Let me start out by apologizing for my lack of blogs I was out of the country and unable to get a proper internet connection in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. That being said I was able to hear and see a couple highlights of last weeks games, but more importantly was able to see in its entirety the game clincher against the Titans. With a 34-14 victory over Tennessee and a San Diego loss to the Bungles, the Kansas City Chiefs are AFC West Champions for the first time since 2003.

Matt Cassel just seem to be etting better and better with every week, he went 24/34 for 314 yards with three scores. However, he had a little help with the Chiefs newsest Pro Bowler Dwayne Bowe absolutely creating havoc int he defensive backfield. His catch and run for a score was that of a Hall of Famer. Not only was he able to catch the pass through traffic but he was able to break away from the pack with ease.

The two headed running attack of Jamaal Charles and Thomas Jones has been a pillar of consistency this entire season and they were no different int he most important game of the season. they combined for 128 yards .

The defense was also able to step up in the biggest game of the season. They were able to hold in check one of the most elite tailbacks in the game to 58 yards on the ground.

The Chiefs are now 7-0 at the New Arrowhead, which is very beneficial when they are now awarded at least one home game. For Chief fans that is the greatest Christmas present they could ask for. The Chiefs will be looking onto the Oakland Raiders where they have a chance to go undefeated at home. Even thought the Chiefs are pretty steady in the playoff picture they will not let their foot off the gas as they will want to carry their momentum through and into the playoffs.

Well if you a re a Chiefs fan then this was a game you will soon want to forget as the Sand Diego Chargers absolutely stifled the Chiefs on offense and rolled on offense. The Chargers, with the win, were able to gain ground in the AFC West race, now just one game behind Kansas City with three left to play. The Raiders also won today keeping their hopes alive as well.

Brodie Croyle had not started for the Chiefs since 2009, but it looked like it had been since 1999. Croyle never look comfortable, his pocket presence was terrible and he was unable to get the Chiefs going. Croyle went 7/17 for a mere 40 yards. Now we all knew that he was not going to be amazing, but come on. That was a pathetic effort and it seemed as if he didn’t even take a snap in practice during the week.

Jamaal Charles signed a new 5 year 32 million dollar contract in the last 48 hours, but he did not look like a man inspired by cash as he was only able to muster 40 yards on the ground. He never was able to get past the second level defense, a credit to San Diego’s D line. But, much was expected of him this week due to Matt Cassel being held out. The Chiefs offense achieved only 5 first downs the whole game. I do not care who you are, but if you only have five first downs the whole game, you will never ever win…ever.

Phillip Rivers went off after being suffocated by a Raider defense a week earlier. Rivers tossed for 226 yards and two scores, both going to Malcolm Floyd. Rivers was highly efficient completing 66% of his passes while Ryan Mathews and Mike Tolbert gave a steady performance on the ground, 66 and 65 yards respectively and each had a score.

The Chiefs were out gained in yardage 426 to 67. That is a pathetic statistic. For the players, having to watch this film is worse than route canal. I could barely watch all of it live, let alone on replays. The Chargers looked like they had a 5 game lead in the division going into this game instead of 2 down. This is the part of the season that will tell if the Chiefs have what it takes to make some noise in the playoffs. They are a very young team, but if they can get someleadership, they can still win this division.

The playoffs are in their own hands, they control their destiny. They simply must win out, easier said than done, but that is the case. The Chiefs remaining schedule is at St. Louis, home to Tennessee, and home to Oakland. The Chiefs must look now to the Rams and take care of business one game at a time. The Chiefs should have no problem getting motivated for this Sunday after watching today’s film. Check back later in the week for a Chief-Ram preview.

The Kansas City Chiefs have the chance today to be able to all but seal up the AFC West division. The Oakland Raiders helped the Chiefs out last week by showing them exactly how to beat the Chargers in December with their 28-13 victory last week. However it will not be an exactly even fight I guess you can say if your a Chiefs fan.

Matt Cassel has been ruled out today after he had an appendectomy earlier in the week. He was unsure if he would play, but everyone knew their was no way he was going to play. He just had surgery on his abdomen no more than four days ago. Mean while The Chiefs brass and Jamaal Charles inked a five year 32 million dollar deal yesterday.

Now as the checks are being signed we take a look at todays game. Jamaal Charles and Thomas Jones are going to get a heavy dose of snaps, but if they want to win they are going to have to be as effective as week 1, if not more so. With No Matt Cassel, that means Brodie Croyle will make his first start for the Chiefs since the 2009 season.

Do not expect Croyle to be getting deep pass play calls, their will be a lot of plays that we saw earlier in the year with the Chiefs. The little dink and dunk passes, high percentage plays to get 3-4 yards and allow the running game to get going and sustain drives. I am not expecting Dwayne Bowe to have a huge game due to the quarterback change, but you better believe Croyle will be looking to him t be his safety blanket.

The Chargers are coming off a bad loss to the Raiders, meaning, they are going to come out firing today. Vincent Jackson and Patrick are both back in the lineup today after suffering injuries, but Phillip Rivers will make sure to get them the ball.

The Chiefs secondary which did such a great job against Denver last week will need to continue to do the same. 75% of that success was due to the defensive line getting pressure on the quarterback and forcing the ball out early- and 50% of that was from Tamba Hali. If the Chiefs want to take a choke hold on the division, they are going to have to frustrate Rivers and keep the ball out of his hands.

Chiefs lock it up. 31-30.

Well the headlines of Sunday will have nothing to do with the game on the field, but instead the “customary handshake” that follows it. Three weeks ago The Chiefs never seemed to get on the bus when they came to face their AFC West rival Denver Broncos. Coach Todd Haley added fuel to the fire of the rivarly by refusing to shake hands with Broncos coach Josh McDaniels. Instead he pointed and said, “we will see you in a few weeks.” Be sure to expect the cameras to keep rolling well after the final whistle blows for a much anticipated meeting.

However, let us look onto the actual game since their initial meeting the teams have gone in very different directions. The Chiefs have dominated their opponents by a combined score of 73-37, since that Mile High collapse in Denver, while the Broncos were embarrassed on Monday Night Football in San Diego and outplayed by the young St. Louis Rams at home.

With all that being said, the Chiefs look to kill two birds with one stone by avenging their loss in Denver and continuing their lead in the AFC West. Matt Cassel has been the spark the Chiefs needed after that debacle in Denver, however it seems easy when your number one wide out in Dwayne Bowe is coming down with everything except a cold. He has exploded for 7 touchdowns in his last three games, putting his total to 14 scores on the year.

Combine Bowe with the number one rushing attack in the league and you make for a very potent offense. However the one thing that the Broncos have been able to well against the Chiefs in their first meet was stuff the run which allowed the Broncos defense to get off the field. Expect a different story this weekend as the Chiefs will look to dominate time of possession as well as sustain their offensive drives. The Broncos last week were terrible on defensive third down percentage and the Chiefs will need to do that if they want to control this game.

The Chiefs have stifled teams defensively on the ground, but don’t seem to have to worry about much as Denver’s rushing attack is ranked 30th in the league. In what looks to be another lopsided game, this time in favor of the home team, you cannot overlook the rivalry games of the AFC West.

Look for Matt Cassel to continue this hot streak and the ground game to continue their dominance. The Chiefs should be able to extend their division lead in front of a rocking red crowd in Kansas City, making matters worse for Head Coach McDaniels.

Hey Chiefs fans, your Kansas City Football team is rolling right now on all cylinders. Now is the time of year, after Thanksgiving weekend, where if you want to see your team play in late December and January, then they need to be getting hot… now. The Chiefs are heating up. After the Denver shellacking they recieved three weeks ago, they have one their past two convincingly. The Chiefs have done it with their defense and their all pro wide out- Dwayne Bowe.

Dwayne Bowe went off yesterday catching 13 balls for 170 yards and 3 scores. Bowe this year has taken his game to a new level, starting off slow in the first few weeks, however, his turning point was the Indy game where he dropped the go ahead score-Chiefs lose. Since then he has worked his way into Pro Bowl ballots across the league. Matt Cassel literally looked nowhere else yesterday, Thomas Jones had 3 catches, Jamaal Charles 2 and 3 other players with 1 catch. Cassel was very efficient with his go to receiver in the zone throwing 22 of 33 for 233 yards and 4 scores.

The offensive line was superb, giving Cassel nothing but time and clearing the way for Charles and the ground game to pick up 270 yards. Charles ran for 173 yards and a score.

Looking a the defensive side, they were stout. The leagues best run defense gave up only 20 yards on the ground, and three turnovers. Travis Daniels and Kendrick Lewis both picked off Matt Hasselbeck with linebacker Derrick Jonson racking up 5 tackles, a sack, and forced a fumble. The defense has been playing lights out as of late even though they still seem susceptible to the pass. Coach Romeo Crennel has changed the entire complexion of the Chief defense, making them one of the most feared to play in the league.

A fantastic effort put forth yesterday will hopefully allow the momentum to continue as the Chargers victory has kept them hot on the heals of the Chiefs. Check back later in the week for the preview of Chiefs and Broncos.

Sorry for the much delayed and much tardy blog, but the Holidays a re a crazy time for me. I am running in every directions, but that is my segue into what the Chiefs will be doing in 3 hours time. The Chiefs face Seattle today, where the Chiefs look to continue their domination from Arizona last week. The two pronged attack of Jamaal Charles and Tomas Jones should have a field day against the 13th ranked rush defense.

But it is truly the pass game that looks to have success as they face the 30th ranked passing defense. Matt Cassel has thrown 8 touchdowns this month, which is best in the league. Dwayne, the Touchdown machine, Bowe has caught a touchdown in sic consecutive games; I see that trend continuing today. As the season continues, Charlie Weis is allowing Cassel to stretch the field more and more.

Seattle has been a model of inconsistency this year, with their only bright spots showing up when they play at home. The CHiefs are going to have cool the storm in the first quarter and shove the ground game right down their throat. The Chief defense led by Derrick Johnson, Tamba Hali, Brandon Flowers, and The youngster Eric Berry are all primed for a big game. Look For Hasselback to be on his back for a good portion of the game.

One bright spot for the Seahawks is kick returner Leon Washington who always seems to help put his offense in a promising postilion, the CHiefs special teamers are going to have to limit Washington in order to completely control this game. The Chiefs know what happens when you let a kick return for a touchdown on the road…. Raiders.

The Chiefs will win this game, that at times will look sloppy. They will control the AFC West for yet another week. 27-13

Instead the Chiefs need to focus on this Sunday as they play host to the Arizona Cardinals. The Chiefs defense has lost all of its swagger and confidence since the 4th quarter game against Oakland and have not been able to regain it. The run game was non existent last week and special teams did nothing to put the team in competing positions. Those three aspects of the game are what propelled the Chiefs to early glory and success. Now that they are not their the once contenders seem to be fading into pretenders.

Now we all know the Chiefs opening season run was no fluke, they played hard and got the victories. Hopefully, Haley listened to me, and realized they need to go back to basics. The defense needs to get some early stops to regain their confidence which will allow the ground game to get going.

For Chiefs Nation, this game could not have come at a better time. The 3-6 Cardinals have been nothing short of a disappointment with Kurt Warner hanging up his pads. Arizona statistically ranks near the bottom of every major statistical category. Ranking 28th defensively on the ground, this poses a fantastic opportunity to get Jamaal Charles and Thomas Jones back on track. With their offense ranking 31st in yards per game, the defense should be able to get some stops as well as some turnovers.

Matt Cassel has played extremely well at home this year and needs to continue his home efficiency on Sunday. Cassel will be looking to his touchdown catching wide out Dwayne Bowe who has 9 scores already this year. Bowe has turned up the heat as of late and should be yet another multi touchdown game for him.

The Chiefs will come out will ferocity and focus on Sunday, but the biggest question mark will be: Will Haley shake Ken Whisenhunt’s hand after game.

Chiefs 34-17

After a loss like the one the Kansas City Chiefs had against the Denver Broncos, giving up 35 points midway through the second quarter only leads to one thing- back to basics. The Chiefs have now dropped two straight to division opponents and are now tied for the AFC West lead with the Oakland Raiders, however the Chiefs are 1-2 in the division.

Now before I go any further, I must vent my frustration and irritation toward head coach Todd Haley. At the end of the game Broncos Head Coach Josh McDaniels went out to mid field to shake hands with Haley, but Haley disrespectfully refused and simply pointed and said, “we will see you again.” Haley was upset because he felt the Broncos were pouring it on at the end. Many in the media feel this was payback to for the shellacking Denver received in the season finale last year where K.C. poured it on thick in Denver. Haley showed me what an immature Coach he is. This is not a friend first league, coaches and players are not paid to make friends and make sure everyone’s feeling are ok. The Chiefs and Haley poured it on at the end of the year last year and it was pay back. When you give up 35 points in the first quarter and a half you should be embarrassed with your team.Haley did apologize for his emotions getting the best of him, but regardless he looked like a little kid who just got a spanking from his parents. I do not care if Denver onside kicked the ball and returned it for a score in the fourth quarter. If your defense cannot stop them, then they should not be playing. A truly unprofessional moment for Haley and his staff.

Now that I got that out of my system. There is truly not much to talk about other then the defense getting shredded. The Bronco offense executed their game plan perfectly. Score early, force Matt Cassel to throw, and prevent the Chief run game from getting going. Kyle Orton had a monster game, taking the ball away from Thomas Jones who was a ghost and limiting Jamaal Charles’ touches. The Chiefs safeties got torched, with Kendrick Lewis and Jon McGraw out, letting everyone and their mother behind them for big play after big play.

Cassel threw for over 450 yards, but for Chiefs Nation if you see that then that means its a game the Chiefs most likely lost. Kansas City is known for their run game and if Cassel has to throw then that means the ground game is no good. But in that, Bowe had a good day numbers wise, but all in all was not close to enough. Football is a team effort and when one side is so drastically bad it makes the other facets of the game that much harder.

In the end Haley just got out coached, plain and simple. Haley will be telling his players back to basics, go back to what got them the 5 wins so far. For Chiefs fans and the players its a tough loss to swallow and will stick with them the whole week. They now have to turn their attention to Arizona at home this Sunday.

The Chiefs had their chances in Oakland, but were unable to climb out of the Black hole with a win. The CHiefs have long forgotten about last Sunday with thier focus and attention turned to the 2-6 Broncos.

The Broncos, who are coming off a four game losing streak and the bye week, are desperate these days trying to get a win. The Chiefs impressive rushing attack ranks 1st in the league and they get set to do battle with the second to worst rushing defense in Denver. Josh McDaniels went out and got beefy on the defensive line soley for the rush defense, but so far has yet to pan out. The Chiefs offensive line should be able to bully the porous line of Denver.

On the horizon, the 1-2 punch of Thomas Jones and Jamaal Charles would appear to be 100 yard games, or for that matter 200 yard games. I mean the last trip Charles made to Denver he decided to set a franchise record, rushing for 259 yards, embarrassing Broncos Nation and gave light to a dismal 2009 Chief campaign.

Matt Cassel will have a bigger challenge against the number 8 ranked pass defense, consisting of All-Pro Champ Bailey and Brian Dawkins. Cassel will continue to go to his main man Dwayne Bowe, but may not be able to break the game open as he has in the last few weeks. Tony Moeaki will be a favorable target as he goes against the Broncos banged up linebackers.

On the opposite side of the ball the Chiefs linebackers will be salivating come Sunday to the pathetic attempt Denver calls a running game. Denver is dead last in running the ball with no sign of any improvement.

The Chiefs defense will truly be tested by the lone bright star on Denver in Kyle Orton who is third in the league in passing. He somehow finds ways to carve up defensive backfields and should be a good test for rookie Eric Berry and Brandon Flowers. Flowers will be looking for redemption this week after missing a golden opportunity of sealing the game with an interception, but instead through his hands and..well you know the rest.

I feel it will be a very close game, with the Broncos rested and the Chiefs coming off a rough lost, this will be a true test of their season..how they respond. Check back in on Monday for post game review.

The Kansas City Chiefs head to Oakland, California where they get set to take on Raider Nation. A battle of the top two teams in the AFC West, who would have thought, will meet in a 1:15 slated game today. Now I do apologize for my extreme tardiness I have had some medical issues as of late, but now is better than anytime so lets take a look at todays game.

The Chiefs number 1 rushing attack will look to continue to rack up yardage on the ground. The Raiders are a stout defense who look to be without their top cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha. Dwayne Bowe looks to have a big day as he has been red hot catching touchdowns in his last three games.

The Raiders rushing attack is no slouch either, Darren McFadden is showing he is the runner everyone thought he could be coming out of the draft. The Chiefs defense should have their biggest test of the year against McFadden. It seems as if Jason Campbell will once against start for Oakland, but if he begins to slump do not be surprised if we see Bruce Gradkowski come in for a spark. The Raiders are looking to establish the ground game and allow Campbell to make the plays he needs to on third down. This is very similar to the game plan of the Chiefs, with one difference.

Coach Todd Haley is the difference in game plan, he is known now as a river boat gambler going for it on 4th down 11 times this year, onside kicking to begin the game at Indy. He is going to take risks whether we like it or not, he explains their is a reason to his madness, even though it is not apparent. Matt Ciassel will have a big day due to the gamblin man Haley, Cassel -Bowe hook up will be the difference in this game.

Derrick Johnson, Tamba Hali, and Brandon Flowers will all have to be key instruments in snuffing out the run, but I feel they will get the job done. It will be a low scoring game, but the Chiefs will come out on top and extend that AFC West lead. Chiefs 17-13…Bowe and Charles with the Touchdowns
