Street joins a plethora of Padres pitchers on the DL including upcoming ace Corey Luebke who was having an outstanding start to his young season on a team with a negative run differential. A lot of experts claim that the Padres have one of the best, if not the best farm system in all of baseball, with five pitchers now on the DL what better time then now to see if that prediction is correct.

Ernesto Frieri (RHP) reliever for the Padres will head about two hours north because as of today he is an Angel. Frieri was used more as a middle/long reliever out of the pen for the Padres even though he has set-up/closer ability. So far this season Frieri sits with a 2.31 ERA to go a long with a 1.11 WHIP. His stat that stands out to me is his 18:4 K:BB ratio in 11.2 innings. Frieri will be a nice addition to the Angels iffy bullpen this year.

The Padres receive two minor-leaguers, middle infielder Alexi Amarista and pitcher Donn Roach. Amarista had 52 at bats last year for the Angels so he has some major league experience, but in those 52 AB, Amarista hit only .154, is he the right guy? Right now the Padres have three players pretty much playing two positions, Orlando Hudson plays 2nd with Jason Bartlett at SS and then Andy Parrino platoons. Hudson is hitting .210 with 1 HR, Bartlett is hitting .164 and also leads the Padres with 5 errors, and Parrino is hitting .209 with 1HR. That is just straight up abysmal.

Good news for Amarista is that he can’t really do much worse then what the middle infield of the Padres are doing now, but as of now Amarista will report to Tucson. As for the pitcher Roach he will head to Single-A Lake Elsinore.
