The Talented Mr. Verlander
Posted on 13 May 2012 by Jeremy Klumpp.
Justin Verlander has a knack for picking the Tigers up after a loss. In the past two seasons the club is 19-3 when Verlander pitches following a loss, and he helped deliver a much needed win this afternoon, 3-1 over the A's in Oakland. Verlander (4-1) dominated the Oakland A's batters through seven innings allowing only one run on two hits, and striking out eight. He might have returned for the...

Braves finish road trip with sweep
Posted on 13 May 2012 by John Morgo.
When this road trip started, I thought it would be a victory if the Braves could finish at 5-4. But they went 7-2, and made an equally emphatic statement by going into St. Louis and sweeping the Cards. The sweep culminated in a 7-4 victory. Tommy Hanson did just enough for the win to go to 4-3. He was pulled after five innings, while Lance Lynn shouldered his first blemish of the season to fall...

Power Outage
Posted on 13 May 2012 by Christopher Rowe.
Not even in our worst nightmares could any Phillies fan have forseen such a fate. The last place Phillies (16-19) celebrating a series victory over the even-more-last-place San Diego Padres (12-23). If not for the efforts of Cole Hamels (5 hits, one ER in 7 IP) and a 3-2 victory, the Phillies might be trailing the NL East-leading Washington Nationals by more than six games. So, as of ...

All Quiet On The Offensive Front
Posted on 13 May 2012 by Jeremy Klumpp.
Tigers manager Jim Leyland's logic for starting six left-handed hitters against Oakland A's starter Brandon McCarthy was that lefties hit over 100 points better against him. That logic was tossed out the window as McCarthy struck-out 10 Tigers hitters, and led the A's to a 3-1 victory in Oakland last night. McCarthy (3-3) pitched seven stellar innings giving up no runs, and allowing only four h...

Cubs On a Two Game Skid With Loss to Brewers 8-2
Posted on 13 May 2012 by Brandyn Smith.
Recap: The Chicago Cubs were looking to avenge the tough loss they suffered Friday night against the Milwaukee Brewers. Quite the opposite happened for the Cubs as they drop game two of the series 8-2. Cubs starter Chris Volstead (0-5) took the mound looking for his first win in his last 18 starts. Volstad was pitching a solid game, and his first win of the season, although not guara...

It’s a re-run, as Wilson goes twice
Posted on 13 May 2012 by Bill Mahoney.
There didn't seem to be any love lost when C.J. Wilson signed with the Angels after spending 7 years in a Rangers uniform. The Rangers have moved on, having Yu Darvish doesn't hurt. Wilson, and his replacement faced off on Monday, with Darvish the ultimate winner. Well, Darvish did come back out to the mound after a 1:56 rain delay, while Wilson watched Jerome Williams get lit up by a free swi...

Rays holding steady despite injury to Longoria
Posted on 12 May 2012 by Zack Greenfield.
By Zack Greenfield After Evan Longoria went down for 4-8 weeks with an injury many people though that this would hurt the Rays to the point that they would start to drop off a bit. Usually, when a team loses their best player, you hope somebody could step up. That hasn't quite happened but the Rays continue to be somewhat consistent despite losing 2 out of 3 in the Bronx. Their starters have ...

Revenge Of The Inge
Posted on 12 May 2012 by Jeremy Klumpp.
Which of the following statements about Brandon Inge is true: A) He is the first player with four games of four or more RBI's in a five-game stretch since Lou Gehrig in 1931, B) He is only the second A's player to hit two grand slams in a three game span since Jimmie Foxx in 1932, C) He is batting .244 with 4 home runs, and 17 RBI's since he joined Oakland on April 30th, or D) All of the above....

Wild Game in Milwaukee as Cubs Fall 8-7 in Extra Innings
Posted on 12 May 2012 by Brandyn Smith.
Recap: Friday night was a battle of the bottom feeders of the National League Central, but that didn’t make the game any less enjoyable, unless you‘re a Cubs fan. In a crazy game, the Chicago Cubs were unable able to pull out the win against the Milwaukee Brewers, losing 8-7 in 13 innings. With the game tied at seven a piece in the bottom of the 13th inning, Cubs rookie reliever Lendy...

Beckett Shoots a Seven Over Par at TPC Fenway
Posted on 11 May 2012 by Jefferson Mills.
The worst kept secret in Boston sports these days is Josh Beckett’s love and affection for things other than baseball; golf, fried food and Beer. Unless he is trying to do his best Jon Daly impression, Beckett is failing miserably as an employee of the Boston Red Sox. The Spring, Texas native found himself in bunker, figuratively and literally speaking, earlier this week when reports surfaced...

Tiger Offense explodes, Bullpen Nearly Implodes
Posted on 11 May 2012 by Brett Decker.
The Detroit Tigers have begun to follow a common trend for them which is a few games of very poor offense followed by a single game of an offensive explosion. One of those outpourings of offense happened last night against Bartolo Colon and most of the Oakland bullpen. The Tiger's scored 10 runs on 17 hits and a walk and used that offense to survive another horrible outing by the bullpen, more ...
