Astros trying to hang with the best
Posted on 9 Jun 2011 by Jon Lopez.
After a tough finish to the four game series with the Padres and a tough start against the Cards, the Astros finally get back on track. Bud Norris pitched a gem. Pitching 8 innings and only giving up 1 hit which happened to be a home run for Lance Berkman in the 7th inning. Two wins in a row Bud and another save for Melancon. Bud is looking like he's found his groove and boy do the Astros need ...

Now We’re Rollin

A rough series against the D'Backs had me wondering if the Astros would ever get something going this season, then came a series sweep against the Cubs in Chicago. The Astros offense hasn't looked this good in a long time. 22 runs scored in three games at Wrigley. The highlight of the series for me has to be Jordan Lyles making his Major League debut. Lyles threw first pitch strikes the majorit...

Another game Winner, Time to get Rolling
Posted on 26 May 2011 by Jon Lopez.
Pence's game winner was exciting, the loss Tuesday sucked and Towles's walk off was beautiful but the fact that they won a series at home by playing good, hard baseball is whats important. Tomorrow the Diamondbacks come to town for a three game set. A team with good pitching but a weak bullpen. Their offense has some pop but is stale at times. The Astros should be feeling good and ready to keep...

About those Rumors
Posted on 23 May 2011 by Jon Lopez.
The bottom of the ninth tonight actually got me out of my seat. A nice at bat from Bill Hall then Great patience from Angel Sanchez had runners on first and second with Bourn at the plate. After eating a few pitches which included two 94mph fastballs on the outside corner, Bourn ripped a ground ball past James Loney for a game tying 2run double. Barmes comes up to bat and gets a couple of close...

Astros Rumors
Posted on 23 May 2011 by Jon Lopez.
I've been reading rumors today as I do every day and seeing rumors that the Astros Might be looking to trade Pence, Bourn and or Myers has got me pissed off…….. again. They like doing that. So the Braves want Pence. You can't have him. Anyone and everyone will want Bourn. Too bad. Myers you can have for some good pitching prospects. The Astros have to be crazy to blow up the team li...

Astros still struggling
Posted on 23 May 2011 by Jon Lopez.
As much as I like and need Jose Bautista to hit home runs for my fantasy team I could wait till after he's done playing against my reality team. Luckily Pence hit a bomb to left field to help carry the Astros to the victory last night, plus Pences' home run helped my fantasy team also. I would love to get some starting pitching for this team or kill, whatever I have to do. The Astros play such ...

New Owners, New Direction?

Jim Crane is one of nine people who bought the Astros for 680million dollars, hopefully they saved a little to get some pitching. Crane said it's been a dream of his to own a Major League Baseball team. It's been my dream since about 2005 to see the Astros go to the World Series. The Pirates are better than the Astros. Ben Affleck has an oscar so I guess anything is possible. It takes time to b...

1st Month could’ve been Worse

5 games back isn't bad, at least the Astros are basically in every game if the starters don't suck. Thus far, Angel Sanchez, Brett Wallace and Brett Myers are the real standouts. Wallace is hitting near .400 which for a guy in his first full year is pretty good. We know he can take Prince Fielder head on. His power isn't there yet but he does lead the team in doubles. Sanchez would win a gold g...

Not a Horrible start
Posted on 18 Apr 2011 by Jon Lopez.
It's not great either but considering the start the Astros had last season there is some good improvement. Offensive numbers aren't bad but consistent pitching is a problem. Myers is pitching like he wants to win the CY Young award, then you have Wandy who can't win. Lyon seems to be over the early rough start with 3 saves thus far. Most of the losses haven't been blow outs. The Astros have had...

One is better than None

We can all agree that Houston should be at least 3-3 instead of 1-5. Opportunities were there but pitching just hasn't shown up except for Brett Myers Who should have a record of 2-0. How do you score 4 runs in the first inning and lose the game 10-4? that's pretty bad. Not as bad as the Red Sox though. Asking a team like Houston to start the season with two of the best teams in the NL isn't th...

Rough Start
Posted on 4 Apr 2011 by Jon Lopez.
I didn't really think the Astros were gonna sweep the Phillies or anything but they should've won the first game at least. It was the perfect storm. Solid pitching from Brett and he actually got some run support. The game was in hand till the 9th. Watching Lyon give up the lead almost brought me to tears. I got really mad instead. Through out the series the Astros showed flashes of what they ca...

Astros Preview
Posted on 31 Mar 2011 by Jon Lopez.
Today is Opening Day and for the Astros, the season starts Tomorrow at noon in Philly. In the words of Bart Scott “can't wait”. The Astros have already been hit with a big loss with Jason Castro tearing his ACL. Quintero will see most of the action behind the plate this year. Youngster Brett Wallace is opening day starter at First. I'm not sure he's the best option. I'd like to see ...
