This year’s draft was nothing like last year’s because it was all about trading everything they could to get RG3 and they did.   Their first pick did not come until the second round at #51 and they chose CB David Amerson from North Caroline State.  Here are the rest of the picks for the Redskins.

The most exciting for Redskins fans was not the draft at all, but what happened during the draft party when RG3 did some jumping around for the fans.  Click here to check it out.

The Washington Redskins have posted their regular season schedule.  No one can really speculate as to much until we know who will start at QB.  Their home opener is actually in the first week AND it’s a Monday Night Football game AND it’s against the Eagles.  No pressure.

I’ve been reading Tweets and Facebook status updates from RG3, quotes from his agent, seen him at the NFL Rookie of the Year Awards and all over the place, but nothing “official” about his status and progress.   Mike Shanahan spokie at the NFL Owners meeting yesterday and had said that RG3 is “ahead of schedule.”

“He’s a worker,” Shanahan said. “He’s working out six, seven, eight hours a day.  He’s doing everything he possibly can to get himself ready.”

How about letting his knees HEAL?  Obviously the biggest lesson that RG3 needs to learn is the QB slide, throwing the ball away and not taking hits.  None of these sound like RG3 but without knees, he can’t run a single yard, let alone throw one.

The Redskins are over their salary cap by $18 million sanction forced by the NFL because of that whole contracts mess in 2010.   The biggest player affected is CB DeAngelo Hall who was cut last night, on the eve of Free Agency start.  It has been made very clear, even with ankle surgery, that LB London Fletcher will not be affected.  “He would not be a guy that I would talk to about taking a pay cut,” Shanahan said.

With what little they have to work with, they have re-signed the following:  LG Kory Lichtensteiger, LB Rob Jackson, TE Logan Paulsen, LS Nick Sundberg, NT Chris Baker and FB Darrel Young.  The Redskins have also acquired OT Tony Pashos formerly of the Cleveland Browns, although out last year with a foot injury.

We shall see what happens to some Redskins players in free agency but not having the $$ to get players will have a major impact who may leave.

Rookie sensation Alfred Morris is up for the FedEx Ground Player of the YEAR.  He’s up against Adrian Peterson and Marshawn Lynch.  Being in the rankings of those 2 alone is quite the accomplishment, especially being a rookie! RG3 didn’t make the cut, which I don’t get.  Brady, Rodgers and Manning (Peyton) are up for the FedEx Air Player of the year, even though RG3 won it twice, Brady 3, Rodgers twice and Manning only once, which only came in week 17.  RUDE!

The Washington Redskins, hopefully going to get better next year, Robert Griffin III has been named the Pro Football Weekly / Pro Football Writers of America’s 2012 NFL Rookie of the Year.  Just imagine what he could have done without any of the injuries from last year.  We Redskins fans have a long wait but need to be patient with our franchise QB’s recovery.  We need him back 100%, not 50.

Congratulations Robert!  What an amazing accomplishment!

The Washington Redskins and RG3′s surgeon seem positive about RG3′s surgery and the potential for his recovery, yet it’s not what it seems, at least according to ProFootballTalk.  Supposedly BOTH knees were worked on.   I am such a sad Redskin fan right now.  :(

RG3 had the surgery on both his ACL and LCL.  Here’s what his surgeon Dr. Andrews had to say:

“Robert Griffin III had successful knee surgery early this morning. He had a direct repair of his LCL and a re-do of his previous ACL reconstruction. We expect a full recovery and it is everybody’s hope and belief that due to Robert’s high motivation, he will be ready for the 2013 season.

The goal of his treatment is to give him the best opportunity for a long professional career.”

Get well and take your time!  I’d rather a 100% RG3 in 2014 if you can rest for 2013.

This is horrible news Skins fans.  RG3, accompanied by Redskins owner Daniel Synder, after a consultation in Florida will require surgery on his LCL.  At that time, they will also see if his ACL requires surgery.  Dr. James Andrews will perform the surgery later this week.  HC Mike Shanahan, after watching the films, says that the injury happened after a sack just before the next play where he planted his knee and went down.

This is disheartening and upsetting to all Redskins and NFL fans around the league.   He’s been such a tremendous beacon to this team and all us fans.  I can’t even imagine a season without him, but if that’s what it takes, bring on KC1 for 2013 and RG3 in 2014.

The first MRI’s on RG3′s right knee they are calling “inconclusive” because they do see partial tears of both the ACL and LCL but are calling it so because they don’t know if it’s new or his previous ACL injury in 2009 when he had surgery.  He will be travelling down to Florida today to consult with Dr. James Andrews, who has been involved with Griffin’s knee injuries.  I’m assuming exploratory surgery will be done to see just how bad it is, but I need to prepare myself and all you Redskins fans out there that this will be a long and hard journey  back to the RG3 we saw in November.  Surgery makes the most sense since he’s so young so 2013 season may have to be sacrificed.

However, nothing is for sure yet, so let’s see what happens.  It’s clear the first knee injury was not a “sprain” as was reported.  If Cousins continued the season yes the Skins might be a 2nd place team, but we would have RG3 starting training camp with a healthier non-torn knee.  It’s also assumed RG3 will not play in the Pro Bowl but should attend as he was voted and deserves to be there.
