Free Money for Wily
Posted on 1 Apr 2009 by Ryan Moore.
Quite in contrast with the otherwise thrifty spirit of the moment, all of a sudden it's in fashion among baseball clubs to eat money. Detroit cut loose Gary Sheffield with the understanding that they'll still have to pay him $14 million. The Phillies topped that by dropping Geoff Jenkins and Adam Eaton, for a grand total of $17.15 million in free money for those two. The Nationals,...

DROP ON THE OIL: R.I.P 2008/2009 EDMONTON OILERS
Posted on 1 Apr 2009 by Scott Brown.
I know they aren’t mathematically eliminated, but after last nights dismal performance I’ve officially singled down the large lady with massive wind pipes. The 2008/2009 Oilers are done. A season that started with so much promise: - Cole was going to revitalize the first line - The kids were going to pick up where they left off - Horcoff was going to cont...

Crabb Sent Down, Jack Edwards Is A Disgrace
Posted on 30 Mar 2009 by Casey Shea.
I failed to mention in yesterday's post that the Thrashers made one other roster move recently. As stated previously, Dan Turple has been recalled to back up Johan Hedberg. He may want to wave to Joey Crabb on the way to Atlanta as the two will probably pass each other in their travels. The Thrashers have reassigned Crabb to Chicago of the AHL after his second stint with the parent club th...

Lehtonen Out, Turple Recalled
Posted on 30 Mar 2009 by Casey Shea.
Well, it looks like Kari Lehtonen is probably done for the season. The “upper body injury” he suffered against the Rangers on Thursday is apparently significant enough to call up Dan Turple from Chicago of the AHL. Turple has a 5-8 record with a 2.94 GAA and .897 save percentage. I've even got better numbers than that in NHL 09 as a goalie. As such….. It would be a safe ...

Not Enough, Gillispie out at Kentucky after 2 seasons
Posted on 27 Mar 2009 by Nich Hall.
Billy Clyde Gillispie (BCG) after just two seasons at the University of Kentucky will not be retained. His record after two seasons stood at just 40-27, including the school’s first opening round exit of the NCAA’s since 1987 and even worse an NIT appearance this season. This particular season was unacceptable to Kentucky, the Cats lost 14 games (tied 2nd worst in Cats history) incl...

Rangers Vs. Thrashers 3/26 LIVE!
Posted on 26 Mar 2009 by Casey Shea.
I'm just a glutton for punishment for doing these, but it's fun for all involved so I'll do as many of these as possible. The Thrashers welcome the New York Rangers into town tonight. The Rangers currently sit seventh in the Eastern Conference, just two points behind Pittsburgh and three behind Carolina. Against the Rangers this season, the Thrashers are 1-2. Let's hope they...

Thrashers Vs. Habs 3/24 LIVE!
Posted on 24 Mar 2009 by Casey Shea.
Commenting on games as they happen is some of the most fun I have as a fan. Everyone talks to friends and such during the games and yells at the television when bad calls are made, so that's what these type of posts from me are going to be. Just as a side note, if none of you checked out the Thrashers' homepage yesterday you missed a gem. You can tell when your team is either A) not g...

Wide World of Sports & Entertainment
Posted on 23 Mar 2009 by Kevin Gibson.
As the saying goes, there’s two sides to every story. As much as there is a love fest for Sean Avery in New York. Big Nik Antropov has been a key contributer to the Rangers offensive attack. Antropov has 4G, 4A in 8 games and his presence has seemed to have rejuvenated Chris Drury. Drury has assisted on three of Antropov’s goals and the Big Kazak has assisted on both of Drury’s goals...

Thrashers Rip Caps, Win 6th Straight
Posted on 23 Mar 2009 by Casey Shea.
The Following Is The First In A Series Of Game Recaps That Will Be Posted In The Coming Days Before I Get Fully Caught Up Who would have thought that the Atlanta Thrashers would be on a six-game win streak? Certainly not me. I just checked the papers and pigs aren’t flying, so this must be legit. Kari Lehtonen stood on his head tonight to stonewall the high-powered offense of the Capi...

Although this has been news that has been broken elsewhere, the readers of STB need to get caught up with what has been a very busy iff season for the Rams.
