Church-For-Francoeur Strictly a Change-of-Scenery Deal
Posted on 16 Jul 2009 by Mark Reichman.
In a swap of underperforming head cases, the Mets have come out ahead. As the Braves and Mets prepare to face off in the first contest of the second half tonight, Ryan Church and Jeff Francouer will each be vying to show their new team got the better of the deal. Francouer, affectionately known as “Frenchy” has burned the Mets over the years with his bat and his rocket of a right ...

Answering the big question
Posted on 14 Jul 2009 by Ron Burr.
Someone asks ME the question that a lot of fans of the Orioles have been asking themselves… So I got a question from (hopefully) loyal reader bebe on my post the other day, and I started to respond on that page, but it got me to thinking (and those who know me know how dangerous THAT can be), and that led me to a brand new post. So without further ado, here is bebe's statement and ...

Looking towards the 2nd half
Posted on 10 Jul 2009 by Ron Burr.
A team with almost nowhere to go but up looks to keep itself from falling into the gutter again… The Orioles are 9 games under .500 with 3 games to go until the All Star Break. Adam “Donkey Kong” Jones is the lone All Star representative for the team (Nick Markakis had a shot at it, but he went into a tank usually reserved for people with the name “Mendoza” attac...

Halladay talk of the Rangers
Posted on 9 Jul 2009 by Justin Barracosa.
Blue Jays right-handed ace Roy Halladay was the No. 1 topic of discussion in the Rangers clubhouse before Wednesday's game with the Angels. It may be wishful thinking, but the Rangers were well aware that the Blue Jays are willing to listen to trade offers for Halladay, and the players are openly hoping somehow that he could land with their club, which went into Wednesday's game ti...

Rumour: Jays release BJ Ryan
Posted on 9 Jul 2009 by Justin Barracosa.
The Blue Jays have released B.J. Ryan, according to MLB.com's Jordan Bastian. The 33-year-old lefty signed a five year $47MM deal with the Jays before the 2006 season that was, at the time, the largest deal ever for a reliever. The contract expires after 2010, but the Jays still owe Ryan about $15MM. Ryan dominated in 2006, striking out more than four times as many as he walked and allo...

Ricciardi: Jays willing to trade Halladay
Posted on 6 Jul 2009 by Justin Barracosa.
On May 19, the Blue Jays were riding a hot streak, sitting in first place with a 27-15 record and looking very much like a World Series contender. Two months later, things look a bit different, with the Jays now in fourth place, eight games behind the Red Sox in the AL East. Had you entered the office of Toronto GM J.P. Ricciardi back then and asked him if he’d ever consider trading ace ...

Brew Crew midseason review
Posted on 5 Jul 2009 by Steve Drumwright.
Independence Day marked the halfway point of the season for the Brew Crew. So, what have we learned about a team tied for the NL Central lead? It has become painfully obvious in recent weeks that the Brewers need help in the starting rotation. But C.C. Sabathia isn't walking through the clubhouse doors this year and there doesn't appear to be an equivalent on the market, thanks to...

Hallladay returns but loses 4-1 to rays
Posted on 30 Jun 2009 by Justin Barracosa.
TORONTO — Toronto welcomed back ace starter Roy Halladay on Monday night but he couldn't keep the Blue Jays from losing their third in a row, 4-1 to the Tampa Bay Rays. Halladay (10-2) took the loss and the Rays' Jeff Niemann (7-4) held the Blue Jays to four hits and two walks until he was removed after Rod Barajas's run-scoring single with one out in the eighth. The game ...

Blue jays begin crucial set with Halladay
Posted on 29 Jun 2009 by Justin Barracosa.
The Toronto Blue Jays will have ace Roy Halladay back on the mound on Monday as they begin a big three-game series with division foe Tampa Bay. Halladay (10-1) makes his first start since injuring his groin June 12 against Florida. Until the outing against the Marlins, Halladay had gone at least seven innings in each of his starts this season, including complete games in his two starts leading...

Phillles pound jays

TORONTO— Charlie Manuel issued a challenge to his team Friday night. Play for each other, not for yourself. Play as a team, as a collective unit; not as a collection of talented individuals. “Understand that tough times do happen, but great teams get over that, great teams still believe in each other, they believe in themselves,” pitcher Cole Hamels said of Manuel's po...

A-Rod and Ramirez are great but what about without steroids
Posted on 28 Jun 2009 by Justin Barracosa.
It is widely known that performance-enhancing drugs help baseball players. Alex Rodriguez Alex Rodriguez used performance-enhancing drugs. Alex Rodriguez presumably no longer uses performance-enhancing drugs. As of Friday morning, Alex Rodriguez is batting .223. Hmm … I know. I know. Shut up. Typical media idiot. Go back to college. Enough with the steroid talk. I've got it. And yet...

Sizzling jays hope to make 4th straight
Posted on 25 Jun 2009 by Justin Barracosa.
With their offence returning to early season form, the Toronto Blue Jays simply refuse to fall out of the race in the American League East. The Blue Jays will look to win their fourth consecutive game while attempting to sweep the Cincinnati Reds on Thursday night (7 p.m. ET) at the Rogers Centre in Toronto. Tied with the New York Yankees for second in the AL East, five games behind Boston, the...
