Butler and Old Dominion to Battle in NCAA Tournament
Posted on 14 Mar 2011 by Patrick Greissing.
As the NCAA Selection Show unfolded on Sunday night, two of the most successful mid-major programs in the country had yet to be announced with one region remaining. Then the dreaded 8 verse 9 matchup, in the Southeast region, was announced. The Butler Bulldogs will take on the Old Dominion Monarchs. Both teams enter the NCAA tournament on nine game winning streaks. But both coaches, Butle...

UCLA Receives 7-Seed, Will Face Spartans in Tampa
Posted on 14 Mar 2011 by Josh Lehmer.
UCLA has received a 7-seed in the Southeast bracket. They will travel to Tampa to face the 10 seed Michigan State Spartans in the first round, and if they advance will take on 2-seed Florida. All things considered, this is a pretty generous assignment. The Bruins knew they were going to be between a 7 and a 10 seed, so getting a 7-seed was pretty much the best possible option. In addition...

Then comes the anticipation and excitement of the selection show. Who doesn't love it when they show the celebrations of the mid-majors and bubble teams? Finally, if you're still pining for more, y...

Hokies’ Future Out of Their Hands
Posted on 12 Mar 2011 by Logan Cecchine.
After a loss this afternoon to Duke in the ACC semi-finals, the Hokies are headed back to Blacksburg to await the selection committee's decision. The Hokies followed a win against Duke with 2 straight losses to BC and Clemson. The losses pushed the potential #9 seeded Hokies back to the bubble and into the projected “last 4 in” category. Tech looked impressive against Georgia ...

Cards Headed to the ‘Ship
Posted on 12 Mar 2011 by John Buffone.
Well they did it again. The never-say-die Cardinals overcame all odds and defeated the Notre Dame Fighting Irish 83-77 Friday night, advancing them to the Big East Championship game to take on the UConn Huskies tomorrow night. The Cardinals looked flat for the majority of the first half and it looked as though things were going to get out of hand for Rick Pitino’s bunch. Louisville tried turn...

The Illinois Fighting Illini once again found a way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. The Illini (19-13) relinquished a 12 point second half lead in a 60-55 loss to the Michigan Wolverines (20-12) in the Big Ten Tournament Quarterfinals. It was a one-sided pounding and Clemson was swinging the hammer.
Posted on 11 Mar 2011 by Christopher Ferrick-Manley.
Clemson was a bad match-up for the Eagles. That much was pretty clear. Their size and defensive prowess have shut down BC twice this season and left the Eagles in precarious shape heading into Selection Sunday. Another slow start may have doomed the Eagles chances of a NCAA berth as well. The Tigers started the game on a 17-3 run. BC did not even get onto the scoreboard until Josh Southern's fr...

Duke-Maryland preview
Posted on 11 Mar 2011 by Chris Girandola.
As Duke attempts to win its 10th ACC championship in the past 13 tournaments, Kyle Singler needs to use the game against Maryland as a refresher course to finding himself. No one on Maryland can guard Singler. He is too quick for Jordan Williams and he is too crafty for Dino Gregary or Cliff Tucker to manage. While Maryland was the last team to beat Duke in 2010 before the Blue Devils went on...

Bruins Duck out of Pac-10 Tournament Early
Posted on 11 Mar 2011 by Josh Lehmer.
Well, that was embarrassing. The UCLA Bruins, coming off a second place finish in the Pac-10 and looking to start a streak to head into the postseason, got bounced out of the first round of the Pac-10 tournament. By a bad team. By 17 points. The loss is somewhat reminiscent of UCLA’s loss in the first round of the conference tournament to Cal in 2007 – difference being, the 2007 loss bu...

Forward David Loubeau and B.J. Holmes scored 31 of the Aggies 46 first half points to give A&M a 13 point lead into halftime. Loubeau and Holmes led the Aggies in scoring with 20 points apiece. ...
