Gerardo Parra and Chris Young belted solo home runs off Rockies’ relief ace Huston Street in the ninth inning forcing extra frames. Justin Upton drove in the winning run with a single down the right field line in the 11th to complete the comeback victory.

Ian Kennedy pitched 6IP/ 6H/ 2ER/ 3BB/ 5K earned a no-decision in the process. The Diamondbacks’ bullpen hurled 5 spectacular innings in relief allowing only two base runners. David Hernandez (2-0) earned the win pitching a scoreless 11th inning.

The Diamondbacks completed their 10-game (6-4) home stand and begin a three-game weekend series tonight against the San Diego Padres at Petco Park.

Barry Enright (1-3, 6.49 ERA) appears to be hitting better than pitching these days. Unfortunately, the right-hander is paid to get batters out. Enright smacked a solo home run off Jhoulys Chacin during the middle game of the series against Colorado. Following the 6-4 loss, Enright was optioned to Triple-A Reno to reinstate RHP Aaron Heilman from the DL.

Justin Upton led off the 8th inning on Tuesday night and walloped an eventual game-winning home run off RHP Felipe Paulino (0-1) to break a 3-3 tie. The right-fielder clubbed his sixth home run of the season on a 3-0 pitch, giving the Diamondbacks a series opening 4-3 win.

Henry Blanco opened the scoring for the Diamondbacks with a solo blast in the 3rd inning. The backup catcher recorded his first hit of the season with the home run. Xavier Nady added a two-run single later in the inning to increase the lead to 3-1.

Carlos Gonzalez hit a titanic 453-foot home run to lead off the 4th inning for the Rockies.

Joe Saunders pitched 6IP/ 6H/ 3ER/ 3BB/ 2K in the no-decision. David Hernadez (1-0) earned the win in relief hurling a scoreless 8th inning. J.J. Putz pitched the ninth inning and earned his 7th save of the season.

Putz induced a game-ending double play in the ninth inning to save Sunday’s 4-3 victory against the Chicago Cubs and salvage a four-game series split.

Daniel Hudson (2-4) pitched effectively 7IP/ 8H/ 3ER/ 1BB/ 5K to earn the win.

Ryan Roberts walloped his sixth home run of the season in the second inning. The super utility player continues to make his presence known in the starting lineup.

Arizona plated three runs in the fourth inning on a balk, sacrifice bunt, and wild pitch. This was not the most conventional of rallies but runs are runs.

What a difference a day makes? Diamondbacks closer J.J. Putz (0-1) allowed consecutive hits by Darwin Barney and Starlin Castro with two outs in the ninth inning to give the Chicago Cubs a 5-3 win.

Alfonso Soriano enjoys hitting against the Diamondbacks particularly at Chase Field. The Cubs’ outfielder smacked his 10th home run of the season on Saturday and third ‘big fly’ in two games in the desert.

Ian Kennedy pitched another solid ball game following his masterful 3-hit shutout on Monday night. The right-hander fired 7 2/3IP/ 6H/ 3ER/ 1BB/ 6K in the no-decision.

Home runs were the story in the second game of the series. Justin Upton hit another monstrous (455 feet) blast to give the Diamondbacks a 2-0 lead in the first inning. The right fielder continues to display prodigious power this season.

Armando Galarraga (3-2) pitched 7IP/ 3ER/ 1BB/ 2K. The right-hander allowed three solo home runs including two by Alfonso Soriano. Galarraga has surrendered 11 home runs in only 28 innings pitched this season.

Carlos Zambrano (3-1) limited the Diamondbacks offense to only two runs on four hits in his six innings of work to earn the victory.

The Diamondbacks offense was ready to swing the bat during the first game of the four-game weekend series against the Chicago Cubs.

Double. Walk. Hit-by-Pitch. Grand Slam by Stephen Drew opened the scoring in the first inning off Ryan Dempster (1-3) who was awful pitching only 1/3IP/ 4H/ 7ER/ 4BB in his abbreviated 40-pitch outing.

After Miguel Montero grounded out, three consecutive batters reached on walks. Barry Enright and Chris Young followed with singles to extend the lead to 7-0. The game was essentially before over before it started.

Barry Enright (1-2) cruised to his first win of the season after his club staked him to big lead. The right-hander struggled in his previous four starts but the offensive explosion changed the tone of the game.

Montero added a run scoring double in the second inning and a two-run home run in the third inning to pad the lead.

The Diamondbacks conclude their 10-game home stand against the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday night. LHP Joe Saunders is scheduled to make the start.

Joe Saunders (0-3) pitched 5 2/3 innings allowing 10H/ 6ER/ 1BB/ 8K. The left-hander allowed the first three Phillies batters to reach base safely before Ben Francisco hit a ground-rule double to make the score 3-0. Saunders continues to struggle pitching in the desert.

Cole Hamels (3-1) pitched seven solid innings limiting the Diamondbacks’ offense to three runs on four hits to salvage the final game of the series.

Chris Young hit two home runs in the game to provide most of the offense. Melvin Mora added an RBI single.

The Diamondbacks open a four-game series tonight against the Chicago Cubs at Chase Field. Barry Enright is scheduled to make his fifth start of the season.

Final Score: Phillies win 8-4

Daniel Hudson (1-4) pitched six effective innings allowing 6IP/ 10H/ 3ER/ 0BB/ 6K en route to his first win of the season. The right-hander smacked a two-run double off Roy Oswalt in the second inning to put the Diamondbacks ahead for the remainder of the game.

Ryan Roberts continued his strong start with his fifth home run of the season. The super utility player has performed exceptionally well in the starting lineup.

Two games, two aces defeated. Roy Oswalt (3-1) was not sharp in his three innings allowing 6H/ 5ER/ 1BB/ 0K. The right-hander left the team for personal reasons following his sub par performance.

Final Score: Diamondbacks win 7-5

Ian Kennedy (3-1) pitched the game of his life on Monday night against the Philadelphia Phillies. The right-hander fired a three-hit shut out the day after welcoming his first child into world. Kennedy located all of his pitches and overwhelmed the Phillies batters in a classic pitcher’s duel.

9IP/ 3H/ 0R/ 0BB/ 10K

This was the best performance by a Diamondbacks’ starting pitcher since Edwin Jackson no-hit the Tampa Bay Rays last season.

Chris Young and Gerardo Parra supplied the offense each hitting home runs off the $120 million dollar man, Cliff Lee.

Final Score: Diamondbacks win 3-0

Ryan Roberts throwing error opened the floodgates for a huge third inning. The scoring was capped off by former Prescott High School star, Jason Pridie hitting his first career home run. David Wright connected on his second home run of the game off Jason Collmenter in the 4th inning extending the lead to 7-0.

Stephen Drew was the offensive star of the game for the Dbacks continuing his torrid start with three hits.

Final Score: Mets win 8-4

Barry Enright (0-2) continues to struggle. The right-hander pitched 5 2/3 IP allowing 12H/ 5ER/ 1BB/ 2K. Enright has allowed 4 runs or more in all four starts this season.

Stephen Drew opened the scoring in the first inning lining a triple down the right field line plating Justin Upton. Miguel Montero connected on a 437-foot home run to right field to tie the game in the sixth.

The turning point of the game occurred in the first inning. Chris Young led off the game with a triple and Kelly Johnson drew a walk. However, the Diamondbacks were unable to capitalize on the excellent scoring opportunity.

Consecutive doubles in the third inning by Kelly Johnson and Justin Upton accounted for the Diamondbacks only run of the game.

Esmerling Vasquez (0-1) suffered the loss in relief allowing a home run to Ike Davis in the 7th inning . The Mets scored two unearned runs in the 8th inning off Juan Gutierrez to extend the lead.

Armando Galarraga (3-0) pitched effectively in 6IP/ 4H/ 3ER/ 2BB/ 6K to open the six game road-trip. The right-hander has won all three of his starts this season for Arizona.

His second-inning grand slam and fourth home run in the last three games helped propel the St. Louis Cardinals to a 15-5 series finale win against Arizona. Ian Kennedy (1-1) lasted just 3 innings and surrendered 7H/ 9ER/ 2BB/ 1K. It was not pretty.

Aaron Heilman did not provide any comfort in his relief appearance. The right-hander allowed 7H/ 6ER over 1 2/3 innings.

The Diamondbacks trailed 12-0 in the fourth inning and never really had a chance to get back in the game. Russell Branyan hit a two-run home run to close the gap but the Cardinals added three more runs in the fifth.

Jake Westbrook (1-1) was good enough to earn his first win of the season pitching 5 1/3 innings allowing 9H/ 5R/ 2ER/ 2BB/ 3K.

The World Champion San Francisco Giants come to town Friday night to begin a three-game weekend series. Daniel Hudson is scheduled to make the start against Matt Cain.

Final Score: Cardinals win 15-5

In the middle game of the series, Diamondbacks hitters torched St. Louis ace Chris Carpenter for 8H/ 8ER in four innings. The 2005 NL Cy Young winner allowed a majestic, 478-foot home run to Justin Upton in the second inning.

Armando Galarraga (2-0) struggled in his five innings of work. The right-hander allowed 9H/ 5ER/ 2BB/ 3K, including three solo home runs to the Cardinals hitters.

Chris Young and Juan Miranda added long home runs in helping spark the offensive attack.

Manager Kirk Gibson was ejected for the first time in his career for arguing called strikes against Miguel Montero in the third inning by umpire Bob Davidson.

In the sixth inning, the Cardinals pulled to within 9-7. RHP Kam Mickolio struck out Albert Pujols and Matt Holiday stranding the potential tying runs on base. It was the turning point in the game.

The Diamondbacks scored at least one run in the first six innings. Over the final three innings, David Hernandez and J.J. Putz were able to keep the Cardinals from scoring.

Final Score: Diamondbacks win 13-8

Barry Enright (0-1) pitched six innings allowing 9H/ 4ER/ 1BB/ 4K including the first home run of the year to Lance Berkman.

The Diamondbacks failed to capitalize on several run scoring opportunities off RHP Kyle McClellan. Arizona tallied 11 base runners off the converted relief pitcher but just one run.

Justin Upton and Melvin Mora led the team with two hits each. The rest of the offense did little damage against four Cardinals relievers.

Juan Gutierrez struggled in his second consecutive relief appearance allowing Berkman’s second home run of the game and a solo shot to Jon Jay.

Final Score: Cardinals win 8-2

Ian Kennedy (1-0) pitched eight superb innings limiting the Reds dynamic offense to 6H/ 1R/ 1B/ 9K. The right-hander threw 104 pitches, 73 strikes in his second start of the season.

Three home runs by Justin Upton, Kelly Johnson, and Chris Young were more than enough support. The Diamondbacks offense sparkled during the last three innings including 10 unanswered runs sending the 48,027 fans home happy.

Miguel Montero continued his torrid hitting going 3-3 with 2 runs scored. The Diamondbacks catcher has hit safely in every game to start the season.

Sloppy defense and poor offensive execution was the story in Saturday night’s 6-1 loss to Bronson Arroyo and the Reds.

Daniel Hudson (0-2) suffered the defeat pitching 7IP/ 3H/ 2ER/ 3BB/ 8K. The right-hander allowed only two base runners after allowing two first inning runs.

The Diamondbacks offense failed to convert several scoring chances in the early innings. Melvin Mora drove in the only run of the game for Arizona with a two-out single in the sixth inning.

A throwing error by Juan Gutierrez in the 9th inning contributed to the four-run uprising and sealed the victory for Cincinnati. The reliever mishandled a groundball hit by Scott Rolen and rushed his throw to first base.

Chris Young hit a three-run home run off Nick Masset in the 8th inning to lead the Diamondbacks (4-4) to a 10-8 victory in the series finale.

Joe Saunders struggled in his second start of the season. The left-hander pitched 3 IP/ 6H/ 4ER/ 5BB/ 1K. Former ASU pitcher Mike Leake struggled during his 4 2/3IP/ 9H/ 6ER/ 2BB/ 4K.

Stephen Drew led the Diamondbacks’ offense with four hits. Willie Bloomquist continued his blazing start going 3-5 and added his NL-leading sixth stolen base.

Aaron Heilman (1-0) pitched three innings in relief to earn the victory. J.J. Putz earned his third save of the season. The closer stranded the tying runs on base in the ninth inning.

The Diamondbacks host Albert Pujols and the St. Louis Cardinals on Monday night to begin a three- game series.

The Diamondbacks (2-3) salvaged the finale of the three-game series on Wednesday afternoon against the Chicago Cubs with a 6-4 win at Wrigley Field.

The offense showed signs of life by collecting 12 hits including a double and triple by outfielder, Chris Young. Miguel Montero hit his second home run of the season in the eighth inning off LHP John Grabow. The catcher is hitting a robust .474 to begin the campaign.

Willie Bloomquist continued his torrid pace in the series including a lead off home run in Monday’s game against RHP Randy Wells accounting for the Diamondbacks only scoring. The infielder has filled in admirably (.348 average) for the injured Stephen Drew.

Justin Upton continued his early season struggles going 1-12 in the series and his batting average stands at .182 over his first 22 at-bats. The 23 year-old right-fielder will try and improve his fortune during the upcoming nine-game home stand.

Meanwhile, the starting pitching has been a surprising strength for the ball club during the first five games of the 2011 season.

Joe Saunders (0-1) pitched 6 effective innings on Monday producing the pitching line of 6IP/ 5H/ 2ER/ 3BB/ 3K. Unfortunately, the left-hander needed to hurl a shutout on this day to capture a victory. Saunders appears ready to rebound from a disappointing 2010 season after leading MLB with 17 losses.

Barry Enright threw 100 pitches over 6 innings during Tuesday’s contest. The right-hander struggled at times with his command allowing 7H/ 4ER/ 3BB. However, he was effective enough to keep the Diamondbacks in the game long enough to stage a 3-run, 7th inning rally to tie the game 4-4.

Armando Galarraga (1-0) made his first career NL start and Diamondbacks debut on Wednesday afternoon. The right-hander hurled 7+ IP/ 5H/ 4ER/ 2BB/ 5K and did not allow hit until Marlon Byrd singled to lead off the fourth inning. His pitching line does not represent the quality of his outing.

Team Notes:

INF Willie Bloomquist stole his fifth base of the season on Wednesday. The ASU alumnus swiped only 8 bases last season splitting time with Kansas City and Cincinnati.

Arizona ended its eight-game losing skid versus the Cubs.

The Diamondbacks play their home opener Friday night against the 2010 NL Central Champion Cincinnati Reds at Chase Field. Ian Kennedy is scheduled to make his second start of the season for Arizona.

Gerardo Parro scored the winning run after Colorado reliever Matt Lindstrom unleashed a wild pitch with one-out in the 11th inning.

Ian Kennedy made his first career opening day start hurling six quality innings by allowing 6H/ 3ER/ 3BB/ 3K.

The Diamondbacks scored six runs (6 IP) off Rockies ace Ubaldo Jimenez including home runs by Justin Upton and Miguel Montero.

A bizarre play in the seventh inning nearly cost the Diamondbacks the victory. RHP Juan Gutierrez struck out Ty Wigginton on a ball in the dirt for the third out to seemingly preserve a 6-4 lead. However, catcher Miguel Montero skipped the throw to first base, allowing Carlos Gonzalez to score. It appeared that Montero’s cleat stuck in the grass leading to the poor throw. The next batter, Jose Lopez legged out an infield single scoring Todd Helton to tie the game 6-6.

Sam Demel (1-0) earned the win in relief. J.J. Putz recorded his first save after retiring the side in order in the 11th inning.

Jorge De La Rosa (1-0) limited the Diamondbacks offense to three hits over 5 1/3 shut out innings before leaving Saturday night’s game due to blister problems.

Daniel Hudson (0-1) threw 101 pitches over six innings limiting the Rockies offensive attack to 6H/ 3ER/ 2BB/ 5K.

Dexter Fowler doubled in Chris Iannetta for the first run of the game in the third inning. Iannetta sparked a two-run rally in the 4th inning with an RBI double followed by De La Rosa’s run-scoring single to complete the Rockies’ scoring.

Hudson finished the 2010 season in spectacular fashion posting a 7-1 record and 1.79 ERA during August and September. The right-hander is scheduled to start the home opener at Chase Field on Friday night.

Ryan Roberts singled in the ninth inning scoring Justin Upton for the only Diamondbacks run of the game. Roberts continues his torrid hitting from Spring Training where he led MLB with a .519 batting average in Cactus League action.

The final game of the series was postponed due to snow. Joe Saunders was scheduled to make the start for the Diamondbacks. A make up date has not been announced. Arizona travels to Wrigley Field to begin a three-game series against the Cubs on Monday afternoon.
