This struck me as odd since both of these teams, for lack of a better word, stink. Neither have any superstars to speak of unless you want to lump in King Felix in Seattle. Then Phil Humber showed up and fired a perfect game.

The 29 year old journey man became the 21st pitcher in MLB history to throw a perfect game as he retired all 27 Mariners he faced in a 4-0 White Sox win. He struck out the Mariners’ Brenden Ryan on a 3-2 pitch, his 9th K of the day, for the final out. This was the first complete game for Humber in his 30th career start, his previous longest outing was 7 2/3 innings.

This is the 3rd perfect game in White Sox history and the first since Mark Buehrle did it to the Tampa Bay Rays on July 23rd, 2009. Humber’s next scheduled start will be on Thursday against the Red Sox where he will try to become the only the 2nd pitcher to throw back to back No-no’s. The only other man to accomplish the feat was Johnny Vander Meer in 1938.

The two hottest teams in the American League start a 4 game weekend series in Motown this weekend. Josh Hamilton and the two time defending AL champs Texas Rangers (10-2) get their first look of the season at Prince Fielder and his Detroit Tigers (9-3). The Motor City Kitties are off to their best start since they started 11-1 in 1984, and we all know what happened in 1984, when they led the league wire to wire and won their last World Championship. The rangers are arguably the most complete team in the show as they are second in the league in ERA (2.33) and team batting average (.293). This should be a fantastic series as I will get to get my first look at the Japan’s sexiest man Yu Darvish, well see if he can actually pitch, as this is the best lineup he has ever encountered. I predicted that the Latin Babe Ruth, this is what I will refer to Miguel Cabrera as until the end of time, will continue his hot hitting at home and the Tiger’s will take 3 out of 4 this weekend.
