Extra, extra….Angels drop a pair in San Diego
Posted on 20 May 2012 by Bill Mahoney.
What a break for the Angels. They started interleague play with 3 games against the worst team, record wise at least, in the National League in the San Diego Padres. The Padres left the 3 games with the 2nd worst record in the NL. What helps is taking 2 of 3 from the awful Angels. I know, this Halo team, full of veterans, will get their act together. Unfortunately, it wasn't this weekend. When...

Hey, hey, hey, Albert finally makes his presence felt
Posted on 19 May 2012 by Bill Mahoney.
So Albert Pujols hits one home run through the Angels first 37 games. I show up, and he hits a home run in back to back nights. Forget Jim Eppard, hire me. Pujols seems to like it when I'm in attendance–haha. The Angels lit up Gavin Floyd on Wednesday. Floyd had been pitching lights out until he ran into a suddenly potent Halo offense. Even Vernon Wells decided to join the attack, hitti...

Angels slip Hatcher a Mickey in the form of a pink slip
Posted on 16 May 2012 by Bill Mahoney.
Mickey Hatcher is out as Angels coach. Jim Eppard is in. If there is any more questions as to who is running the team, I think it can be answered now. Jerry DiPoto thinks the Angels offense has been underachieving, so he pulled the plug on one of Mike Scioscia's closest buddies. It probably way past due for the long-time batting instructor, who as recently as 3 years ago saw his charges hit ....

After being shutout, Angels take to pounding Colon
Posted on 15 May 2012 by Bill Mahoney.
I was getting all frustrated last night after finding out the Angels were shut out for the 8th time this year, 5-0 by the A's. I stopped, thought about it, and reconsidered my frustration. The Halos are just 15-21 (now 16), and I know with the expectations placed on the team, that's not the best, but it's actually not awful. It's only been 37 games, that means there are 125 games left. Or, a lo...

Rangers grade out better than the Angels…Class Dismissed
Posted on 14 May 2012 by Bill Mahoney.
On May 13th, 2012, the Texas Rangers are better than the Angels in every category. They resoundingly proved that point this weekend. It can be argued that the Angels have a few individual players that are better than the Rangers, but as a team they are not even close. The Rangers put a nail into the Angels coffin in front of the national ESPN audience, pounding their best pitcher. Jered Weaver...

It’s a re-run, as Wilson goes twice
Posted on 13 May 2012 by Bill Mahoney.
There didn't seem to be any love lost when C.J. Wilson signed with the Angels after spending 7 years in a Rangers uniform. The Rangers have moved on, having Yu Darvish doesn't hurt. Wilson, and his replacement faced off on Monday, with Darvish the ultimate winner. Well, Darvish did come back out to the mound after a 1:56 rain delay, while Wilson watched Jerome Williams get lit up by a free swi...

Angels caught in a tough spot
Posted on 11 May 2012 by Bill Mahoney.
Where's Jeff Mathis when you need him? Of course, I am joking, but the Angels are going to need another catcher for awhile. Chris Ianetta recently underwent wrist surgery, so he'll be gone for the next couple months leaving the Halos with Bobby Wilson as their starting receiver. The Angels could have recalled Hank Conger, but he is on the DL in Salt Lake. Hopefully, the Angels will catch a brea...

No no hitter for Weaver, but Twins find a Diamond in the rough
Posted on 9 May 2012 by Bill Mahoney.
Come on, how many of you thought that Jered Weaver would no-hit the Twins…again? You had to be feeling a little more anxious after Weaver retired the first 6 batters. The balloon was deflated after Weaver walked Trevor Pfouffe to open the 3rd. He still had a no hitter going. At least until the next batter Eric Komatsu singled. Johnny Vander Meer can rest in peace for another couple weeks...

Pujols gets #1, while Wilson’s pitches like one
Posted on 6 May 2012 by Bill Mahoney.
28 games, 111 at bats before Albert Pujols finally hit his first home run as an Angel. Glad that drama is over. Do you think we'll have to read about how many abs it takes before he hits his 2nd? I did love his teammates reaction after he hit his 4th inning home run. Nobody, except Mike Trout, who scored ahead of him, was in the dugout when Pujols arrived. It was a funny scene. You can tell ho...

Angels either throw blanks or draw them
Posted on 5 May 2012 by Bill Mahoney.
At first I wanted to be mad at Ervin Santana. Right after giving up an RBI single to Yunel Escobar, Santana, on his very next pitch, gave up a home run to Jose Bautista. 3-0 Jays and game over. I controlled myself though, figuring that maybe it's not all his fault. Then I heard a stat that is mind-blowing. In Santana's last 5 starts, the Angels have gotten him zero runs. Yes, in every start b...

While the Angels are seeing red, Abreu searches for bluer skies
Posted on 5 May 2012 by Bill Mahoney.
So let me get this right, Bobby Abreu was upset at his lack of playing time with the Angels? Tired of hearing his complaints, the Angels finally let the guy go. So what does Abreu do? He signs with the Dodgers as a backup outfielder. Did they add a DH in the National League? And where will Abreu play, exactly. Can't see him replacing Ethier or Kemp, so that eliminates right and center. I gue...

Weaving a no hitter, Jered leaves the Twins in stitches
Posted on 3 May 2012 by Bill Mahoney.
Jered Weaver threw a no hitter at the Minnesota Twins. Jered Weaver is a local kid, who should be a poster child for guys who want to stay home and not chase the almighty dollar. Chris Ianetta was correct in saying that Weaver has the stuff to throw a no no every time he takes the mound. It was nice to see the huge smile on Ervin Santana's face as he watched his friend throw the Halos 2nd n...
