are all but done this season. However, for a franchise looking towards next year September is a very important month for the future. MLB rosters are expand and the organisation can evaluate top and upcoming prospects. As for the veterans, its a last kick at the can to prove they have a place on the 2011 edition of the team.

GM, Doug Melvin & Manager Ken Macha will decide who will be called up & will build a plan to slowly integrate those young players while keeping the veterans interest throughout. 2B Brett Lawrie could get some September playing time. Lawrie who is batting .289 along with 8HR 58RBI in 123games with double A Huntsville Stars is probably the teams best fielding prospect. Along with the already graduated young players such as 24 year old SS Alcides Escobar, 24 year old CF Lorenzo Cain, 24 year old C Jonathan Lucroy & 3B Mat Gamel. Add young veterans as 3B Casey McGehee, 2B Rickie Weeks 1B Prince Fielder, LF Ryan Braun & RF Corey Hart. You have the recipe to a successful infield & outfield. Pitching prospect Amaury Rivas who is having a great year in Double A posting a 11-4 record along with a ERA of 3.37 is also a call up possibility. Closer John Axford & young prospect pitcher Zach Braddock has already been up with the team for a few weeks now and succeeding in their new home.

Where it gets though for the Brewers is at the pitching level. They don’t have much to offer in form of prospect that are close to being MLB ready. The current starting 5, except Yovani Gallardo is not pitching to a standard the team could be considered a playoff team. At best you would want Randy Wolf as your number 3 or 4 in the rotation. Chris Narveson would be best suited to battle for the 5th rotation spot along with Dave Bush and Manny Parra. The bullpen seems to be headed in the right direction. The Brewers are in need of a number 2 and 3 pitcher that will complement staff ace Yovani Gallardo to be able to contend starting 2011 for the playoffs.

Lets have some fun. Calling all Brewers fan…if you were GM who would you sign to fill out the number 2-3 hole of the rotation. Yovani Gallardo would be number 1, Randy Wolf would be number 4 & 5 would go to Chris Narveson, Dave Bush or MannyParra.

On the field: Up next for the Brew, starting this Tuesday a 3 game home series VS the LA Dodgers. Dave Bush 6-10 4.63 ERA will face Ted Lilly 4-0 1.29 ERA since being acquired by the Dodgers at the trade deadline.

Have a great week

I would like to start off by introducing myself. My name is Mathieu Laurin, I just recently join PSB, hence, this being my first ever post. I will be conducting blogs on the Milwaukee Brewers & F1 Racing. Hope you enjoy as much as I will be creating.

Milwaukee Brewers – Can They Do It, Or Is it Just a Dream?

The Brewers have been competitive in recent seasons, even making the playoffs in 2008 for the first time in 25 years. That visit was short-lived as they lost in the opening round to the Phillies, but this young team gained experience where it was sorely needed. Milwaukee also has one of the best crowds in Major League baseball. Most people view tailgating as a football-only tradition. Milwaukee turns tailgating into an event. There are literally thousands of grills going with every kind of meat imaginable, making you ready for the game before you even set foot in the stadium.

The product on the field has taken a step back from its playoff form of 2008. The Brewers first half of the 2010 season has been up & down. Desperately seeking consistency. They struggled to a 40-49 record. Even with two of the best hitters in the National League sitting in the middle of their lineup. Corey Hart & Ryan Braun. Without to mention Home Run hitting machine Prince Fielder. Fielder is an even better home run hitter than Braun, hitting 46 long balls in 2009 with 141 RBI’s. He also had a solid batting average of .299. Basically, if Milwaukee can get runners on base in front of these two, Braun and Fielder will bring them in. So far in 2010, the Brewers have 4 guys in the top 50 in the major league in RBI category, which explains their top 3 in team RBI (National League) & top 6 overall in MLB.

The problem is pitching, with a team ERA of 4.84 (4th worse in the Major Leagues) no run support or lead is safe. However, they are coming into the 2nd half wining 3 in a row & find themselves 9.5 games back of Cincinnati for top place in the NL Central & 9.5 game back of the Wild Card spot. Yovani Gallardo (8-4 2.58 ERA) who leads the Brewers in wins, ERA & almost every other pitching category can’t lead this team to the playoffs alone. No other pitcher on the team can come close to the staff ace. Milwaukee needs to develop more pitchers like that, by either trading away some of their useful talent at offence, as this team will not make it to the playoffs this year. The only award they will get in 2010 is top party atmosphere in the parking lot before a game.

Next week, I will suggest multiple players that could be traded to help bring in pitching talent. Possible trade offers and trade discussion as trade deadline looms upon us. I will also feature a prospect from the organisation in every article starting all next week.

Please bring your comments. Kind regards,
